I've always thought it was weird how people focus on earmarks instead of what actually goes into the various departments. 8 Billion for earmarks is some giant waste, but the DOD spending twice that on a weapon system we'll never use doesn't get much attention.
Earmarks aren't always bad. Sometimes they're specific projects that are important and beneficial to the community.
ZOMG SOCIALISM GOVERNMENT WASTE FRAUDD.
My thoughts in redIt won't hurt them at all. You see, over all there will be criticism, but as their states benefit, they will still likely win their reelection because of the pork and not despite them.
Yep, and one of the problems with the down fall of Rome was that the people realized that they could vote themselves wealth from the treasury. When that happens, game over.

When they raise everyone's taxes to cover the cost of all these fat-porky bills you won't be laughing.
No taxes are necessary. Your trusty Federal Reserve can print dollars out the gazoo.
That's why laws are important.
Never said they weren't, but it sure does seem selective which laws Obama chooses to follow at the moment....For example, want to take over the auto industry, then ignore contract law. Want to stop your political opponent from gaining a measure that would hamper your ability to destroy the country, then cite law that you said earlier it was not.....ie: Health care penalties, not a tax, now in court are a tax....Uh huh.

No, that's just your interpetation. Because you persoanlly don;t see the law doesn't mean he has ignored any laws.
My thoughts in red
In the waning days of the lame-duck congressional session, Democrats controlling the Senate — in collaboration with a handful of old-school Republicans —[/U](whoever they are, they better be careful) are pushing to wrap $1.27 trillion worth of unfinished budget work into a single "omnibus" appropriations bill.
Their 1,900-plus-page bill comes to the floor this week stuffed with provisions sought by lawmakers. It contains thousands of pet projects known as earmarks, pushed by Democratic and GOP senators alike — despite a pledge by Republicans to give up such projects next year.
There's also $4 million sought by Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell for the Kentucky National Guard's marijuana eradication efforts and $8 million sought by GOP Sen. John Thune of South Dakota to help maintain the B-1 bomber fleet in his state.
Although their states would benefit, both Republicans oppose the bill, and McConnell said Tuesday that he has asked for his earmarks to be removed[/B].Good boys. Democrats hope to pass the measure by a midnight deadline Saturday.
'Omnibus' money bill last grab at pork

Did Obama, or did he not say that the penalty associated with not carrying a health insurance policy, was not a tax?

Oh sure - and that spurs inflation, which brings down the value of the dollar . . . and next you know we're Germany 1930.
Whether he did or not doesn't change what I said.
“How do you have any credibility on this?” — ABC’s Jonathan Karl to GOP Policy Committee Chairman John Thune (S.D.) and National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn (Texas) regarding their own earmarks in the bill
Hear! Hear!

Republican leaders know no shame these days.
“The American people said just 42 days ago, 'Enough!' . . . Are we tone deaf? Are we stricken with amnesia?” — Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)
Don't confuse the tax compromise with this bill to fund the government through the end of the 2011 fiscal year. This puppy, the last of its kind, has 6,000 earmarks totaling $8 billion tucked in $1.2 trillion in spending.
Hopefully voters will not forget. Pelosi and Reed have to go as well as anyone else who supports uncontrolled spending.
You're probably right in that there are things within the budget that I do want funded with my dollars, and to Boo's point that there are things that I don't, and that I elect reps on the basis that they support my ideals. But, even if this were to happen for say one day, everybody sends in their taxes on April 16th instead of the 15th, pay the penalty then in unified voice send the message to knock off the elitist crap! Maybe they would hear.....The phrase I like in this instance is "When the people fear the government you have tyranny, when the government fears the people, you have freedom"....

you are so funny with your selective quotes.

But the bill has been laying around collecting dust. They were put in there before the election and before any promises were made. This piece of crap has a price tag of 1.3 trillion dollars. I sure hope we can stop it from going through and just push it forward for 45 days. Give them a chance to read it and get crap out that we can do without.
That's not all they are doing, not by a long shot... which goes to show you... The Socialists have absolutely no respect for the will of the American Public.Senators load spending bill with earmarks

yes it does....Tremendously. It also shows the selective nature of when you choose to hide behind the law.
