Washington works! At least when it comes to cutting taxes. Hard to believe, but after the 2009 and 2010 stimulus bills, Barack Obama is a bigger tax cutter than W.

Excerpted from “Liberals giving up tax fight” By Michael Gleeson and Ian Swanson, The Hill, 12/14/10 02:14 PM ET
A House liberal who has led the effort to stop President Obama’s tax compromise with the GOP says efforts to change the package are futile.

Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.), who just a week ago circulated a letter signed by 54 Democrats urging opposition to the deal, now says the “die is cast.” …

And I bet when re-election time comes, you and most other conservatives won't give him any credit for it either.

I don't give anyone credit for on the job training. It's pathetic that it's come to this.

This is not a tax cut my left wing friend..Its the status quo and stops a huge tax increase if the Bush tax cuts from 2001 expire............

Psst... check Chappy's political lean....

Hey, leave me alone, I've got a head cold tonight :(

P.S. - sorry Chappy. Even so, conservatives won't give Obama any credit with regards to the tax cuts come re-election time.

Credit for what? He didn't do anything.

Yet the healthcare reform bill is called "Obamacare." How convenient for you.

Every single major news organization says one thing. apdst says another. Proving once more he doesn't really understand what he is reading.

we will give him the same credit you dems gave GHWB in 92 for compromising with the dems on tax hikes

Actually, I think you will give the same credit conservatives gave GHWB in 92 for compromising with the dems on tax hikes. GHWB was attacked just as much from the Right than he was from the Left in '92, and most of it was undeserved.

Sorta hard to call him a bigger tax cutter than W, when all he did here was refuse to raise taxes during a recession....

The Bush tax cuts expired by the law Bush signed. They're over. Kaput. Done. Fork-time™.

For the next couple of years, welcome to the Obama tax rates lowered by the law he will sign very soon now.

Now, repeat after me, thank you, President Obama.

There, that wasn't too hard.

Now go spend your Obama-windfall™.

hopefully, Obama will use the deficit commission proposal as the mechanism to revise tax deductions
government can increase tax revenue by (a)increasing rates and/or (b) eliminating deductions
looks like plan b is now in order

I didn't vote for him because he caved on taxes and guns. And the dems called him weak for compromising. That's why W didn't compromise much with the dems. HE saw what happened to his dad. And I am sure we will claim Obama is weak in 2012. Its how the game is played.

Want to know what surprised me about all this? That it was the Republicans compromising, and the liberal Democrats being ideological douche bags this time. LOL.

So not raising taxes is now called a "tax cut". LOL

Well, I guess for Democrats, it is.

Thanks for "cutting" my taxes by asking me to pay EXACTLY the same rates I've been paying for years.

I guess.

Why should he get my thanks? He GAVE UP on taxes. HAd Obama kept his filibuster-proof majority, this never would have happened. Conservatives(at least on taxes because Lieberman is hardly a conservative) were the ones that pressured his ass to the ground.

Yup, Chappy's right, he gets no "undeserved" credit from me.

So, this thread is: Liberals jumping intellectual and ideogical hoops to excuse Obama's decision to support the Bush Tax cuts while trying to laugh at conservatives for winning.

Tell a lie often enough and loud enough and it becomes truth.

THIS IS NOT A TAX CUT! It simply is maintaining the current tax rates.

Can anyone tell me what Dem speak is for an actual tax cut? You know, like, let's say I pay 15% and the government lowers it to 14%. What would they call it?

Wow, is this the same President who previously said that the Bush tax cuts were only for the wealthy? Now how that tune has changed. Nice spin, Chappy, but the reality is Obama doesn't believe in tax cuts without strings attached. Obama is a radical leftwing liberal who continues to promote wealth redistribution. What liberals don't understand is that we do not have a zero sum economy where there is a fixed pie and when you cut taxes that pie remains the same. What really happens is when you cut taxes you get a bigger pie and everyone has a chance to get a bigger piece. The pie keeps getting bigger and bigger with economic growth.

Demo Speak for anything that doesn't raise taxation, or benefits expenditure is a cut. For example, if welfare is slotted to go up by 4% in the coming year, and the repubs cancel 2% of that raise, then demo's don't say that welfare will raise by 2%, they say repubs cut welfare by 2%.....It is really disingenuous.

THIS IS NOT A TAX CUT! It simply is maintaining the current tax rates.

The current temporary tax rates are set to expire 12-31-10, as designed by legislation.

H. R. 1836

TITLE IX—COMPLIANCE WITH CONGRESSIONAL BUDGET ACT

SEC. 901. SUNSET OF PROVISIONS OF ACT.

(a) IN GENERAL.—All provisions of, and amendments made by, this Act shall not apply—

(1) to taxable, plan, or limitation years beginning after December 31, 2010, or

(2) in the case of title V, to estates of decedents dying, gifts made, or generation skipping transfers, after December 31, 2010.

To continue the current temporary tax rates new legislation has to be passed and signed. Current legislation will soon be history, gone , kaput, over and done.

New legislation, containing tax cuts and signed by President Barrack Obama, will then be law.

I smile every time the cons refer to the health care act as "Obamacare" and hope it sticks. Can you imagine 60 years from now and someone carrying a sign in a town hall meeting to keep the government out of my 'Obamacare'....LOL.
