Obama: not always a fan of upping the debt ceiling

Here are Obama’s thoughts on the debt limit in 2006, when he voted against increasing the ceiling:

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

In 2007 and in 2008, when the Senate voted to increase the limit by $850 billion and $800 billion respectively, Obama did not bother to vote. (He did vote for TARP, which increased the debt limit by $700 billion.)

And your going to provide actual proof of this when?

That's the nature of politics, too. Promise a new day, change, everything will be better, anything. Once elected, of course, it's a lot harder to deliver. Do you think those freshman representatives who have promised to make such monumental changes will be able to follow through?

So, are you just making things up to help you justify your belief in Obama, or can you find some actual evidence that Obama only voted against it (or didn't vote at all) because he knew it had enough votes to pass? Based on his statement at the time of his vote not to increase the debt ceiling, I would tend to think you're just making it up as you go along.

Why anyone continues to support Obama is beyond me. What exactly has Obama done that anyone can really be proud of and has made this country better. The elections of Nov. 2010 say that the majority gotthe answer right, too bad some never will

Democrats and socialists are good at incrementalism, Republicans need to learn the concept and I believe will. You eat an elephant one bite at a time. The New Republican controlled House will take it one step at a time. Going to be fun to watch.

I already have. When he told that woman that maybe her 100 + year old gramdma would be better off taking a pain pill, what do you believe he was talking about?

Americans are so enamored of equality that they would rather be equal in slavery than unequal in freedom.

j-mac doesn't believe in proof and facts and evidence.... much too time consuming.

running one's mouth, regurgitating Glenn Beck talking points is easier. Look at his hero, Sarah Palin.

I have never seen a liberal offer proof of anything but they have offered a lot of opinions and feelings that they pass off as fact. Words matter to a liberal more than actual results.
