My tax situation whether I owe the government or received a refund is none of your concern.
Second, the EIC has nothing to do with this debate.
Third, if you truly have a problem with the government taking on the responsibility to care for the needy in this country, I would highly recommend that you and others who take such a strong anti-compassionate stance to go down to a soup kitchen, the Salvation Army, the Red Cross, your local AMVETS society or any other local charity and either donate your time, your money or a portion of your material wealth. I'm willing to bet you're no different than most anyone else in that your only contribution to those in need has either been:
a) pay via taxation.
b) write a check or stuff a box or metal bucket with a few coins or a couple of dollars (if that).
c) walk on by and say it's someone else problem; I've done my part - I work and pay my taxes!
Yet, you carry so much resentment towards those who haven't achieved what you've achieved and lump them all in this big group that says, "low wage earner = lazy ass!" So, I ask when was the last time you took someone you viewed as "under-privilaged", mentored him or her, taught them how to do for themselves in order to be responsible and provide for himself? You and others who share your point of view come across as someone who honestly believes that the only contribution the wealthy have to those who aren't within their income bracket is to give them a job and pay them a wage. But is it a living wage? Can the average person today make a living - that is pay rent/mortgage, afford even a 2nd-hand car, pay their utility bill, buy groceries - and move themselves forward thereby improving their station in life? The answer is no.
Everyone needs a helping hand. Even the wealthiest among us will tell you they didn't get there alone. The "work" they put in to amass their wealth includes seeking the aid of others which is many cases involved (wait for it...) obtaining a small business loan from the government perhaps? = putting some of YOUR tax dollars to work so that others can take that gamble to either succeed or fail depending on the decisions they make to market their idea be it a product or service. Or how about borrowing that money from a bank - an entity that clearly has more wealth than the next guy and is in business to loan money in order to (wait for it...) make money. Or what about venture capitalist or borrowing money from friends and family, or doing things the old fashioned way (which I'm surprised still works for some) and saving and saving and saving until you've set aside all the initial financing you need to open doors for yourself. That's how it use to be done and I'm sure many people still do it that way, but not everyone does. Why? Because it's hard! But it's far more "convenient" to take out a loan and run the risk with OPM - Other People's Money.
My advice to yourself, sir, and others who truly harbor such ill-will towards others who are less fortunate than yourselves: stop, become a mentor, teach others your ways so that they can ascend to the level of success you apparently have attained instead of being so damned bitter. But most of all "Seek first to understand and then be understood." Not every homeless person is homeless of their own choosing. Not every person who is poor is poor because they are lazy. Some just don't know how to move themselves from one station to the next. If you want to end poverty, the best thing we all can do is help lift up our fellow man. So, if you want government to stop misusing your tax dollars, become part of the solution! Put your time, knowledge and skills where your mouth is. Teach the next one your ways if you believe them to be so noble.

Oh...btw, for those who are interested...
Since the thread topic is about nutrition and healthy eating, I found this website that allows you to select say a family farm or organic diner, for example, in your area. I know...that's what the Yellow Pages are for, but I thought it was a decent website and wanted to share. I won't give the name because it would be promoting (I hope I haven't violated a forum rule, but if so, mods feel free to remove this post), but if you're interested just click on the link above.
