Sixth-Grade Girl Has Date in Court After Writing in Wet Cement

Re: Sixth-Grade Girl Has Date in Court After Writing in Wet Cement Read more: http:/

I'm sorry to have replied to you at all, it appears you over inflated your own experience and have merely been trolling the thread.

Have a nice day Tucker, don't bother responding, I won't even see it.

No, we were comparing our experience with concrete. Your sidewalks vs. my multiple nationwide megastore construction experience.

 Like I said, lie all you want, we both know the truth.

The three of you are acting like sixth graders on this thread...

I never said they shouldn't be punished or that consequences were not appropriate.

I'm saying this time, it was inappropriately handled.

OK. I disagree.

That's an improvement for me. :2razz:

I don't even want to imagine what you are going to be like next weekend in the NFC divisional playoffs... probably a lot like me when my boys whip up on the Jets again...

Overgeneralize much?

Actually, I think I was remarkably specific by limiting the scope of my comment to this thread. If you're looking for overgeneralization, that would have been the post I responded to.

I understand that maybe you can't just let it go because it is vandalism. However, I don't think they need to be so aggressive as they are being with this little girl. She's a kid, kids do stupid things all the time. And writing one's name in the concrete, it's not the worst thing a person can do. I think in cases like this, you know the police can pick them up if they see it, and then take them home. Tell the parents. "Hey, we caught your little girl writing her name in the concrete. That's destruction of public property, vandalism, blah blah blah. Most parents are not that thrilled when their kids get brought home in a police cruiser. I think that perhaps they are going overboard in prosecution.

Kids do indeed do stupid things all the time. Sometimes the stupid things they do are even illegal. Kids have to follow the law, just like the rest of us. Luckily this time, they were able to feel the proper consequences for their actions. And most of the kids weren't prosecuted. Most of the kids had to right an essay. One of the kids has a stupid dad who decided to raise a fuss.

Taking them to the precinct sounds like a much better option than a police officer driving around looking for four different houses and leaving children unattanded in his car while he talks to parents. It's the parent's problem, it should be their inconvenience to pick them up.

It seems you do. After all, it is the taxpayers who are going to pay for the repair to the sidewalk if the parents don't pay up for the damage.

What the little girl did might seem cute, but it was on someone else's property. If her father believes that this is so adorable, then he should give her a tool that she can use on THEIR cement (driveway, walkway, etc).

Dad: It's OK, she's not hurting anybody.

Observer: Then why are you spanking her, dad?

And there is no reason to waste tax dollars on court appearances. Maybe you think it should go to the supreme court; why let's have it on TV. Get a ****ing grip, she's only 12. Maybe we should retry you for all the **** you did at 12, and didn't get nailed by today's standards. How about that?

The only reason we're "wasting money" is cause her dad's a jackass.

Re: Sixth-Grade Girl Has Date in Court After Writing in Wet Cement Read more: http:/

Good thing such stupidity wasn't around when I was a kid... can't tell you how many places my name or initials are written in cement.

How is holding children accountable for their actions stupid?

That is one of the best ways to raise kids... that their choices have consequences.

The dad is wasting everybody's time and money... he should get charged and sent the bill for all of the lawyers and courts hours and billings as a result, if he loses.

I got in trouble once, last time I did it too. Neighbors mom saw us writing our name on the new cement poured in a corner. I got the "Wooden spoon" punishment. Never did it again.

Was that just the other day?

...and that is fine, gettin' it from ma and pa, but this girls pa is being a dork and making a big thing about it.

Write, Kelzie, WRITE!... pregnancy is no excuse for such a mistake! ;)

Re: Sixth-Grade Girl Has Date in Court After Writing in Wet Cement Read more: http:/

See, the fact this reached the level of requiring a Jude at all, makes my point. Kids + Wet Cement = Names, initials... it happens. The MOST those cops should have done was tell the kids to run along.

I'm in full agreement with you. The kids were just being kids. The cops should have gave them a good scare and sent them on their way. I would guess a 9 year old (was it 9?) may not have even realized she was doing something illegal. I imagine all these kids saw was "fun"

However, once busted.....the dad didn't do his child any favors by fighting the punishment. It was an opportunity to teach her something important. Dad failed big IMO.

I'm nto even touching what the dad did. I THINK he's pissed what should have been handled one way, blew up into this mess.

They were 12. Even at 9, I would hope a kid knows that permanently damaging someone's property was wrong.

They did get a good scare. That would have been it for all concerned if one dad wasn't being a moron.

ok, I re-read the article. The girl in question was 11 and it looks like they were etching their names in the sidewalk. So I stand by what I said. I'm not convinced that an 11 year old would know that etching her name on a sidewalk was a crime.

Just because a parent doesn't teach their kids morality doesn't mean the kids get a pass for illegal behavior. I knew at 5 that writing my name in cement was wrong.

Re: Sixth-Grade Girl Has Date in Court After Writing in Wet Cement Read more: http:/

I say they shouldn't be punished. How does a 12 yr old know it's illegal to write your name in wet cement? Was there a sign posted? For God's sake, how could this be crime? It's a waste of taxpayer dollars and court time. It's nothing more than legal bullying. Families do this quite often in their own cement.

Hey, I like that answer. May I send my grandkids kids over to your property to vandalize it a a lttle? I think I will do that anyways. After all, you don't have a sign posted on your property saying "NO VANDALISM".

All kidding aside, forcing families to pay for the damage that their kids do is not legal bullying. It is called getting those responsible for property damage to others to compensate the owners of that property for the damage that THEIR family did to it. If it is a public sidewalk, there is still an owner. It's called the taxpayers, and as a taxpayer myself, I'll be damned if MY taxes are going to have to foot the bill for what some irresponsible's dad's kid did to it.

Whether or not the 12 year old kid knew she was breaking the law is not the point. The point is that damage was done, and that compensation must be made. It's called accepting responsibility.

Finally, I am really confused as to why you have yourself listed as Libertarian, since a fundamental premise of Libertarianism is that rights are based on property.

That's funny, because I didn't. I grew up etching my initials into concrete because I had a dad who poured concrete all the time. By 11 I knew exactly how "set" it should be to make sure my initials stayed visible through the curing process.

A crime to etch initials into concrete? Uh no. I sure am glad to know that our congresswomen can get a hole blown through her head because the cops are out stopping 11yo kids from putting their initials in concrete. Where were the cops during the shooting? Checking all the wet concrete in the area for kids?

That's good use of our police force, isn't it? :lamo

Um yes it is. Unless it's your daddy's cement on his private property, it is considered vandalism in all fifty states. Obviously he raised you with a proper respect for others property.

And your attempt to tie this to the assassination attempt is bewildering, to say the least.
