In the theoretical sense, cattle and horses are property and are considered movable property because they be bought or sold with the land..

    Here is the history

Livestock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
You can destroy your own property. But we've taken particular interest in the fluffy, cute animals we keep as pets. But they're still property. You can buy and sell it at your leisure. You can't do that with humans. Animals don't have any rights, there are privileges we've granted to them due to our emotional attachments; but they are not rights. Only humans possess rights. Cattle and horses are property, and of course they weren't bought and sold with the land because they are not part of land property. They're a certain sect of property. Like your computer. When you sell your house, the computer doesn't come with the price. Animals are essentially the same thing, we've just attached emotion to it.

The outrage on this issue is feigned. Dogs in America are treated as property. They are bought, sold and treated as a lower species in the market. Go to any chicken farm today and you'll see animals being mistreated in the millions by corporations. But Michael Vick hurts/kills a few dogs and everybody goes bitchy when he says he may want to own some in the future? I wonder how many people go this ballistic whenever somebody convicted of theft decides he wants to buy a car.

Usually I am in agreement with you but not on this. He will be able to own a dog at the end of his probabation May2012. So he should stop the whining. His life is going pretty nice now so he should learn to remember the saying about not doing the crime if you cant do the time.
As far as I am concerned the local animal shelter should drop off a couple recent dogs that had to be put down on his front door and tell him here are your new dogs.

Yes and his real crime was gambling and not letting the government take a cut. The dogs were a sideshow. I have cats. My cats are part of my family's life. I might even say they are family members considering we didn't buy them, we adopted them from somebody who didn't want them. That however is not the story for the overwhelming majority of animals. This outrage because Vick hurt a few dogs is nothing more than scapegoating. America has a long reputation for treating animals as property. We've even treated humans as property but everyone is butt hurt because Vick sent a few dogs to early graves? Come on man. You have to realize they're sending out a message through Vick. It's okay for KFC to slaughter millions of animals for your wanton consumption every year, but kill 6-7 dogs on your own and your character will be destroyed.

I kind of see your point, I just didn't know they were doing cock-fighting at KFC.

Once again if you go through archive posts I supported Vick but I think he needs to keep the whining about having to wait until 2012 to himself.

Yup. The one thing government hates the most is not getting their cut.

I am SO indifferent to all things Micheal Vick at this point.

Okay, so he was into dog fighting. He got arrested and got the smackdown.

WTF are we still talking about it? People make more of this than if he'd beaten a child half to death.

I have never understood how a nation that loves football, boxing, and the MMA, cannot tolerate cock fights and dog fights.

I know that cock fighting and dog fighting is brutal and ruthless, but boxing and the UFC are both brutal and ruthless as well.

Maybe you're concerned that the dog or chicken will die in at end. Well that's a distinct possibility, but in the end, your thirst for violence, aggression, and bloodshed would have been quenched. The same thirst that gets quenched when you go to a MMA or boxing match. How long would the average person mourn the death of an MMA fighter. Most people I'll bet would be all to eager to see the next fighter and skip the mourning bit altogether!

In football, who doesn't like to see a running back get tackled? Who doesn't want to see a quarterback get his clock cleaned? This is especially so when the star quarterback is on the opposing team, it's the fourth quarter, your team is down by 3 pts., the other team is on the 60 yardline, and it's their 3rd down. There's only 50 seconds on the clock!

Let's just face it! There's something within most humans that yearns for aggressive entertainment. The Romans had their gladiators, lions, and all sorts of beast. We modern day humans can have just about anything we want!

Football players, MMA fighters and boxers all choose to play/fight. The animals have no choice.
