House panel wants Homeland Security documents

Obama's secrecy may come to a halt and the GOP watch dogs will want to know what Obama is doing

House panel wants Homeland Security documents - Yahoo! News

A House committee has asked the Homeland Security Department to provide documents about an agency policy that required political appointees to review many Freedom of Information Act requests, according to a letter obtained Sunday by The Associated Press.

The letter to Homeland Security was sent late Friday by Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. It represents an early move by House Republicans who have vowed to launch numerous probes of President Barack Obama's administration, ranging from its implementation of the new health care law to rules curbing air pollution to spending in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Associated Press reported in July that for at least a year, Homeland Security had sidetracked hundreds of requests for federal records to top political advisers to the department's secretary, Janet Napolitano. The political appointees wanted information about those requesting the materials, and in some cases the release of documents considered politically sensitive was delayed, according to numerous e-mails that were obtained by the AP.

If it were President Bush sidetracking the requsts or there were any hints of it the Liberals would be marching in the streets with signs accusing him of being Hitler or worse.

This is Obama's idea of openness and transparency. The Committee should be screaming it the requests are not fulfilled ASAP, and be prepared to issue subpoenas followed by contempt charges if they are not.

Most of the time when I see information released under the FOIA act, I wonder why it wasn't simply put on a public website. I support getting more of that information released with as little hassle as possible. Its a major problem when government secrecy is used to conceal acts that have no business being restricted.

Personally I think that everything that falls within the FOIA act should be put on a website anyways. American citizens should not have to go through loopholes to find this stuff out.

issa's going fishing, and if he lands a headline...

and his net is certainly cast wider than the white house's repeated obstruction of freedom of information requests

no, we're gonna cast our lines into fannie and freddie, stimulus spending and (lack of) accountability, bailout money going to foreign banks (the admin stonewalled msm foia bids, here, for the better part of 2 years), wik, afghanistan corruption, dozens of elements of obamacare (from the 1099's to the hiring of extra irs agents), the epa, nra funding, the czars, the fcc and regulation of the net, human rights violations in china and elsewhere, mexican drug cartel violence on and above the border, the whitewashing of fort hood, the trials of terrorists in civil court, the reaction to the bp spill and the epa's and interior's misleading of the public, the massive cuts to medicare and the unfunded burden placed by obamacare on our broken backed states...

and it's not just issa at oversight

dave camp at ways and means, hal rogers at appropriations, fred the slasher upton at energy and commerce (key committee on health care concerns, formerly chaired by henry waxman), spencer bachus at financial services, ileana ros-lehtinen at foreign affairs, peter king at homeland security, steve king from immigration, doc hastings on natural resources...

we're gonna be inviting and in some cases subpoenaing sebelius, napolitano, geithner, bernanke, holder, lisa jackson (epa), elizabeth warren (recess appointee for consumer protection), john morton (immigration enforcement), tom vilsack, ken salazar...

and if any of these fishers finds a flounder the msm's can munch on...

I just have to say here that it is nice to see Prof using paragraphs instead of single lines. Thank you Prof.

    busy, busy...

Darrell Issa's panel to start with TARP hearing - Jake Sherman - POLITICO.com

gonna look into tarp, bring in geithner and inspector general barofsky

the latter is famous for calling out hamp (home affordable mortgage program) as a complete failure

and the ig has been very critical of the fed's instructions to aig to keep secrets from the sec

and then there's all that tarp money that ended up bailing out foreign banks

Watchdog wants stronger TARP oversight by Fed, Treasury - Jul. 20, 2009

TARP Global Impact: U.S. Bailout Helped Overseas Banks

that's an awful lot to dig on, for starters

    it's gonna be fascinating

Re: House panel wants Homeland Security documents

in reaction to obama's ominously vague wapo op ed yesterday calling for a new "regulatory regime"

Cass Sunstein summoned to Capitol Hill - Darren Samuelsohn and Robin Bravender - POLITICO.com

sunstein, obama's reg czar, has famously advocated the "legal standing" of animals to sue their owners, has advocated a ban on hunting, and compares animal use to slavery

more power to the professor from columbia and harvard law, of course, but why are so many of obama's czar so far out there?

Cass Sunstein, animal rights, animal welfare and President Obama - Baltimore hunting and fishing | Examiner.com

can you just imagine the questions and exchanges that might go down next wednesday?

get used to it, folks, there are gonna be hundreds of these airings

The Department of Homeland Security should be abolished.
You know the time is right to take control, we gotta take offense against the status quo
