Unemployment claims rise; durable orders drop

Unemployment claims rise; durable orders drop

    Updated 1d 8h ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits rose sharply last week, but the figures were largely distorted by rare snowstorms that swept through the Southeast.

A second report Thursday said factories saw a disappointing drop in demand for their products in December, reflecting weakness for commercial and military aircraft.

The Commerce Department said orders for long-lasting durable goods dropped 2.5% last month after an even larger 3.1% decline in November. The weakness in both months reflected big declines in demand for aircraft.

Excluding the transportation sector, orders rose 0.5% in December following a 4.5% jump in orders outside of transportation in November.

In the unemployment report, the Labor Department said new applications for benefits surged last week by a seasonally adjusted 51,000 to 454,000, highest level since late October.

I for one can only hope Congressional Democrats join the Republican in using proven methods in getting this economy moving again. My county is at 14.2% unemployment and California overall is at 12.3%, but take a minute and look at some of the other counties...........

I recommend doing what Reagan did, cut taxes and increase spending.

    Oh wait...

This shows that confidence in Obama and his plans is not there.

For these numbers to improve the People need to feel like we are on the right traack with a leader who is making the right decisions and knows what he or she is doing.

Obama has a piss poor track record and surrounded himself with incompetent radicals rather than people with experience in business management who know how do get results.

Knowing how to protest or follow some Socialist/Marxist/Communist, outline is no way to plan for future growth of an economy since history shows they always fail in the end.

    And once again.

YOU appear to lack even the most basic knowledge of the underlined to know that what Obama is doing is not socialist/Marxist/Communist.

In fact if you had even the most basic understanding of these concepts you would know that the three are in fact incompatable.

And what proven methods are those, exactly?

Are you familiar with Reagan's Economic Recovery Tax Act?
