China completes stealth fighter prototype

Here's a video of it taxing out.

FoxNews.com - China's New Fighter Jet Could Pose 'Terrifying' Challenge to U.S. Fleet

To those who say "Well, we had this technology 20 years ago" that is irrelevant. China has it now, and their plane, by all estimates, is superior to ours.

So in 20 years, they went from 20 years behind us, to 20 years ahead of us.

No, read the article. According to Navy pilot Matthew Buckley, who said this:

And that pilot was flying F 18's I believe.

Which in this case would mean the new Chinese fighter should be better ( the F 18 has been around since the mid 80s

If the new Chinese Fighter does what its supposed to do, and when its complete, it should be able to beat an F-18 in a one on one fight. That much is true, however if we are talking about total power comparison the Chinese have a long way to go to beat the US military in the fight for air superiority.

The Chinese do not have to beat the US military in a fight for air superiority worldwide. Only in the most western part of the Western Pacific. By 2020 the Chinese Navy and Air Force will be able to overwhelm the US Navy in that limited part of the world. The Chinese are planning a high intensity war that would be completed before America can act effectively.

Thus, the Chinese are planning for a limited war. The problem for the Chinese is that once the first blow is struck there is no telling where things will go. There are elements within the PLA who think America is so decadent that it will simply accept a military defeat at their hands.

Having f-22s in Taiwan would be sensless since its predicted that the almost all planes would be destroyed or immobolized due to chinese missles and bombing. The few that would survive would mainly be the ones in the air.

It it actually f-16 C/D fighters that are on our government's wish list. You don't think we have satellite and radar coverage of China? If they DO plan to attack, those planes will be in the air before missiles and PLA fighters can hit...

Fighter jets cant stay in the air all that long without refueling. I imagine the conflict would last more than half a day.

And missiles travel fast.... really fast.

Sorry to say it but it seems that the more and more powerful China gets, the harder it will be for the US to defend Taiwan. It appears analysts already believe Taiwanese airspace would probably be dominated by the Chinese.

The Taiwan air force already has contingencies if airstrips are compromised... they TRAIN for this, sometimes at the inconvenience of those who use the expressways during the annual Hanguang War Games...

I think that later statement is overstating it... at this point, but time is not on our side... all the more reason to supply Taiwan with enhanced air fighter capabilities...

China has made an amazing leap in acquiring advanced American weapons technology. I wonder how they do it?

"A federal judge who heard the 10-day trial in Santa Ana, California, without a jury convicted 73-year-old Dongfan "Greg" Chung of economic espionage and of acting as an agent for the People's Republic of China.

"Mr. Chung has been an agent of the People's Republic of China for over 30 years," U.S. District Judge Cormac Carney said in a 31-page written verdict.

"The trust Boeing placed in Mr. Chung to safeguard its proprietary and trade secret information obviously meant very little to Mr. Chung," Carney wrote. "He cast it aside to serve the PRC, which he proudly proclaimed to be his 'motherland.' The court must now hold Mr. Chung accountable for his crimes."

Chung, a Chinese-born naturalized U.S. citizen who was free on $250,000 bail during the trial, was jailed after the verdict and faces a maximum penalty of 90 years in prison when he is sentenced on November 9."

"...China, in a show of force for the United States, apparently conducted the first test flight of its new stealth fighter jet. The 15-minute flight occurred just hours before Mr. Gates met with President Hu Jintao to talk about improving relations between the Chinese and American militaries and ways to reduce tensions during a nascent arms buildup between the two countries...." http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/12/world/asia/12military.html?_r=2&hp

So do you think the test was a result of Gates declaring that within the next five years NK will be a direct threat to the US?

I think the Chinese were making a point because the test flight of the Chinese stealth plane occurred immediately before Gates arrived for a very cold and unpleasant meeting with his Chinese counterparts in the PLA.
