'Al-Qaida on brink of using nuclear bomb'

Even if they somehow did develop one, good luck getting it across the globe, through customs and into the streets of London or New York.

Too damn complicated to make in a cave somewhere in Waziristan or a garage in London, too damn expensive to build and too damn hard to launch it off the ground.

Cant see this happening unless a terrorist state itself with considerable resources and scientific knowledge where to develop one, like Iran.

Apart from the Ayatollah's, wouldn't worry about anybody else using one...for now.

Technology is like water leaking from an old bucket. It can't be prevented. History proves that over and over again.

I have heard his speeches and I really don't care to read his book.

Perhaps you could do your own study into the matter then. This way you wouldn't need a politician's half truths or media sensationalisms to deliver you stories.

I think my fellow liberals need to recognize that the threats described in this and similar articles are very real and are of enormous concern to law enforcement authorities. I think transportation across international borders is a non-issue, all of the materials of a dirty bomb are available domestically in most countries. The knowledge is not common but is widely available to people who know where to look. Ultimately this is a question of wherewithal and execution, both of which Al Qaeda has demonstrably shown throughout this period. These are not new threats.

What is new in this article, then? The State Department cables released by WikiLeaks document the efforts by our diplomats to coordinate ongoing efforts to identify and foil these plots. Without WikiLeaks there is no story.

Again, together, now, thank you, WikiLeaks.

Most people in this country want the borders secured.

Yeah, but since when has today's Washington cared about what most people in this country want? We are stuck between a nation of people who seek their wisdom from television and a capitol full of suits who concern themselves more with their out of touch political clubs.

You get your truth from Bush's Book? That explains alot.

I don't read books about/by politicians. They are all decrepit. Once again, you show how quick you mistake yourself into a sense of wisdom.

Our trillion dollar military should be used to defend this country instead of used to spread our influence, nation building, regime changes, and policing the world.
this is exactly why you do not understand why others believe removing Saddam was a good thing. You don't understand that the best way to protect our country isn't by building tall walls around it, but by making friends and removing enemies from outside of it. By squashing tyrants and radicals in their own backyard rather than our own. By promoting freedom of thought, religion, and government.

But that is idealistic. Ideals only are realized in fantasy worlds. The reality is that we are human. We make mistakes. We must make compromises.

Which cost the US more?

Yeah, what did Clinton do to bring Saddam to compliance? And why did Sandy Burgler go to the National Archives, steal documents by stuffing them down his pants and then destroy them?

Couldn't be because the Clintons were ... ahh... derelict of duty could it?

What if Clinton pressed hard for Saddam to disarm... instead of letting the UN run the show and create a monumental ode de corruption known as The Oil For Food Program. The UN has blood on its hands.

Bush did the right thing under the circumstances, as all our allies and even the Democrats sang the song of Saddam having WMD. He used them after all, and he had a hatred for America that is known to all except the deaf, dumb and blind.

.

Ahh... another open minded one.

.

Did you read Bush's book?
Having an open mind allows one to chose what they read. I lived Bush's presidency so I really don't need his opinion of how he handled it.

Saddam was disarmed when we invaded. All his WMDs had been destroyed. Looks like Clinton really did the job after all. Bush just didn't get the memo.

Didn't wikileaks release the emails from East Anglia University and Penn State University that discredited Global Warming?

Thank you wikileaks.

Borders can be secured if people are sufficiently ruthless. The Texas Rangers prevented large scale Mexican immigration into Texas during much of the 19th century.

Desperation and radicalization are the precursors to ruthlessness.

I'm glad people like you who promote such barbaric solutions do not have the support to packpeddle our country away from the human rights we worked so hard to implement.

Even if we executed every illegal immigrant, it would not deter a determined foe like that of Al-Queda from penetrating our borders.

Who's wanting to execute every illegal immigrant? And Al Qaeda crossing the border is called "target practice".

You're welcome. You shouldn't worry about Al Qaeda. You shouldn't worry about illegal aliens. You should worry about American citizens who see you as a mortal threat.

You shouldn't worry about Al Qaeda.

I don't anymore than I worry about thieves stealing my money from the bank. There are people whose job is protect the money in the bank and people whose job is to protect our country from terrorists like AQ. I let them do the worrying.

You shouldn't worry about illegal aliens.
I live in arizona and I don't worry. Most illegals are fine people looking for jobs and don't want any trouble. Its the drug runners and coyotes you have to avoid if you live near the border.

You should worry about American citizens who see you as a mortal threat.
Like who? There are crackpots in every society. Luckily there are few extremists in the US willing to kill other americans who don't share their ideals.

Bush = bad
Obama = good

Like me. Violence isn't what I'm talking about. Violence is counterproductive. Hollowing out the institutions that serve the left is what I'm referring to. Destroying any possibility of unity has the effect of disempowering you.

The OP is just alarmist stuff that everyone already knows. Al Qaeda wants to blow people up, and adding radioactive material to the blast would be a plus. Duh. That's hardly news. Running around wringing our hands and crying, "Oh, woe" isn't going to help anything. Our intelligence (and I use the word lightly) agencies are doing what can be done to keep track of radioactive materials and identify threats. We've got enough airport security that passengers can't get by without exposing their maxi-pads and genital piercings (but millions of massive cargo containers hit our ports every year without so much as a look-see). Thanks to Wikileaks, the entire world knows where we're looking, how we're looking and what we're looking for.

Al Qaeda will hit us again. No doubt in my mind. But I'm not going to spend my life locked in the basement, quivering in fear. They're going to try to do what they're going to try to do, and we're going to try to stop them. If we fail, we'll grieve, bury the dead, clean up the mess and go on. Life is full of danger. That doesn't keep us from living.

Edited for correction.

Support our troops.

The cockroaches are coming out of the cracks again.

so the #1 threat to america isn't gay mexican muslim bears anymore?

May Al Quada burn in hell, God/Allah does not like them.
