Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Shot In Arizona

The little girl died, and the Fed Judge...

I have to ask, in a scenario like this, can we skip straight to the lethal injection? The murderer was caught on the scence by a by-stander, there is no freaking question he did this act, and he's obviously crazy enough to be dangerous to society. If nothing else, it would cost too much to put him in a crazy house (which I'm sure his attorney is going to suggest).

Would you feel that way if Giffords was just an ordinary citizen?

If he is incapable to stand trial what happens to him? A mental institute?

Yes.

All that's requires is that he be competent to stand trial. That's different than insanity which is actually a defense at trial.

I'm saying that it wouldn't surprise me if he's not competent to stand trial.

Gifford isn't dead, she's alive. I'm pissed off about the little girl, and the 4 or 5 others, not to mention everything I've heard about this guy makes him look like he's the epitomy of a parasite on society.

Hell no, we are a nation of laws, and a judicial system... As bad as this crime is, the guy has a right to his day in court.

So, you would have the same feelings about anyone who murdered a child?

Yeah, then we'll execute him.

Reminds me of some of the rambling of the Manson Family that came to light, after the Tate killings.

I very much doubt that this guy can be labeled as one party or the other. This:

is insanity.

I would much prefer putting him in solitary for the remainder of his life.
I'm okay with that as long as the remainder of his life is pretty frikkin' short.

Do I suggest the death penalty for anyone who murders a child? Absolutely.

After killing one person, I think the only thing that should change is how much time you have left to life. Serial killers die before someone who kills one person. Just because the more you kill, the less you deserve to live, IMO.

That would cost too much. Does his case take precedence over other cases in terms of court dates because he killed a judge and attempted to kill a Congresswoman?

The cost of executing somebody (after all the appeals) actually cost much more than putting them up for life. I don't think you actually care about cost anyway.

I think we should make an example of him. If solitary confinement were worse than a death sentence, people on death row wouldn't spend 25 years appealing their sentences, they would just say the hell with it and go to the death chamber. Why don't they do that? Because a life sentence is a helluva lot better than dieing.

I understand that, and thats the only problem with the death penalty. Honestly, there are people that need killing in this world. Our legal system should be a little more streamlined to accomodate that reality. In any case, for this particular person, I don't really care about the costs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't an appeal be denied? Or is that only if you appeal to the SCOTUS?

In death cases an appeal is automatic, even if the murderer doesn't want to. FYI; I've done a lot of research on the legalities of capital punishment.

Does it really matter? The point is this psycho needs to pay for his actions. And stop idiotically stereo-typing such a large group as "left-wingers" you look foolish.

Bah - add in the fact that he thinks he was smarter then everyone else (they're all illiterate in his district) and you almost certainly have a left wing nut job. I agree, he has to pay for his actions, but I can stereo-type all I like.

Haven't you gotten the message that this is not the thread, time, or place for right vs left crap? If not, you really should read more of the damn thread before posting.

They just said 6 people are dead.

Wow, what a mess.

How incredibly sad. Some wicked individual should be severely punished for his crimes. My prayers are with Congresswoman Giffords and with those who have lost loved ones or are injured due to this horrific act of terrorism.

No idea where you are coming up with this "left wing" noise. The guy's profile just sounds like a psycho to me. Maybe throw in some "visions of grandeur" and a bit of a superiority complex.

"Wackjob" was pretty obvious from the start. Assassination attempts basically come in two flavors: lunatic snapping or professional hit, and professionals don't usually stroll up in the middle of the crowd and shoot someone point-blank because that pretty much guarantees you'll be captured or killed.

Exactly, this wasn't a left/right political thing. This was a crazy guy wanting to kill a member of congress, ANY member of congress, and anyone near them. And unfortunately for Mrs. Giffords, she was the one he had access to.

Why must we pass around accusations and try to force a political motive? What happened was assault and murder, let's not turn it into a partisan hack fest. Please and thank you.
