Now that's if you do nothing. You need to add the calories burned for your running to the calorie total. Lets say you burn 1000 calories running, you would need to eat 3439 to maintain current weigth, and you would need to eat 2439 calories to lose 2 lbs per week.

Maximum is 3lbs.... 923 per day. that would be 1923 if you are running a 1000 calorie run..... So you are right at the cusp, if you go under that 923 calorie threshold, or 1923 threshold with your running, you are putting your body in starvation mode and you will struggle to lose weight...

And if you want to really change body comp:

Cut out grains, dairy, sugar, and all processed foods.
I'm 5'9 and just under 200. My dietician wants me at 170. She says I should eat 1900 calories a day, but upped it due to my activity level. I have one glass of milk a day. Avoid sugars (some natural sugars are ok, but limit even natural sugars). My medical doctor and weight doctor say dieting screwed up my metabolism, and that I have a huge metabolic hurddle to climb. The trainer says he has nothing for me as i already do more than he'd give me. I just know I work hard, and did lose a ton of weight, but it appears my active life early on hurts as much as it helps.

From what I gather, soda, even diet soda, really effects weight in a negative way.

build muscle as well. maintaining muscle requires calories burning... even when on the couch eating ring dings.

You can reset your metabolism anytime by switching up what you eat. check out that whole 30. It really works... (I go on and off it as needed, I love me some bread, beer, etc...)

You can't reset your age metabolism, it naturally slows, but you most definatley can reset any habits your body learned about storing calories.

It's not their responsibilty to tell people what to eat.
Well at least not until they became responsible for health care.

Who's forcing anyone to eat anything? It's giving kids the choice... I thought choice was a good thing...

My habits have changed. Though I always ate good food, just a lot of it (a couple of pounds of grapes a day back when, for example). Not sure what you mean by the whole 30 thing.

Click the whole9 life link. It's a paleo diet 30 day challenge. it's something to check out.

    basically:

    The Whole30 Program, As Outlined

Eat real food – meat, fish, eggs, tons of vegetables, some fruit, and plenty of good fats. Eat foods with very few ingredients, all pronounceable ingredients, or better yet, no ingredients listed at all because they’re natural and unprocessed.

More importantly, here’s what NOT to eat during the duration of your Whole30 program. Omitting all of these foods and beverages will help you regain your healthy metabolism, reduce systemic inflammation, and help you discover how these foods are truly impacting your health, fitness and quality of life.

Do not consume added sugar of any kind, real or artificial. No maple syrup, honey, agave nectar, Splenda, Equal, Nutrasweet, xylitol, stevia, etc. Read your labels, because companies sneak sugar into products in all kinds of ways.
Do not eat processed foods. This includes protein shakes, pre-packaged snacks/meals, protein bars, milk substitutes, etc.
Do not drink alcohol, in any form.
Do not eat grains. This includes (but is not limited to) wheat, rye, barley, millet, oats, corn, rice, sprouted grains and all of those gluten-free pseudo-grains like quinoa. (Yes, we said corn!) This also includes all the ways we add wheat, corn and rice into our foods in the form of bran, germ, starch and so on. Again, read your labels.
Do not eat legumes. This includes beans (black, kidney, lima, etc.), peas, lentils, and peanuts or peanut butter. This also includes all forms of soy – soy sauce, miso, tofu, tempeh, edamame, and all the ways we sneak soy into foods (like lecithin).
Do not eat dairy. This includes all cow, goat or sheep’s milk, cream, butter, cheese, yogurt, whey, ice cream, etc.
Do not eat white potatoes. It’s arbitrary, but they are carbohydrate-dense and nutrient poor, and also a nightshade.
Most importantly… do not try to shove your old, unhealthy diet into a shiny new Whole30 mold. This means no “Paleo-fying” less-than-healthy recipes – no “Paleo” pancakes, “Paleo” pizza, “Paleo” fudge or “Paleo” ice cream. Don’t mimic poor food choices during your Whole30 program!
One last and final rule. You are not allowed to step on the scale for the duration of your Whole30 program. This is about so much more than just weight loss, and to focus only on your body composition means you’ll miss out on the most dramatic (and lifelong) benefits this plan has to offer. Give yourself a well-deserved, long overdue break from fixating on that number on the scale! Absolutely NO weighing yourself or taking comparative measurements during your Whole30.

President Barack Obama will be accompanied by his wife, Michelle, as he signs the bill. The ceremony is scheduled to take place Monday at a District of Columbia elementary school.
The $4.5 billion bill would expand free school meals for the low-income students and give the government the power to make them healthier. The government will decide what kinds of foods may be sold in vending machines, lunch lines and fundraisers during school hours.
Supporters say the law is needed to stem rising health care costs because of growing childhood obesity and also to feed more hungry children in tough economic times. Some Republicans contend the measure is too expensive and an example of government overreach.

I guess the Republicans failed to stop it.
No more fundraising from bake sales. Is big government going to also pay for things that the bakesales usually pay for? Or should they switch to apple and spinach sales?
I still don't understand why they're using the school-meal system to feed kids AFTER SCHOOL. .. this si my understanding, anyway - that the *school cafeterias* will provide all 3 meals - and snacks.
In some areas they already just GIVE kids food at school to take home to their families.

That's what food-stamps, wic and other programs are for - what's wrong with just fixing and improving THOSE systems that ARE in place.

That's what stuns me about our government - no matter WHO is in charge - instead of just using what's in place already for a particular purpose they'll create an all new thing to serve the same purpose or commandeer something else to satisfy the same purpose.
