Bond set for Plainfield teacher charged with having sex with student

A Plainfield North High School teacher has been ordered not to have unsupervised contact with anyone under age 18 after a judge set her bond this afternoon at $75,000, following charges she had sex with a 16-year-old boy.
Ashley M. Blumenshine, 27, of the 4000 block Nutmeg Lane in Lisle was charged with criminal sexual abuse after police say she allegedly had sex with the 16-year-old, who is a junior at Plainfield North, in a vehicle behind Kohl’s, 11860 S. Route 59.
Police chief Bill Doster said police approached the scene behind Kohl’s when they noticed two suspicious vehicles “at the end of the lot away from anything else.”

It is hard to understand being attracted to a 16 year old boy. They can barely form sentences coherently.

I must agree! But damn that kid is lucky! This woman is a hero if ya ask me. Wish I had a her for a teacher if ya know what I mean.

Y'know, it's the chaos that's been kicked up around teachers shtupping students that is one of the principal reasons I've decided to avoid becoming a teacher and I dont really see the good that can come from being so flippant about it.

Aside from the absolutely titanic double standard that exists between men and women accused of this, it creates a paranoid atmosphere where ANY sort of behavior is instantly misconstrued.

I think our laws on sexual contact are antiquated and highly unreasonable given the state of sexual freedom and expression and exhibition and knowledge in modern times. Personally I think the age of consent should be dialed back to 16 and that issues like this should be dealt with as one of professional conduct if sex is consensual. If it wasn't consensual then that is a different story but in the older women younger boy scenario it is much less likely to be unconsensual than if it were older man and younger girl. She should simply not be able to teach again at the high school level or below. I don't think she should be thrown in jail and I think the law should be the same for men and women. If there are issues of consent and coercion they should be dealt with. The given minor's attitude, lifestyle and sexual knowledge should be considered. There are sixteen year old girls who are way more advanced sexually than some much older women and on the other hand there are sixteen year old girls who are very naive and completely inexperienced. I don't like arbitrary limits and laws which leave no room for discretion.

There are a lot of men on this site much older who can hardly form a coherent sentence

That being said, if I was 16, I'd be tapping that til the cows come home.

It never ceases to entertain me how when a woman has sex with an underage boy he's lucky as hell -- but when a man has sex with an underage girl, he's a predator. :lol:
