WASHINGTON — Rabbis published an open letter on Thursday urging Fox News to reprimand conservative anchor Glenn Beck for what they called repeated use of inappropriate references about Nazism and the Holocaust.
A group of some 400 Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist and Orthodox rabbis published the demands in a full page ad in The Wall Street Journal.
The open letter to Fox News Channel chairman Rupert Murdoch demanded an apology for Beck's "unacceptable attacks" against billionaire financier George Soros, a liberal philanthropist who also is Jewish.
The rabbis were also critical of Fox News chief Roger Ailes, who has defended Beck's use of Nazi references and called NPR radio executives "Nazis" for firing Fox commentator and former radioman Juan Williams.
Ailes has also dismissed Beck's Jewish critics as "left-wing rabbis".

That last sentence is the funniest part of this whole thing. This is a group of Conservative rabbis, some who are even ultraconservative. What is the response of FOX News to the letter? To call them Leftists and Liberals. This, my friends, is the mindset of FOX News, in a nutshell. Whoever disagrees with them is automatically Liberal.

Finally, the issue here is not about George Soros, who happens to be a Liberal. The issue is this: As we celebrate Holocaust Remembrance Day, which just passed, we need to make damn sure that the remembrance is about the Holocaust. And propagandists masquerading as a legitimate news organization belittles what happened in Germany during that hellish period, when they use it to attack those who disagree with their points of view.

I remember when Bush was in office, and Liberals were calling him a Nazi. FOX News defended Bush, and called those Liberals reprehensible in their portrayal of him as one. Now that a Liberal is in their gun sights, FOX News has absolutely no problem doing the exact same thing the Liberals did, and that FOX News called shameful - Calling opponents Nazis.

So, to FOX News, I say this: By your own standards, you are now Liberals. Now that you know this, are you guys going to go out and commit suicide?

Great post, I've taken the liberty to highlight a few words:

Great post, I've taken the liberty to highlight a few words:

The word "conservative" as applied to Judaism actually refers to a moderate strain of Judaism. If you are looking for the conservative in a political sense, you need to look towards Orthodox, instead.

This is more BS from "Jewish Funds for Justice", a George Soros funded liberal/socialist group of community organizers that promote social justice... In other words, they're the Jewish branch of ACORN, Media Matters and the CAP all rolled into one.

Funny how the article never once mentions the that those "Rabbi's" are from JFSJ?

Oh wait... It was written by AFP... Never mind.

The only reference I saw was Beck's claim that Soros helped the Nazis send Jews to death camps. Seems to me that the real question is whether this was true or not. If true, then the Rabbis should be criticizing Soros instead of Beck. Some actual quotes from Beck calling Soros a Nazi would have been nice. The article has none. Since I've never watched Beck's show, I can't confirm or deny that he called him a Nazi, so quotes would have been nice.

I wonder if these Rabbis also sent a letter of protest to Representative Cohen of Memphis for calling Republicans Nazis.

Cohen was asked to apologize by different organizations. He refused.

Groups call out congressman on Holocaust imagery | JTA - Jewish & Israel News

"The National Jewish Democratic Council criticizes the comments of Representative Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.), which compared Republicans to the Nazis and unfortunately reintroduced the Holocaust into the health care debate," said the umbrella body for Jewish Democrats. "As we have said repeatedly, invoking the Holocaust to make a political point is never acceptable -- on either side of the aisle."
J Street, a liberal pro-Israel group that endorsed Cohen in the last election, also called on Cohen to apologize..
Cohen told the Washington Post that he would not apologize for his statement, which he said was appropriate to the situation.

First, here are the transcripts from a 60 Minutes interview with Soros:

60 Minutes/George Soros said:
KROFT: Went out, in fact, and helped in the confiscation of property from the Jews.

Mr. SOROS: Yes. That's right. Yes.

KROFT: I mean, that's--that sounds like an experience that would send lots of people to the psychiatric couch for many, many years. Was it difficult?

Mr. SOROS: Not--not at all. Not at all. Maybe as a child you don't--you don't see the connection. But it was--it created no--no problem at all.

KROFT: No feeling of guilt?

Mr. SOROS: No.

Now, this is the transcripts of what Beck said about Soros on his show, which includes a clip of Soros from an interview:

BECK: I am not blaming a fourteen year old or his parents for trying to keep him alive, trying to keep a family alive. I don't think anyone can understand what it must have been like to be Jewish in that scenario. Can you?

Especially fourteen. I don't want to question the fourteen year old. I would, however, like to question the eighty year old man, who has never once said he regretted it - but more than that, he views it as the happiest year of his life.

