Navy opens investigation into raunchy videos

Oh please....its about the level of maturity that we expect from our military....ESPECIALLY our military leaders. Perhaps you don't share the same high standards.
I saw on the news, when this first broke, that a number of sailors were defending Honors (you have to appreciate the irony in his name, right now). I really think the guy was just trying to be funny. Let's face it, a lot of times the jokes that are on the edge are the funniest. Making this video, to me, wasn't enough to convince me that he's not a good commander. Losing his command over this was too draconian and it's just unfortunate that a, by all accounts, good officer will always be remembered now for something so stupid.

Yeah, go with that, however, all I really see here is a bunch of pansies with they shorts in a wad over some bad jokes, and poorly constructed video. Face it, you saw an opening to get this guy for using the word "Fag" and PCism took over.

Of course he was trying to be funny, but the level of the humor clearly showed the immaturity in his style. He may have been a good commander in some aspects, but I think his judgement and the immaturity of the content sincerely call into question his fitness to be in such a high supervisory position.

It has absolutely ZERO to do with "Fag". I would say the same thing if it was the same type of immature humor involving anyone. The fact of the matter is, when dealing with the military, do we really want someone with the lack of judgement that would put something like this out...and if your answer is yes, then I would suggest that we need higher standards in our military.

He was making a video for sailors who are, what, like 18 to 22 years old. I don't mean to say they're necessarily immature, but neither are they likely to appreciate an adaption of A Mid-Summer's Night Dream (I've always been told that that's a comedy, I never thought it particularly funny).

I suspect that our men/women of the military are a little more mature than you are giving them credit for...and BTW...I never found most of Shakespeare's comedys all that funny, except for Merchant of Venice.

Sorta. he as the XO when he made these, not the old man. It's not something the XO should be doing pushing any boundaries of good taste, but then again he did not push them far. It's one of those technically wrong things that in my day we would have looked the other way.

I guess fratboy antics aren't allowed in the military.

I would hope that our military men/women have more maturity levels than that of a fratboy...when we are putting them in charge of the type of weaponry we employ. Just sayin.....

 Oh please. is do wittle navy guy or gal got some hurt feewings? Awwwwww.

Naw, it's the Navy; they were too busy having gay sex to pay attention to the video.

In this case a video camera.

Yup, and I'm not sure stupid is something I really want higher up in the chain of command. I'd hope that perhaps when people are ready and willing to lead that they'd leave stupid at home. And, BTW, who the hell makes videos these days and doesn't expect it to end up on the internet. Before you take any video or picture you should ask yourself "Am I ok with this being on the internet?".

Actually, they're not. That's the reason that their commander must be.

You're dreadfully mistaken. Just speaking from experience.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that.

hooah. your average PFC, SPC, SRA, CPL, etc has about the same maturity level as your average house cat.

Actually I think the vast majority are...but even if not true, that is even more reason why this guy should have been canned.

You're completely wrong. The worst mistake a leader can make, is to assume that his junior enlisted personel don't need adult supervision.

Nope, certainly doesn't. And if you don't get your stupid under control, and it comes out in documented proof that you're stupid particularly in relation to your job; you shouldn't be surprised if you get fired

No one is saying that they don't need supervision. Even very mature people need supervision in any field.

speaking from over 20 years supervising junior enlisted, I can tell you that the vast majority of them are more immature than you can possibly imagine.

So then you are agreeing that the only thing this man should be supervising is a video camera? Thank you for proving my point.

If I appear to be agreeing with you, assume that you are seeing things. Carry on.

It would be a complete misunderstanding, to believe that junior enlisted men in the military, require the same amount of adult supervision that a person of the same age requires in a civilian job. Junior enlisted personel require three times more supervision, than a civilan employee. I know that after months of pontificating on behalf of our service members, as an argument in favor of abolishing DADT, you're now in a position where you have to argue against the fact that junior enlisted men are just as immature as any other 18-25 y/o, but to argue with that fact would make you incredibally wrong.

House cats are mature.
