Blasts rock Swedish capital

More excuses? More of the sam ole PC crap about how, "every religion has it's nutjobs"?

No excuses, just reality, much as I wish it were not so. Do you think anyone likes the fact that there are terrorists around? You act as if you're the only one who cares. You couldn't be more wrong. I wish they would all disappear, the religious and the secular alike. I want the Islamists gone as much as I want ETA gone once and for all. Unfortunately, I've long lost the hope that it will ever happen. We'll get rid of one group and another one will pop up. You know why? Because what they do ****ing works. It has been working for centuries and it will keep on working for a long time to come. Making people scared will never go out of style.

The reason we can't get rid of them is the same reason why we can't get rid of inner-city type gangs, the various Mafias and mobs and violent organized crime in general. They all use terror very effectively and there is nothing we've been able to do about it so far, other than to take out one or two localized cells here and there.

But, hey you keep right on dreaming. I hear all the crap is a lot easier to bear that way.

The one dimensional views abound. The dogmatic righties attribute Islamist terrorism entirely as a reaction to who we are, conflate Islamism with the religion of Islam in order to implicate all Muslims and don't really analyze much of anything since they are simply in the business of repeating what others say. The dogmatic leftists attribute terrorism only to what we do, rationalize the basic act in a similar fashion to how Islamists rationalize it, conflate Islamism with the religion of Islam by defending the former under the misguided notion they ar defending the latter and don't really analyze much of anything since they are simply in the business of repeating what others say.

Americans are more prone to the right wing dogmatism, while Western Europeans are more prone to the left wing dogmatism. Each regards any actual moderate view as being an indication of thier opposite as the true moderates (at least the intelligent ones) realize we are hated for both who we are and what we do, the hatred for who we are clouding the judgement in regards to the way we are perceived in regards to what we do.

The issue here is one of totalitarianism and how we respond to it. Those who act as apologists for it (and I have seen dozens upon dozens in these forums over the years) are just as clueless as those who would kill them all and let God sort it out.

I suppose you're right. I just wish I saw more of those retarded leftwing apologists to balance out the moronic rightwing ones. At least then it wouldn't all seem so one sided all the time. Maybe I've just been lucky to not have seen very many of those leftwing posts here. Except for those who are not and get accused of it regardless.

Of course it is America's problem. It is a world problem.

Islamists are already changing the nature of the dynamic between Western Europe and America, driving a wedge between us by manipulating Western European perceptions. Their goal is a totalitarian state governed by Islam, and they see Europe as a potential springboard towards such. They are well organized, find strength through common purpose, and are adept at exploiting situations to their advantage. The actual terrorist acts are just the tip of a bigger iceburg, as the terrorism is only a means to an end. It is that end we should be focussing on, as none of us stand alone here. Sure, the strength of the anti-Americanism indulged in by so many might make you want to turn your back on them, but some in Europe are starting to wake up. The Dutch and Danes are not as disposed towards mindless apologia as they used to be, and maybe the Swedes will start to figure things out, too. Sure, people don't understand the threat of totalitarianism until it is right on top of them, and all the social conditioning and denial can be tough to overcome, but I think we should ALL be fighting Islamism. It is the biggest threat the world has faced in quite some time.

I'm not sure the dynamic is changing. I think what's going on is that we have a lot more contact with Muslims here in Europe than the average American ever does, outside of the Dearborn area. We can put what we read in the news in perspective, because we have first hand experience that the ones who make the headlines are not the norm. We're not as scared of them, because we live right alongside them and have been doing so for decades. They're our friends, neighbors, even family. That said, we're not stupid either. All over Europe people are sounding little alarm bells and are fighting extremism back in small but symbolically significant ways. There's a lot more to reality than what your media chooses to report about what's going on over here.

Reality doesn't sell well :2razz:

You are the one making excuses to target a minorty. People like you need an enemy to justify your existence it seems..

What "minority"? He's talking about the entire world, not just one country where Muslims would be a minority.

