This is Jared's actions and Jareds only.
No, I would not pass the buck. But there being a person, guilty as all hell of being a murderer and a monster, does not resolve the political entertainers either. Responsiblllity covers all for what they responsible for. No one should get a free pass.

AUSTAN GOOLSBEE: I think the world vests too much power, certainly in the president, probably in Washington in general for its influence on the economy, because most all of the economy has nothing to do with the government.

The same reason there was so much condemnation of rap music encouraging violence and teen sex.

Not sure of your point. Clarify if you will.

Early on with Rap music there was the so called Gangsta style of music. It promoted violence and especially drive by shootings.
The artist never directly acted out in the violence, well most of the time they didn't.
But many people were not willing to give the Rappers a free pass for any responsibility in some inncer city violence.

I would not excuse those who acted violently. But I would not excuse those who promoted violence, even through music either. Do we agree?

    More info on the shooter:

Suspect Fixated on Giffords - WSJ.com

TUCSON, Ariz.—Accused gunman Jared Lee Loughner appeared to have been long obsessed with U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. A safe at Mr. Loughner's home contained a form letter from Ms. Giffords' office thanking him for attending a 2007 "Congress on your Corner'' event in Tucson. The safe also held an envelope with handwritten notes, including the name of Ms. Giffords, as well as "I planned ahead," "My assassination," and what appeared to be Mr. Loughner's signature, according to an FBI affidavit.

    ...

Mr. Loughner had complained to a friend about how he was treated by the Arizona lawmaker during an event several years ago, which aggravated Mr. Loughner, according to the friend.

    ...

Mr. Montanaro said his friend "was never really political," but "really tried to be philosophical." Mr. Loughner liked "contemplating the meaning of words and the origin of language," Mr. Montanaro said. That interest might have triggered Mr. Loughner's first meeting with Ms. Giffords in 2007. Mr. Loughner said he asked the lawmaker, "How do you know words mean anything?" recalled Mr. Montanaro. He said Mr. Loughner was "aggravated" when Ms. Giffords, after pausing for a couple of seconds, "responded to him in Spanish and moved on with the meeting."
People were talking about him in terms of being someone they thought might shoot up the school as long as a year ago:

People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Excuse them from what? If it's not illegal to do, they need no excuse.

There are no children that are ugly little creatures. They are all beautiful in my eyes.

History shows us that it doesn't have any effect on domestic political assissinations.

There were more assissinations/assissination attempts before the internet than there have been after.
