So you want us to feel sorry for people that settled in an area where there was no lumber to build houses and there is nothing between them and the north pole but barbed wore fence?

Were they forced to settle out there like the Indians that were marched to other lands?

My cats are content to stay in. They are sissies.

My well has been froze up since Monday. Looks like it will be that way for a while. Luckily I keep big jugs of water filled for emergencies, so have plenty for animals and my coffee.
I've been sick for over a week now and hopefully won't have to try to go anywhere in this weather. Thank goodness I still have electricity and plenty of propane. It could be worse....I could still live in Ohio.
    Shorty's Back!!!!

It's supposed to be below zero here tonight, so after seven hours of meoooooowing in the tree, Tom got a trimmer pole and put a skylight pole on the end of it with duct tape. Then we went out and harrassed Shorty until he finally came down. OMG!!! Then, he balanced on fences trying to get home.

Shorrrrty!!!!! Meooooow!!!!! Shorrrrrty Paaants!!!!! Meooooooooow!!!! For 45 minutes until he balanced his way home. Walked out of Tom's boots, ended up barefoot...can anyone spell newmonia?? ;-) ;-) I'm sooooo happy!!!

Barb, I hope you feel better soon. This weather, though, was a good excuse to stay in. So you certainly know you didn't miss much.

Shorty is grounded. USE THE LITTER BOX!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is Lakeshore Drive in Chicago:

Hundreds of people have been trapped inside their cars, as the snow has attempted to bury them alive. Thanks to rescue operations, there have been no deaths yet, but there are still hundreds of abandoned cars littering the street, and there is going to be no traffic at all in Chicago for the foreseeable future.

Before this storm is over, there will be plenty of deaths, from Chicago, all the way South to Georgia. This is going to be one for the history books.

Here in Houston, we are bracing for a blizzard tomorrow, with a record snowfall of up to 5 inches, not including a lot of freezing rain and sleet, which will hit first. Both Bush and Hobby Airports are closing tomorrow, and rolling blackouts are going to continue over all of Texas. I will not be out on the road at all, as people here have no idea of how to drive in the snow, or on ice. There will be plenty of accidents here, but we will be in nowhere near as bad of shape as those who live north of here. Dallas is going to get it's ass kicked.

"....Popular legend, albeit untrue (at least according to the official trial record), claims that District Court Judge Melville Gerry sentenced Packer by saying, 'Stand up, Alferd Packer, you voracious, man-eating, son-of-a-bitch. There were seven Democrats in Hinsdale County, and you ate five of them......"

We'll have to bring technology to bear on this problem.

I found this amusing. Perry has to resort to foreign aid for Texas. . .from Mexico no less. . .LOL. . .

Mexico will provide electricity to Texas to help the U.S. state weather an ice storm that has forced rolling blackouts.

I'd be heading for the motor home in the picture.

People that get stranded on roads with plenty of warning with no good reason to be out there are deserving of the Darwin Award. It's too bad others have to risk their lives to safe them.

Granted some or many of these people may have been coming home from work but they should have known Lake Shore Drive was not a good route that open to the wind (on the lake) and furthermore I had heard Lake Shore drive was being inundated by Lake Michigan water that was freezing to the roadway.

Because the Fed keeps blocking Texas from buidling more power plants.
