I think Rahm will easily be taken back into the fold for Obama's re-election plans and will join the rest of his merry band of men already leaving the WH to work on the 2012 re-election bid. The 10 mil? What 10 mil?

No skin off my back. If you don't follow the rules then you shouldn't be allowed to run.
 
It was the only decision they could have made. If they allowed Rahm to run for Mayor, based only on the fact that he owned property and "intended" to return, it would have made a mess of thousands of other individual's that lost their jobs with the city due to not living in Chicago. Many of those people lived in the suburbs, but owned property in the city that they rented out.

Rahm Emanuel should not appear on the Feb. 22 mayoral ballot, according to a ruling issued by a state appellate court today.

In a 2-1 ruling, the appellate panel said Emanuel does not meet the residency requirement of having lived in Chicago for a year prior to the election. The judges reversed a decision by the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners, which had unanimously agreed that Emanuel was eligible to run for mayor. (Read the ruling here.)

"We conclude that the candidate neither meets the Municipal Code's requirement that he have 'resided in' Chicago for the year preceding the election in which he seeks to participate nor falls within any exception to the requirement," the majority judges wrote.

"Accordingly, we disagree with the Board's conclusion that he is eligible to run for the office of Mayor of the City of Chicago. We reverse the circuit court's judgment confirming the Board's decision, set aside the Board's decision and ... order that the candidate's name be excluded (or, if necessary, removed) from the ballot."

I find it amazing it took this long.

It's not as if he was a third rate clerk in some obscure office... everyone in the damn country with half a brain knew where he was residing, yet the fool thought he could still pull this BS?

It takes a huge dose of arrogance to try and pull this stunt. What type of fool tries to run for office when he doesn't qualify under the basic requirements and everyone knows it? ... never mind...

Yeah I'm pretty surprised he went on this long, it occurred to me that he might not meet requirements but I just assumed he'd addressed any issues since he wanted to run there.

Wow, this was...unexpected. Rahm Emanuel's chances of winning the election are still hovering around 55% on InTrade as of now, indicating that this may not be the end of the fight. Those odds are, however, about 40% lower than they were yesterday.

It will go to the State Supreme court... who will uphold the decision. Rahm will not have time to get it to the US Supreme Court.
