GOP brand pronounced dead in deep-blue California

OK, this makes sense. Let's do it, but YOU be the one to go on welfare and I will be the one to call you a lazy Liberal.

I wasn't thinking about welfare. I was thinking about all the entitlement services for the elderly, like ParaTransit where the County comes to pick you up and drive you around.

I could hop in the car, but that wouldn't impose a burden on the govt. I want them to drive me everywhere. And I want to serve on Senior Commissions so I can lobby local govt. for more spending on people like me who don't need it. Get it?

I respectfully differ on the best thing for old conservatives to do. Young conservatives should save themselves and their families by leaving. Old conservatives should stay and gum up the works. Demand entitlements. Put stress on the state's budget. Demoralize young leftists with the tax burden they bear in order to give us extra pocket money for greens fees. **** them up every way possible.

Good call...let the old guys create a diversion to give the younger kids a better chance of escape!

Californians saw the debacle that was Gray Davis and a 40 billion dollar budget hole, recalled him, then elected a guy to put them in a 50 billion dollar hole. Someone MIGHT want to examine those expendatures.

ahnold tried, got shellacked, gave up

in the special election of may, 05, the gubernator sponsored four extremely sensible, conservative propositions, trying to go over sacto's head to the voters

led by the nurses, CA kicked ahnold's ass

spending caps, teacher tenure reform, parental notification before teenage abortions, union dues used for political purposes only with express permission of members...

the gub went 0 for 4

since then, he's been largely irrelevant

my state is bankrupt, has been for the better part of a decade

worse, CA is hopeless, paralyzed by despair, no one looks to sacto for solutions

not anymore, not for a long time

the special of 09 registered complete disgust with the ruling class out here on the left coast

props 1a thru 1e---increased contributions to rainy day fund, increased funding for primary ed, borrowing from future lottery proceeds, reallocation of cig tax, one time adjustment of state income tax---backed by the establishment entire, from ahnold to bustamente to the cta and seiu to the msm's...

they fell by margins of 30, 24, 28, 32 and 32, respectively

my state has given up, sacto's assemblies have given up

as for moonbeam:

Jerry Brown takes a big risk - Andy Barr - POLITICO.com

CA was the only state in the union effectively to resist the wave that made tsunami tuesday, it is still strangely blue

but change is worldwide, liberal methodologies from greece to los angeles have flatly failed

cuz if the eu can turn...

austerity is the new byword

and if moonbeam can't pull off his gambit, a very far reach...

he's depending on a special election this june to get his taxes

watch and see

on another note, redistricting, more crudely called gerrymandering, has been taken away from the legislature and given instead to an "independent" panel

lines could not be drawn more advantageously for dems out here than they've been for a generation

the new boundaries can do nothing but help the minority CA

it's pensions and medicaid that are killing us

CA declares fiscal emegency

ie, more failed liberal experiments

stay up

Don't worry. All you have to do is raise, smoke, and tax marijuana. That'll save the day.

But within that sea of blue are oases of red. Run Conservatives in those districts and, while the state may stay blue, more representatives are added to the House. This is where I believe a difference can be made. There are diamonds for the taking, in 2012, in that thar rough. :)

......Good luck with that. Ultimately the mexican/american population will tip the scales toward the democratic party.

California will never legalize marijuana. I represent several growers. The money that defeated the marijuana legalization proposition came from Mexican cartels and Medical Marijuana Dispensaries. They will never allow marijuana to be legalized and taxed. Mexico runs California and there is absolutely nothing that can be done to resist them.

After Brown gets done with them, they'll be praying for another Reagan.

They already have. They want entitlements to go on forever, and they will vote so that entitlements remain a reality...that is until the edifice comes down around their heads.

More power to them. We can use their lust for entitlements to bring California down. Use your opponent's force against him.

I wonder how long the GOP brand is going to be dead, after the news that the state is spending $600 million a year on illegal alien welfare sinks in.

California Latino voters have grievances against Republicans and will never support them under any circumstances. I think Latinos in California and Texas are very different.

