N.J. lawmaker questions absence of Christie, lt. gov. during blizzard

Too late. I gave him donuts AND coffee. :2razz:

Well, now you did it - you'll never get rid of him. I guess I'll give Dick Codey a call but I'll bet he's in Florida too.

Cody's the man. He brought the ice melt, so got him some brick oven pizza. Christie was jealous, so I told him he could share.

Christie share? See... now I think you're pulling my leg.

Living here in N.J. and having experienced the blizzard... it wasn't as bad a past years. Him leaving isn't a big deal... sure it may be frowned upon, but who cares enough to make a big stink of it.

It looks like we have another George W. Bush in the making... Christie is a conservative hero? :lamo
Please explain the Bush 43 - Christie parallel please.

Good grief. What's he supposed to do, come back and shovel snow? I think he can give orders from Florida.
He's doing a better job the Bloomberg who is where? Problem is Bloomberg probably sold all the salt, as he's at war with it... ROTFLOL. And them snow plows... they produce emissions that cause global warming.:lamo

So did we ever find out if he left on vacation knowing the storm was coming or the storm information came after he had left? I would not expect him to go back during a storm that had not been known when he left for vacation, but if he left knowing that his state would be hit by a massive storm, then he has some explaining to do.

I don't know about New Jersey, but my son in Philly said they were predicting a dusting, then changed it to a major storm a day or two before Christmas.

I think that most are either complaining for partisan reasons, or that they don't like the man. But hat tip to you CC. You don't like him, but your response is certainly reasonable.

j-mac

Actually I'm a big fan of Christie. Just think the situation dictates he needs to get is fanny back to his office....;)

.

two questions
1- when did Governor Christie leave the state?
2- when was the big storm first forecast for New Jersey?

Several sources indicate that the Governor was warned about the incoming blizzard and the absence of his Lt. Governor but departed anyway.

YEAH!!!! What did he know about the weather, and when did he know it?

Lie much?

It wasn't supposed to be a "big storm" until the morning it hit VA and changed course....

It's a ****ing snowstorm, acting like it's katrina makes one look foolish and a partisan hack....

:doh

Weren't you all over Obama for not being close enough the gulf oil spill when he was perfectly capable of giving orders from the White House?

Holy double standards batman!

exactly, I was in VA, hampton and it went from a dusting to the biggest storm they ever had or some such nonsense. I had to wait a day to drive back and even then, it was a snowstorm for the love of god...

notice how haymarket and other liberals aren't talking about bloomberg's ill preparedness, just christies disney vacation.....

I mean I don't know whats more pathetic. bloomberg speaking spanish, or the idiot reporter asking if the plow tires were envitonmentally friendly....

2006 was worse, and the cleanup seemed slower to me. I could of cared less where Corzine was.

It was a snow storm, they happen almost every year.

Already answered, but see unlike europe, when typical weather events happen, 30,000 people don't die.

Ultimately, the complaint in this thread is stupid. Several states have had trouble cleaning up after the snow this time around, but according to what I heard on NPR this morning, it had more to do with budget cuts creating reduced capacity than any level of administrative failure.

Isn't snow removal the job of state and local governments? Do you think OUR president should usurp their power?

actually, municipalities are in charge of local streets

county, for county roads.

state for state and interstate highways with federal funding towards removal on interstate systems

sorta how hurricane cleanup is supposed to work.

I'm in Jersey. Cleanup of 30+ inches of snow happened in a timely manner, this is a total non story...

A reporter actually asked that ???? Doesn't surprise me really.

If someone wanted to bitch about politicians and snowstorms, Seattle was the place to be. Few years ago, Seattle's liberal government refused to put salt on the roads after a major snowstorm and the city was tied up for almost a week.

Seems they didn't want the salt washing into the bay. Someone forgot to tell them that the bay water was already salty.

I was all over Obama for his slow reaction to get skimmers, and anything else to clean up and keep the oil from the marshes as it was spewing out. I was all over Obama for the moratorium. When he was there it was just for photo shoots and to jump on Jindal about making him look bad in the press. He was telling people to vacation in the state to help their economy while he didn't and his wife was off taking a lavish vacation in Spain. I had the impression from Obama that the worse the spill the better for his cap and trade agenda.
The oil spill vs a blizzard = no comparison

I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt on this, mostly because I don't feel like putting the effort into dredging up old posts. However, I recall one of the chief complaints about Obama was that he didn't seem leadery enough and wasn't personally taking charge.

I feel the same way about that as I do about this. Christie should not have to personally take charge of the response, we have professional disaster management and transportation department people, who have expertise in the area, for this sort of thing. This whole thing against Christie is a stupid complaint.

Are you actually attempting to compare an oil spill with a snowstorm ????

The snow will be cleared from streets before Christie can even get a flight back to Newark. The oil spill lasted for months, the snow will only last for a few days.

Yes I am because it is bringing up the same sort of sentiment from a lot of the posters that the oil spill did.

For example, these same sort of comments were made about the oil spill only the ideologies were reversed (well not necessarily for samsmart since he is his own unique ideology)

I don't mind Christie or his policies, generally, but I do think he should be back in New Jersey during a state of emergency for the state. It doesn't look good for him, but it hardly disqualifies his policies.

If you want to justify criticism of a government's reaction to the storm, you should go across the river to New York City. People have actually died there because the streets weren't cleared in a timely fashion.
