Immigrants gaining jobs, native-born Americans aren't

    Immigrants gaining jobs, native-born Americans aren't - CSMonitor.com

What the rest of the US is now seeing, border states like California, Texas, Arizona, have been seeing for years while the rest of the country chose to keep its head in the sand. One reason never mentioned as to why immigrants are getting a large percentage of lower end jobs (and not the so called jobs Americans won't do) is due to word of mouth when opportunities open. For example a position opens in a fast food establishment that already employs 70% immigrants and even though an employer may publicly post such jobs to seem legit and fair, insiders bringing in their acquaintances are the only ones really considered. Especially after one of those ethnic workers attains a hiring management position. And of course Wall Street based megacorps like all the fastfood corps know that well so are quick to promote such people into those positions. This type of favoritism often ethnic based is not however limited to immigrants as it has been rampant for decades in many industries. However my point here is that one significant reason why one will find many smaller businesses in some industries have gradually evolved to be nearly 100% ethnic below management.

Can I assume that you've never bought cheap consumer goods sold in big mart stores made in China, which took the jobs away from U.S. manufacturers?

Also, construction isn't the only labor market that immigrants focus on. I mentioned farm labor and the article also mentions hotel service.

So the question isn't just academic to me. Also, I have to ask why the solution to the construction workers in your family is try to be tougher on illegal immigrants instead of unionizing to enforce quality workers in that field.
Also, we need to legalize recreational drugs and prostitution.

On the other hand, in the US, Mexicans, Latin Americans and South Americans (Spanish-speakers, in short), number about 50 million, or, 1/6 of your population.
Secondly, the UK has an official national language -- English. We made the language, we're the primary source of modern changes to the language, and so we've decided to make it our official language.

The US does NOT have an official language, meaning Spanish is just as valid a language to be used in every day life in the US as English is. Furthermore, as Spanish is projected to overtake English in the US by 2050, I would say learning Spanish is a necessity for an American, whereas learning Urdu would be only minorly useful in the UK.
Europeans, completely fixated on the numbers. Hs it occured to you guys the numbers aren't exactly working for you guys any better than us? On english in america tho you are completely right, the us doesn't have an "official" language. That doesn't mean, however, we cannot be just a little bit put out by those who "seem" to be requiring we learn mexico's official language.

In regards to the usefullness of spanish what many don't realize is many/most of our erstwhile immigrants are illiterate. In order for spanish to be completely useful, we would need to teach spanish. I don't see the point. India still uses english for a reason, it is extremely useful for the citizens of a nation to be able to communicate with each other.

I don't personally buy chinese made goods. I don't like the politics of that nation or the toxicity of their goods. In regards to unions, I hold them as responsible for the demise of american manufacturing as the politicians who gave china most favored nation status. As for my cousins, they are paying the price for having been sold out by their leaders.

This of course makes me ticked! In fact in order to get a job around me that deals with the general public or a place where Latinos work you MUST be bilingual.
This is why the democrats are for the poor working class and republicans are for the rich is nothing more than a myth. They are just as guilty as ****ing the poor working class as the republicans they accuse of ****ing the poor working class.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I understand the concern...at the same time, its also kinda inspirational. MOST illegals risk everything and leave everything for a chance to WORK...to provide for their families. Meanwhile, we have lazy assholes in this country that expect others to take care of them. And many Americans that DO work in the same types of jobs do a half assed job. I dont know...its hard to be too upset with the illegals. Especially since we created the environment in the first place.

In all fairness, jamesrage, the leadership of the republican party hasn't exactly been "johnny on the spot" for those of us in the country class. I distinctly remember former arkansas govenor huckabee saying he was most surprised about the concern in in this country over illegal immigration when he was running for president.

Surprised? His state is being overun by illegals. Don tyson virtually depopulated whole sections of mexico recruiting workers for his arkansas chicken plants and he's surprised about the anger this issue is generating! That peckerwood apparently wasn't talking to any of us here in pope, johnson, and yell counties. Had he done so he'd have gotten an earfull. I hope the ignorant bastard stays on the east coast.

As for the democratic leadership, no, they don't care for us either. We are the ones peopling the tea party. We just aren't their demographic. If the leadership of the republican doesn't straighten up, we may not be their demographic either.