There aren't that many Black Americans out here. Less than ten percent of the population.

Asian voters are fifteen percent of the population, and they seem to split along generational lines.

White voters along the coast are a wealthier group who think reality will never catch up to them.

There is no predicting when hearts will change. But, California is now experiencing the full force of fiscal gravity and I'm loving it.

It won't matter in the long run.

Majority of Babies Born in California Are Latino

The Latino majority has arrived in California with the majority of babies born in the state being Latino, foreshadowing the state's future students, workers and voters, according to a UCLA study.

The era of the Latino majority among babies in California began in the summer of 2001, more than half, 50.2 percent, of all babies born in the third quarter of 2001 were Latino, and 50.6 percent in the fourth quarter of 2001 were Latino, according to a study by the UCLA Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture.

"The majority of children born in California are now Latino. As a result, the health, well-being and education of Latino children now concern the majority of all children, not a small minority," said David Hayes-Bautista, director of the center. Latino issues are now the state's mainstream, majority issues."

The Latino majority will ripple throughout California's society, institutions, economy and politics throughout the 21st century. In fall 2006, the majority of children entering the state's kindergartens will be Latino, and in fall 2014, the majority of children entering high schools will be Latino. The majority of new workers entering the state's labor force in fall 2017 will be Latino, and the majority of young adults eligible to vote in fall 2019 will be Latino.

"The long-anticipated Latino majority has arrived," he said. "In 2003, it is learning how to walk, and will shortly learn to talk. For the next 40 years, each new phase of human development, child, adolescence, young adult and middle age, will be experienced in this state by a Latino majority."........

While it will be interesting to watch the california "refugees" are already having an impact on states in the west. Hell, they're impacting my state. They're bringing their "ways" with them.

What was Arnold liberal on?

The environment. He and the Democrats have imposed new global warming regulations on the state that will kill jobs without creating new jobs. Arnold did this so he could claim some kind of legacy. The Democrats did it because that's what leftist ideology dictates. This is a millstone around the economy in California. I'm loving it.

Isn't creative destruction wonderful? I'm dancing among the effen ruins. I couldn't be happier to see the distress and agony of the left. I've been waiting for this for twenty years. I'm loving it.

Are you seriously advocating causing harm and misery to further an agenda?

Hmmm you mean like the left did to Bush??

how the surge couldn't work, had no chance of working, and was failing even as it worked?

Like calling General Petraeus, a lair, before he even testified in front of congress? What was it the left was calling him?? Be-trey-us I think it was.

Like calling Bush a war monger, because he was being hard on Iran? Going so far to product a report stating that Iran had stopped trying to get nukes?

No I'm sure we wouldn't do underhanded stuff like that.

In other words, use their own ideology against them. Your idea does have a certain ironic appeal, I gotta admit.

Old conservatives need to play the senior card against the left.

Example: Oh please save our seniors who built the state. We can't abandon the seniors. Even if we need to divert money from classroom instruction, we have to help the seniors. God wills it. We need more Meals On Wheels. We need every senior to get a free ride to the doctor's office and the pharmacy without them having to take the bus. So let's spend our money on ParaTransit. We need more wheelchair access. Sidewalks need to be replaced if they aren't even because we could fall and break our hips. This is just a start.

It was not historic, it's happened every year after an election.

it was the biggest total flip since what - the 1920's? that counts as historic.

Note that only one of the two senate seats was up for election, it was Boxer who is popular, and she still only got 52 %.

bingo. and the Popular Boxer is a left-wing senator, or a moderate one?

hint: not the moderate option.

sometimes, in order to save russia, you have to collapse the soviet union.

Being a conservative who's home station is Camp Pendleton, CA is that conservatism as a whole is dead there. Everywhere you look is entitlement programs, legalize pot movement, and Massive Government Spending when there is no cash to spend. To all you Californians here that don't think that you are a Deep-blue state trust me you are. You guys are way Bluer then my Home State of Washington and we got a good amounts of Hippies and election stealing Dems up here.
