Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Shot In Arizona

Are we sure it was politically motivated? What kind of an event was it? This is awful.

Really, in AZ, you'd think it would be for other reasons?

While being interviewed, a guy on CNN, just said "This was inevitiable, the right, and I'm speaking broadly, has been stoking the fires of hatred for a long time." That didn't take long for this to be blamed on conservatives/right wing ideology.

Wow, now they are saying that "AZ is a gun happy state, it's almost a fetish, so that is surely to blame"
You should read the the NPR Comments, or hell my wife made the mistake of reading the "Somethingawful" thread on it. The commentary is.... horrific.

Not sure if it's true, but reports are that the shooter yelled something before shooting.

Remember Reagan's would be assassin? Not political.

Lennon's killer? Not political.

And now there's some pushback. MSNBC is saying she's in surgery and there's also this:

LATE BREAKING: UMC officials confirm Rep. Giffords is in surgery. She has not been declared dead.

KOLD News 13 (KOLD_news13) on Twitter

Hoping that means more than just that it's not yet been declared.

According to Darci Slaten, University Medical Center public affairs officer, Gifford's death has not been confirmed.

"She is alive and in surgery right now," Slaten said.

Earlier, CNN and Fox News had both confirmed Giffords' death.

The guy walked up to a Congresswoman at an event she was having and shot her in the head - I think it's safe to say that he was targeting her, for whatever reason.

I think it would be nice if we could avoid getting into the politics of this for at least a little while.

I respect what you are saying, but sorry, I am PISSED

CNN is saying she may be in surgery now, lets hope the reports saying she is dead are false.

Fox reported that she has passed away.

NPR and Reuters say she's dead.

I have said before that there has been a change in people's attitudes to politicians and we can expect more of this. It is seen in a increasing approval by people upsetting a politician's speech by verbal outrage.

There is so much hatred of both sides that some with mental imbalances will act on it. You see this tendency to make light of harm to the president. There was a recent thread here about a MMA fighter who wanted to beat down Obama. Many scoffed that he really didn't mean it and I doubt he actually wanted to attack the president. But is sets up a precedent that it is more and more okay to approve of such hatred.

Anyone who supports this type of behavior is a terrorist and enemy to the US Constitution and USA. If any side advocates violence, they need to be subdued by the GOV'T by all means necessary.

I knew it wouldn't be too long before someone started using this for political gain. It's a damn shame this kind of **** happens every time there is some sort of national tragedy.

I don't think anyone here is happy about this at all. This is a tragedy and the truth will come out eventually. What isn't healthy at this point is to start playing the blame game and start pointing fingers. We've seen this time and time again where certain folks jump to a conclusion that isn't there. Rather than project our anger and frustration at "the other side", we should be thinking of the families of those affected by this tragedy. We will get to the truth, but it will take some time.

MSNBC said a hospital spokesmen said she's alive, and in surgery. Sherrif backs it up too

I agree, but I am fit to be tied. I ain't blaming anyone. And, my prayers are for all the victims and their family.

2:44 CNN just said she is dead again

CNN just retracted AGAIN and said they are dropping it for now and leaving it up in the air. Maybe be in surgery.

Others have been confirmed dead.

I have heard 12 people have been shot and 5 are dead including a child..........It sounds like a terrorist attack.............

Now I have just heard that the Congresswoman is still alive at the hospital in critical condition...............
