The Dimona complex in the Negev desert is famous as the heavily guarded heart of Israel’s never-acknowledged nuclear arms program, where neat rows of factories make atomic fuel for the arsenal.

Over the past two years, according to intelligence and military experts familiar with its operations, Dimona has taken on a new, equally secret role — as a critical testing ground in a joint American and Israeli effort to undermine Iran’s efforts to make a bomb of its own.

Behind Dimona’s barbed wire, the experts say, Israel has spun nuclear centrifuges virtually identical to Iran’s at Natanz, where Iranian scientists are struggling to enrich uranium. They say Dimona tested the effectiveness of the Stuxnet computer worm, a destructive program that appears to have wiped out roughly a fifth of Iran’s nuclear centrifuges and helped delay, though not destroy, Tehran’s ability to make its first nuclear arms.

The hells is wrong with the NYT? Why the hell would you post this information???

Why wouldn't you post this information?

If a journalist can find that info, it's probably not exactly secret.

Because someone wanted those details to be public knowledge. Almost certainly Israeli. Those in Iran and in Israel and in America responsible for the intelligence / counter-intelligence roles have known this information all along. I suspect this leak is coordinated with a lobbying effort to get Israel some more credit and/or funding from the American Congress.

I don’t have a problem with this NYT story. There isn’t anything in it that Iran didn’t already know.

I have a problem with them publishing the wiki-leaks crap but this, I enjoy reading about.

If this information was made public or was accessible easily there is no reason not to publish it.

However if it was obtained through a mole or covert source as a former reporter I would have taken it to the Israelis and give them a heads up because a mole or covert source will find someone willing to publish if I'm not.

I believe in or commitments to our allies and security comes before journalism every time. I believe people that release classified documents that put lives and our National Honor at steak are treasonous scum bags or at the very least enemies and should be treated as such and in some cases removed with extreme prejudice.

pfft knowledge is freedom. I don't support big government cover ups like you apparently do. The government is me and you and we have a right to know. The only one's putting people's lives at stake are me, you, and our elected officials. Stop blaming others for your own actions. Your "honor" is just your reputation and if you do something to besmirch it, it's your fault; not the person pointing out what you've done.

Yeah, thre should be NO Secrets, so when our gov't tries to undermine our enemies, the enemies have a fair chance to stop it, and retaliate! YEAH DOG!

Not many military secrets escape Israel, especially to the NYT. I think Israel intended to release the info. It really is a boost for them.

Apparently, the Stuxnet program was initiated during the Bush administration. The US, Israel, Germany, and the UK all contributed... although it is unknown if Germany and the UK were aware of how their contributions (technical) would be utilized. Israel performed beta tests of Stuxnet at its Dimona facility. When the beta testing was completed and the results were deemed successful, Obama ordered it to be utilized in Iranian enrichment facilities. Off the record, US officials say that this extraordinary measure was considered necessary to buy more time for a diplomatic resolution and thus forestall a possible Israeli preemptive strike. Israel agreed.

Ah.... one of those sucker punch fighters. *grumbles

As long as it's not Israeli or American officials who are talking about this alleged action and as long as the NYT is not bringing in any evidence on their claims then it does no wrong to Western interests concerning Iran really.