You, yourself, go a long way to doing exactly what he says by calling them a "minority" and thus by implication excusing them, or at the very least making reference to some kind of oppression of them.

Islam is the largest, fastest growing religion in the world. That means, they're not a, "minority". By the actual definition of minority. I'm fully aware that minority also has it's PC definition, which is, "anyone who isn't white, American, nor Christian".

Make them vanish? No, that'll never happen. However, your, "what the hell can I do about it?", attitude only insures that they will be able to operate, almost unimpeded, within their own community.

Pete is talking about the nutjobs. Or are they the majority now?

Why haven't you personally killed the people who bomb abortion clinics?

That's exactly my point.

However, to answer your question, I've never run across any abortion clinic bombers, otherwise my answer my be quite different.

A religion, that is the majority religion, is the religion that has the most nutjobs. It's up to the people within that religion to police up all those clowns and get rid of them. Their failure to do so indicates that they may disagree with the method, but are fully on-board with the motives and rationale behind those actions.

I don't think so. Why would anyone object to "targeting" the nutjobs, or need to make "excuses" for it? Aren't they the appropriate target?

No, he's talking about "targeting" Muslims in general.

The Muslim community as a whole can't really do much about Muslim extremists. Do you take time out of your day to bother about who your neighbor is ****ing? I mean most Catholics don't expect their clergy to be f'n with their kids and yet, there they are, f'n with the kids. In the views of apdst, Muslims are not normal people. They are not like you and I who would go to a place, work, eat, pray etc etc with a lot of people and then not really give two ****s about what it is they do outside of our interactions with them. It's quite sad to see a black man with such an Eurocentric view of the world. Think of it this way, how many times have you seen a Christian on this board argue that Christians as a whole must be on the look out for Christian pedophiles, murderers and rapists? Not ever.

It's the sociological hypocrisy of the Western world, we are to be treated individuals, they are to be treated as groups.

My attitude is certainly not "what the hell can I do about it". My attitude is we will never get rid of terrorism. It's always been around and always will be. We may very well be able to get rid of one or two groups of terrorists and, if we're lucky, Islamists will be one of them. Don't think for one second that it'll be the last we see of terrorism even if we do. I've been alive long enough to know that. My attitude is to never under any circumstances, give in to the fear and never, ever negotiate with them. This weakens them more than any military operation ever could. Killing them simply doesn't work, as others will take their place. Weakining their resolve by not giving them what they want is much more effective.

How many times do you have to be told that Islam is not a centralized religion? There are no popes or cardinals or bishops -- just imams and individual congregations.

Their failure to do so indicates that they may disagree with the method, but are fully on-board with the motives and rationale behind those actions.

Just like our failure to get rid of all those clowns indicates that we are fully on-board with the motives and rationale behind those actions, right?

Why did you quote me with this?

That makes zero sense considering that the majority of victims of Islamic terrorism are Muslim themselves.

Didn't we already have this conversation? It so feels like deja-vu....

Apdst doesn't really care about facts or logic. This is a person who constantly complains about the homogenous American government policing human behavior and now with the same face is telling us that a group as culturally and ethnically diverse as Muslims is supposed to spend its time wondering about who is going to plant a bomb next. Hypocrisy at its finest.

I almost feel like asking him why he's not doing anything about all those black criminals I keep hearing about. The news keeps telling me how dangerous they are. Why isn't the black community doing anything about this problem?

PS: I keed. But still... no really I keed.. ;)

HELLO!! Who's the enemy here, Apdst or the suicide bomber?!

Arcana, I think your point about the influence of the media is spot on. Too many people are embroiled in watching the news and getting all of their "facts" from t.v. personalities who are just opinionated individuals with air time.

I've found it far more useful to go through periods where I have a media blackout; that is, I don't read the news, go online, or even come to places like DP. There is just too much spin and people really need to start tuning it out and grounding themselves in reality again. The media in some ways is just one big distraction and it is preventing people from realizing what is important in their immediate communities.

That is quote worthy.