Again, not my words, his words. Listen.

SOROS [clip]: It was actually, probably the happiest year of my life - that year of German occupation. For me it was a very positive experience. It's a strange thing, because you see incredible suffering all around you, and in fact, you are in considerable danger yourself. But you're fourteen years old and you don't believe that it can actually touch you. You have a belief in yourself, you have a belief in your father. It's a very happy making exhilarating experience.

BECK: I don't think I've ever heard anybody describe the Holocaust years like that. Maybe he's the most healthy man you've ever met. Maybe somehow or another, he just got through it.

I'm sorry, but there is only one reason why any Jewish organization would defend George Soros and condemn Glenn Beck... Because they are actually a political organization that happens to be funded by George Soros.

Is this the same group that criticized Beck and Fox News ?

what an evil, anti-semitic bastard. How DARE Beck actually understand that as a 14 yr old boy, Soros was simply trying to survive... how DARE Beck not hold the 14 yr old boy responsible! How DARE Beck wonder why the 80 yr. old man doesn't express any negative feelings about helping the Nazi's during the Holocaust!

(sarcasm)

I await the spin machine.

Want proof this so called "Jewish" group is just a George Soros political organization?

I just did a search on the Jewish Funds for Justice website to see their reaction to Representative Steve Cohen using Holocaust terminology to attack Republicans on the floor of the house... Check out the results:

Search | Jewish Funds for Justice | JFSJ

Nothing... Nada... Zero... Zip...

Ladies and Gentlemen, I rest my case.

Liberals whining how some talk show host said something they did not like. Is this really news? I know lets post something the NAACP said about Rush Limbaugh or something GLAAD said about Michael Savage.

Amazing how some of you people claim to hate these conservative or alleged conservative talk show hosts and don't watch their shows. But for some reason you people insist on posting what amounts to Media Matters garbage that is basically free publicity and advertisement for these guys you people claim to dislike. Every time a lib or even an alleged conservative bashes one of these talk show hosts or even Fox News you make Fox News and these talk show hosts appear that much more appealing to people who are the political opposite of you.

It shows Soros here saying that was the happiest time of his life. Beck is not demonizing the 14 yr old boy, but trying to understand the 80 yr old man who has no regrets.
I can't fathom why any Jewish org would side with Soros over Beck.

That would explain why Dan liked the article.

You missed this part of the interview:

KROFT: For example that, 'I'm Jewish and here I am, watching these people go. I could just as easily be there. I should be there.' None of that?

Mr. SOROS: Well, of course I c--I could be on the other side or I could be the one from whom the thing is being taken away. But there was no sense that I shouldn't be there, because that was--well, actually, in a funny way, it's just like in markets--that if I weren't there--of course, I wasn't doing it, but somebody else would--would--would be taking it away anyhow. And it was the--whether I was there or not, I was only a spectator, the property was being taken away. So the--I had no role in taking away that property. So I had no sense of guilt.

this doesn't bother you a bit, does it. Not overly surprising, since your masters at MMA didn't seem to have a problem with it.

So.......does this now mean jews own the terms, nazi and holocaust, and only jews can now use those terms?

I am Jewish, though an Atheist. Most of my posts here have been in the Middle East section and on Israel and antisemitism.
The Israel debate, 'antizionsim' is sometimes antisemitism, though Certainly Not all or even most criticism of Israel antisemitic.
I have 10 years of such posting from IsraelForum to at least 50 others.
I am Pro-Israel as anyone in the section knows and am all over antisemites.

I don't believe Glenn Beck is an antisemite.
He hates Soros beacuse he is the biggest financier of the not-just-liberal, but left, Moveon, etc, etc.
He has perhaps overdone it a bit with his imagery and allegory as Glenn Beck has this simplistic Biblically good-and-evil worldview.

Antisemites don't quote Glenn Beck. Much more likely they quote Jewish antisemites like Norman Finkelstein. ('The Holocaust Industry'), and many others of his ilk.
In fact, Most antisemitism is from the Left these days.. having replaced the Old/Paleo Right in 'prominence' in this department many years ago.

How about some Rabbis sign a petition on some true antisemites, instead of going after a target on what is probably Politcal grounds.
Their current petition no doubt helped along by a few of Soros' friends in the community. Ergo, WSJ.

Sorry, but first of all the article clearly states that the group included Reform and Reconstructionist rabbies, both of which are more liberal variants of Judaism. Second, all across the various sects economic policy could be described as more liberal.
