Allegedly, some Chinese companies produce fake rice by mixing in plastic. This fake rice is then "massively sold" on the Chinese market.

Fake rice sold in Taiyuan, Shaanxi is made from a mixture of potatoes, sweet potatoes, and plastic, according to the report.

Which, of course, is why we have regulations here in the US. Granted, we have too many of them at this time, but we will always need a few, in order to keep people honest. After all, human nature is what it is.

Article is here.

The market will take care of it...especially the people who die from eating it.

I don't think it would kill me. In fact, the potatoes and sweet potatoes in the product would provide the propellant for the plastic bullets I would be shooting out of my ass, at whoever sold me this crap.

Ha!

I like sweet potatoes (and mashed potatoes....drooling), but plastic... You're right, at least I could produce potentially dangerous amunition against the abusers!

Hysterical.

I wanted to post something filled with appropriate outrage, but was laughing too hard to muster up the words. You guys just crack me up! All I can say is, food and food additives imported from China = bad. USA food regulations = annoying but good.

Plastic rice. Who the hell would have ever thunk it??

Plastic children?

What are you talking about? Do you understand the nature of the "market" in China? Also, Shaanxi province, (though actually, I think Taiyuan is in Shanxi -- I need to check), -- regardless -- is a very poor area. If this is cheaper than real rice, that is what people will buy.

EDIT: It is, in fact, in Shanxi 山西 rather than Shaanxi 陜西 (same pronunciation with different tones).

So what? The west makes fake coffee "cream" from "edible petroleum products".

Are we starting to see the ramping up of US propaganda against China now? I'll just bet we are. America better be careful about biting the hand that owns it. <LMAO>

Would this be a solution to the obesity problem in America?

Give me one of those plastic T-bone steaks.

If it tastes good go for it. It's probably as good as the junk we can get in fast food places.

To be honest, I think even Taco Bell could learn a little something about fake products from the Chinese. LOL.

It has been at least three generations since Americans were brought up on natural food diets. "Instant" coffee? "TV" dinners? "Sugarless" soft drinks in which the formaldehyde component of aspertame turns back into formaldehyde inside the human body at 80 degrees Fahrenheit or thereabouts? Preservatives whose names we can't even pronounce? And on and on? What is "Chinese" about adulterated food?
