Navy opens investigation into raunchy videos

That's right, shame really...this really is a question of how much the past effects us....Too bad really, we may be tossing out a really good commander, on the basis of PC.

A good commander would have been smart enough not to do something this stupid.

a really good commander would've been smart enough not to video himself doing something this stupid.

"One of the videos opens with an unmistakable declaration of intent: "This evening, all you bleeding hearts and you fags ... why don't you just go ahead and hug yourselves for the next 20 minutes or so because there's a really good chance you're going to be offended tonight." ..."
"In one of the later videos, Honors acknowledges that everyone is not happy. "Over the years I've gotten several complaints about inappropriate material during these videos, never to me personally but, gutlessly, through other channels," he said. This did not deter him. After investigating Honors, who was promoted to captain of his ship in May, the Penatagon has reassigned him to administrative duties..."

What a sweet guy. The only foot up his rear is his own.

Wait I'm confused, he called some on his ship a bundle of sticks?

Wow, that is offensive.

so apparently he's been making these videos for years and it only becomes a problem once he's given a command? hmmmmmmm.

Well, we'll never know now will we? He has been relieved. So I guess the lesson is better not step on any toes of the TGLGB crowd or they will get you. Great.

But we do know. A good commander doesn't make a video of stereotypical satire depicting that specific groups of military personnel and subordinates cannot control their sexual urges or eat feces.

Would you be ok if this commander made a video depicting that all military personnel from rural area's sneak off in the middle of the night to fornicate in a three way with their sister and local livestock?

Is the officer in question being punished for making gay jokes?

It's a little beyond just "making gay jokes". He produced a video depicting implied homosexual's masturbating, showering, eating feces, while using derogatory slurs against homosexuals and then distributed it as a psuedo-training video for over 6,000 military personnel to watch.

I am military personnel from a rural area and I would think it was funny. but, then again, it takes a lot to get my panties in a bunch.

I often joked that the only reason I never had sex with my sister is that I didn't have a sister.

Pseudo-training video? Where the hell did that come from. it was on ship's TV, which certainly does not make it a training video.

Actually, we put training videos on ship's TV all the time. In fact, the annual Rx training for the crew was put on the ship's TV for a week or two, on the channel dedicated to ship's training, and everyone had to watch it during that time.

And I believe that at least some of the videos were supposed to be "training" (the one that comes to mind is the shower one trying to reinforce 3 min showers). There were many other videos that haven't been released, so I don't know what they had on them.

Yes, there are training videos on ship's TV, but ship's TV has a lot of things other than training videos. Just being on ship's TV does not make it a training video. I just watched the 10ish minute long video linked in the OP, and saw nothing that looked like actual training videos. I think they might have been making fun of training vids, but that is about it.

I do agree, except for that they were reported as videos that were intended to bring attention to some issues. Which is why I would say pseudo-training videos really is a suitable term for them. Many of them weren't just for entertainment.

"The videos created onboard USS Enterprise in 2006-2007 were not created with the intent to offend anyone," the statement said. "The videos were intended to be humorous skits focusing the crew's attention on specific issues such as port visits, traffic safety, water conservation, ship cleanliness, etc."

Well that certainly raises the bar of stupid. I take it back, the XO is dumb enough to deserve to get smacked down. Driving a desk may be too complex for him.

Some people have no sense of humor.

Oh please....its about the level of maturity that we expect from our military....ESPECIALLY our military leaders. Perhaps you don't share the same high standards.
