Jane Harman of California is quitting Congress before her term expires.

Where, I wonder, are all the liberal weenies that whined like little babies about Palin quitting as governor of Alaska before her term expired? They should be furious now too.

They did the same thing, both went into private life, other positions, etc.

Could the utter lack of outrage here be because she has a D after her name, not an R?
I am just amazed how desperate Conservs are to find equivalence for each shortcoming within their own stable. I am more amazed at the stretches that are necessary to even present a case of equivalence.

Sorry, but I don't think Harman has the stature of Palin, nor did she quit before fulfilling even the initial term for which she was elected. No one is going to make the same fuss about a congressman quiting their job as they are about a VP candidate that likely quit only for personal gain. While I agree she shoud fulfill the entire term for which she was elected, this is not "equivalence"....

Short answer: there is no outrage about Harman because there is zero passion about Harman (pssst.... no one know who she is, thus no one cares).

She makes a salary from whatever funding the organization receives. Her job isn't to keep people buying books or t-shirts. Your comparison is a total failure. Not a surprise.
the only failure is yours.... both left office for PAID private positions. What the position is, is immaterial... as are you.

    Why Palin Quit - WSJ.com
Contrary to most reports, her decision had been in the works for months, accelerating recently as it became clear that controversies and endless ethics investigations were threatening to overshadow her legislative agenda. "Attacks inside Alaska and largely invisible to the national media had paralyzed her administration," someone close to the governor told me. "She was fully aware she would be branded a 'quitter.' She did not want to disappoint her constituents, but she was no longer able to do the job she had been elected to do. Essentially, the taxpayers were paying for Sarah to go to work every day and defend herself."This situation developed because Alaska's transparency laws allow anyone to file Freedom of Information Act requests. While normally useful, in the hands of political opponents FOIA requests can become a means to bog down a target in a bureaucratic quagmire, thanks to the need to comb through records and respond by a strict timetable. Similarly, ethics investigations are easily triggered and can drag on for months even if the initial complaint is flimsy. Since Ms. Palin returned to Alaska after the 2008 campaign, some 150 FOIA requests have been filed and her office has been targeted for investigation by everyone from the FBI to the Alaska legislature. Most have centered on Ms. Palin's use of government resources, and to date have turned up little save for a few state trips that she agreed to reimburse the state for because her children had accompanied her. In the process, though, she accumulated $500,000 in legal fees in just the last nine months, and knew the bill would grow ever larger in the future.
how dare you bring facts and reality into the discussion.

Her district office used to be in the building where I rent space. Her name is still in the street sign.

So what you're saying is that somebody's OPINION PIECE gave you the TRUTH on something? Are you really that incapable of thinking for yourself?
Ethics complaints filed against Palin: Former Gov. Sarah Palin | adn.com
most of these were from private citizens... and were dismissed.
Oh wait... here's a good one...
filed under the name of Edna Birch, a busybody character on the British soap opera Emmerdale.

What part of the word 'longtime' do you not understand? Sarah Palin didn't finish one term as Governor.

The Republican party in Alaska was split and feuding, many were against her were Republicans - the Lisa Mukowski wing.

Like I said, "that's different". It's always different with the Libbos.

Great. I wish more long time Congressmen from all parties would follow suit.

She shouldn't have quit, plain and simple. The only reason I would accept for leaving office early is family troubles or a promotion to a different office. I don't think Palin quitting means she's a terrible person, just like I don't think that of Harman. With that said, I wouldn't vote for either of them for president or any other term of office. They've shown a lack of interest to their job and I don't respect that.

BTW, I'd suggest not starting a thread by calling people "liberal weenies". Makes you look like a petty little child. Maybe that's how you want to come off to people, in that case you're doing a great job.
