According to ABC, this is the guy's youtube channel:

The guy seems to be one of the more insane people I've ever encountered.

From what I'm hearing he's a lunatic. Considering how conservative the Congresswoman is, his commentary (if what I'm hearing is accurate) leans AR RIGHT makes this not a political event, but more like the shooting of John Lennon. One ****ED UP Mofo with issues.

One can hope, sadly Fox news is being emphatic that he was DOA at the scene and it's been confirmed.

I know this sounds terrible, but better he then an average citizen. I hope people understand my meaning in saying that.

No, I really don't understand what you mean, and would appreciate it if you explain it. As I see it, it's much much worse if someone gets killed who is a congresswoman or a judge, and their occupation had anything to do with it. One fear I have for this country is that gradually over time, the idea that it's ok to use violence to achieve political change will become an acceptable idea, at least in enough people to matter. That's why I raise such a fuss when people talk about "second amendment solutions" or publish maps with crosshairs. There's only a few things that really make sure we don't slide and degenerate into being another third world failure as a country. Our comparative low rate of corruption and a strong industry are big parts of it, but one of the biggest is how strong our democratic tradition is. Even countries in Europe, most of the rest of the Democratic world, don't have nearly the smooth sailing we do as far as keeping a democratic form of government.

You know there's people out there of whatever beliefs that see this and go "Oh, Giffords didn't fit into my ideology. Good riddance." If this encourages any of them to take out another elected leader, well I'll let you think of where that road leads.

Holy **** some of this stuff is nuts:

Terrorist

If I define terrorist then a terrorist is a person who employs terror or terrorism, especially as a political weapon.

I define terrorist.

Thus, a terrorist is a person who employs terror or terrorism, especially as a political weapon.

If you call me a terrorist then the argument to call me a terrorist is an Ad hominem.
You call me a terrorist.
Thus the argument to call me a terrorist is an Ad hominem.

From a video he posted 3 weeks ago.

"In conclusion, reading the second United States Constitution, I can't trust the current government because of the ratifications: The government is implying mind control and brainwash on the people by controlling grammar."

Well he's favorited a video by this guy:

http://www.youtube.com/user/Starhitshnaz

Which has only one video, that has a very low amount of viewers (and now everyone is there due to the incident, take in count).
This means it's either the same person or they share their lunacy.

****ing creep nonetheless.

Okay, I was afraid this would be taken wrong.

There is a shooting, like now. Number of dead, and some Gov't officials also shot.

I'd RATHER the dead be the Gov't officials, because at least knew and accepted a level of inherent risk, then it be all civilians.

Does that clear it up?

think of it like... a NASCAR wreck, and the car hits the stand. You hear there is a death, I would hope that it was driver because HE knew the risk... see what I am saying?

A good example of why I support the death penalty without reservation.

You never know about head shots with handguns. If they're non-contact, sometimes they glance off the skullbone, skitter around under the skin, and exit far from the entry wound without penetrating the brain. This goes even for larger calibers.

OTOH a contact shot is usually fatal, as the muzzle blast is almost as bad as the bullet.

Guess we'll see.

This is horrible, absolutely horrible. The shooter sounds like an absolute nutbag of the first order. Glad he's in custody.

Hope all recover.

I want to know all we can find out about the political beliefs and motivations of this shooter.

The model here should be the 1933 shooting of Mayor Anton Cermak of Chicago and the justice handed out in that case.

Just from watching his youtube video, it appears he thought he would die.

He claims in one video to be "a military recruit at MEPS in Phoenix".

I do see what you say. And I didn't mean to sound like I was attacking you, I guess I went a bit soap box. You can be a pain in the ass, but I know you wouldn't actually support the shooting of a congresswoman.

A cousin of mine was shot in the head by some guy trying to kill his ex. Instead he hit my cousin. She was blinded by it and had a lot of facial reconstruction done to repair the damage. (the guy used a rifle not a handgun)

Googling the passage he has written in the video leads to many pages.

This myspace page for example:

Joe Iosue (♠Yo-sway♠) on Myspace

A 21 years old from Tucson, Yo-sway is the name, sharing the same video in the 3rd of October.
****ing creepy.

This should be the model we follow in cases like this

Assassination attempt

On February 15, 1933, Roosevelt was giving an impromptu speech from the back of an open car in the Bayfront Park area of Miami, Florida, where Zangara was living, working the occasional odd job, and living off his savings. Zangara joined the crowd, armed with a .32-caliber pistol he had bought at a local pawn shop. However, being only five feet tall, he was unable to see over other people, and had to stand on a wobbly folding metal chair, peering over the hat of Lillian Cross to get a clear aim at his target.[3] After the first shot, Cross and others grabbed his arm, and he fired four more shots wildly. He missed the president-elect, but five other people were hit, including Chicago mayor Anton Cermak, who was standing on the running board of the car next to Roosevelt. En route to the hospital, Cermak had allegedly told FDR, "I'm glad it was me and not you, Mr. President", words now inscribed on a plaque in Bayfront Park.
[edit]Aftermath

In the Dade County Courthouse jail, Zangara confessed and stated: "I have the gun in my hand. I kill kings and presidents first and next all capitalists." He pleaded guilty to four counts of attempted murder and was sentenced to 80 years in prison. As he was led out of the courtroom, Zangara told the judge: "Four times 20 is 80. Oh, judge, don't be stingy. Give me a hundred years." The judge, aware that Cermak might not survive his wounds, replied: "Maybe there will be more later."
Cermak died of peritonitis 19 days later, on March 6, 1933, two days after Roosevelt's inauguration. Zangara was promptly indicted for first-degree murder in Cermak's death. Because Zangara had intended to commit murder, it was irrelevant that his intended target was not the man he ultimately killed.
Zangara pleaded guilty to the additional murder charge, and was sentenced to die. Zangara said after hearing his sentence: "You give me electric chair. I no afraid of that chair! You one of capitalists. You is crook man too. Put me in electric chair. I no care!"[4] Under Florida law, a convicted murderer could not share cell space with another prisoner before his execution, but another convicted murderer was already awaiting execution at Raiford. Zangara's sentence required prison officials to expand their waiting area, and the "death cell" became "Death Row".
[edit]Execution

On March 20, 1933, after spending only 10 days on Death Row, Zangara was executed in Old Sparky, the electric chair at Florida State Penitentiary in Raiford, Florida. Zangara became enraged when he learned no newsreel cameras would be filming his final moments. Zangara's final statement was "Viva Italia! Goodbye to all poor peoples everywhere! [...] Push the button!" [5]

Five weeks between the shooting and the execution.

Nor five months.
Not five years.
Five weeks.

Normally I would say that a trial that convicts and incarcerates an individual is a more harsh punishment for most people. The idea that your actions are unacceptable by society can be traumatic. But this guy seems to believe he's above it all and so he'd view society's condemnation as beneath him.
