Poor choice of a song given the context.
Poor choice of a song given the context.
Of all the songs, the choice for that one seems ---- suspect at best. A subtle flash of the Chinese ass at the White House dinner.
“I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on what’s being proposed here, he’d agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute.” - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.
Dixieland has negative connotations. But when the Boston Pops performs it on the 4th of July do we think they're playing Confederate propaganda?
Great film scores can transcend their original intent and become favorites for performers.
"I thought to play 'My Motherland' because I think playing the tune at the White House banquet can help us, as Chinese people, feel extremely proud of ourselves and express our feelings through the song. I think it's especially good. Also, I like the tune in and of itself, every time I hear it I feel extremely moved," Lang Lang said in the interview.
Song about killing American Jackals, played at the whitehouse for china pride.... hmmmm.... disrespectful?
Matthew 10:34Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Pianist Thumbed Nose at White House with Propaganda Song - World Watch - CBS NewsThe Chinese pianist Lang Lang performed a widely-known anti-American propaganda song during his performance at the White House's state dinner for Chinese President Hu Jintao last week, the Chinese-American newspaper Epoch Times reports.
The song, "My Motherland," is the theme to film "Battle on Shangganling Mountain," about a communist "People's Volunteer Army" defeating U.S. military "jackals" in a Korean War battle.
"The movie and the tune are widely known among Chinese, and the song has been a leading piece of anti-American propaganda by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for decades," the Epoch Times reports." CCP propaganda has always referred to the Korean War as the 'movement to resist America and help [North] Korea.' The message of the propaganda is that the United States is an enemy--in fighting in the Korean War the United States' real goal was said to be to invade and conquer China. The victory at Triangle Hill was promoted as a victory over imperialists."
the people's volunteer army---LOL!
and just look at all the "help" the north koreans have received...
pathetic, mr president
Very clever of the pianist. Slip the knives in when we aren't looking. Make us look the fools.
But what was President Obama supposed to do about it? What did you expect? There's no reason to expect the President to be familiar with Chinese propaganda; if he was, that'd just be another reason for you to call him a Socialist. And even if he'd recognized the piece, there would have been no graceful way to stop the pianist; any reaction at all would have been graceless and classless and would have shown our country in an even poorer light.
Sometimes you have to let the little people take their shots and satisfy yourself with being the better man.
