Chinese Pianist Plays Propaganda Tune at White House

Do you 'get' things? What does that have to do with anything.

Just addressing your point that "China has the internet". Not so much, at least not as you and I know it.

Who was the last president to honor a communist dictator with a state dinner in the White House?

It's sad that you lack even the most basic knowledge of the Chinese political system to know that Hu Jintao is not a dictator.

In fact he will be relieved of Presidency next year...

Oh, and just for fun, here's Bush dressing like a commie... :2razz:

Seemed about the same when I used it there. No yahoo news though. But yeah pretty much the same. My point was they may have edgy funnies, and people like you who probably don't get them.

He is not, but for all intents and purposes, he is. The system is. C'mon.

Please tell us about the great democratic aspects and opportunities of communism. I can't wait.

Who said anything about democracy...

But Hu Jintao doesn't have the same power as a dictator persay.

Yes he has got alot of power, but he's not as powerful a head of state as say Kim Jong Il or Stalin...

China is communist in name only...

You're really upset Obama had Hu Jintao at the white house...

Yet every President since Nixon has had the Chinese head of state at the white house.

At the White House, yes. You have to deal with world as it is, of course.

But you don't honor them as Obama did. You don't essentially condone their ways. You use diplomacy, but you do not cowher. Obama cowhered.

Of course, they own a significant portion of our financial future in their hands. It's what happens when you continuously spend money you don't have.

Have fun in your whacky world Erod...

I bet it's fun.

You, too.

Tell Hu, Fidel, and Vlad I said "hi" and to "kiss my ass".

No, he is not for any intents or purposes a dictator.

Communism is actually very democratic as it advocates democracy in all things, but no government is actually communist in anything but future aspirations. Now, I would say that there are a number of democratic aspects to China's system. Your problem is you think democracy can only take one form and since China does not have that form you believe it cannot be democratic. If you want me to elaborate on the democratic aspects of China's political system then I would be happy to do so.

The chinese don't take epoch times seriously.

No one should take the Epoch Times seriously.

I understand it well enough.

Operate globally as a capitalist company. Operate internally as a communist country with very limited individual rights. Intentionally hold the value of your currency down so other countries can't compete, while your citizens have no legal recourse against their labor situation.

The Chinese government stays wealthy beyond imagination, using their populace as virtual slaves, with no one to answer to.

If you knew what mercantilism was, you'd know it wouldn't mean becoming one of the largest trading nations in the world. So by "neo-mercantilism" I'm guessing you mean the exact opposite of mercantilism.

Then you don't know what mercantilism means, do you??? It was all about establishing TRADE SURPLUSES to acquire gold and silver from other states...

Huh??/ That was at the APEC meeting... and it wasn't a state dinner...

How many of them were "state dinners"? Heck, Nixon didn't even officially recognize Mao's government at the time...

No, he is not for any intents or purposes a dictator.

The CCP has a dictatorial system in China, and Hu is the head of it.

No one should take the Epoch Times seriously.

Because you would rather take the China Daily and the People's Daily seriously, right???

I take them more seriously than the Epoch Times, though that isn't saying much.

It's a close to pissing in his face as you can get, in the people's house to boot.

Most Americans would be pissed and if they followed his music Lang Lang's career here would tank like the Dixie Chicks, but the crowd he appeals to will probably be more vigorous in his support than ever.

.

Which is absolutely fair, is it not? Why should a Chinese person refrain from glorifying his motherland over the US?

Which is absolutely fair, is it not? Why should a Chinese person refrain from glorifying his motherland over the US?

Would it then be fair game for all?

Oh... good grief....

Do you take them seriously? If so that's yet another reason why no one should care what you have to say about China.

Would it then be fair game for all?

If I understand your question correctly, I don't see why not. The idea that a Chinese person ought to suppress his patriotism is as ridiculous as the idea that a Frenchman, Russian or American ought suppress their own patriotism.

Now, there is something to be said about respect, that's certain -- it wouldn't do for a Chinese person to walk the streets of Chicago screaming his superiority over the Americans, just as it is obnoxious for Americans to come to Venice on holiday and chant USA-USA-USA.

But I think this entire episode is being blown out of proportion, and taken in the wrong light. The Chinese pianist wasn't playing that tune to incite the Americans (that's a rather egocentric thing to think), but rather because it IS patriotic for him. The Chinese DID beat the US in the Korean War, and that's a point of national pride. It's like a Brit taking offense at the American anthem, for being all about how the British bombed the ****e out of Boston but the Americans didn't give up that day. It's not about the British anymore, it's about the Americans, and it's a point of national pride. Same thing with this tune he played.
