South Korean special forces stormed a hijacked freighter in the Arabian Sea on Friday, rescuing all 21 crew members and killing eight assailants in a rare and bold raid on Somali pirates, South Korea said.

The military operation in waters between Oman and Africa, which also captured five pirates and left one crew member wounded, came a week after the Somali attackers seized the South Korean freighter and held hostage eight South Koreans, two Indonesians and 11 citizens from Myanmar.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

This type of action is rare so meh
Demonstrated by the fact Somali Pirates have increased in 2010

Pirates took a record 1,181 hostages in 2010, despite increased patrolling of the seas, a maritime watchdog has said.

The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) said 53 ships were hijacked worldwide - 49 of them off Somalia's coast - and eight sailors were killed.
BBC News - Pirates seized record 1,181 hostages in 2010 - report

And many Pirates are changing tactics to avoid being touched by navies
Somali pirates' use of "mother ships" to attack their prey is complicating foreign navies' efforts to improve safety in the Indian Ocean, a senior anti-piracy commander said Friday.

Somalia's expanding army of pirates are increasingly launching their attacks from large, already hijacked vessels that offer greater physical protection during boarding and whose kidnapped crews act as human shields.

South Korea has one of the best armed forces in the world. I'm not at all surprised by this victory or Korean valor. Congratulations to them.

There should be a thread about it . . .
The devil whispered in my ear, "You cannot withstand the storm." I whispered back, "I am the storm."

AFP: Smarter Somali pirates thwarting navies, NATO admits
The increase of pirates is due to the fact that countries and companies have financed them. BY paying out ransoms they finance these scumbags and are no better than the pirates themselves.

I think they would need more than one .50 cal.Maybe like 4 or more depending on the size of the ship because those things are heavy.

How callous... they didn't even try to dialogue with them.
Don't they know warring against people like this solves nothing?

    .
In this instance. Congrats to the Koreans for a successful operation.

As for the overall problem. Killing will not solve it... entirely.

Unless you're willing to destroy every coastal town capable of launching a skiff in Somalia.
