Wikileaks founder Julian Assange arrested in London

Well said, Mr. Olbermann.

I've never even listened to Keith Olberman, Erod. I have no idea what station broadcasts his rhetoric. I don't know what his positions are.

I'm not even a liberal.

I'm just an American who understands how important our bill of rights is, and has maintained some rationality about this topic, rather than going unhinged.

I know that such subtleties are difficult for you to comprehend in your black/white world. Try.

Look, if you throw out a "Glenn Beck" accusastion, I assume you must know something about him. And if you do, then logic tells me you probably know something about his antithesis, Keith Olbermann.

Meanwhile, you go on the personal attacks every response, calling me stupid or lathering me with your "do you read what you post" or "erod's not up on his subjects" or whatever insults you can muster.

That's fine because that's 80 percent of what this forum is. A liberal version of the crips that likes to pounce in numbers.

And that's fine. I'm sitting in my big chair making money while I'm doing this. I put my hard time in long ago. And I've watched you guys muddle around in your misery for many years, and you always finish dead last. And I mean that as a general "you", not you specifically, Catz. I don't aim to insult you personally, as you obviously do me.

Your assumption failed.

Meanwhile, you go on the personal attacks every response, calling me stupid or lathering me with your "do you read what you post" or "erod's not up on his subjects" or whatever insults you can muster.

Your posts make it clear that you don't understand our laws, you don't understand the rights of foreign nationals, you don't understand the role of the first amendment in protecting the freedom of the press, and you don't understand the difference in role between the leaker (Private Benning) and the guy who published the leaks (Assange).

Furthermore, you entered this and other threads with a misguided goal of attacking Obama, attacking liberals generically, and basically raving like a partisan shill.

IF YOU ACT LIKE YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE SUBJECT, AND YOUR POSTS ARE FULL OF PARTISAN RANTING THAT SHOWS YOU HAVE ZERO UNDERSTANDING OF THE SUBJECT AND ARE JUST BEATING A DRUM FOR ENTERTAINMENT VALUE, YOU SHOULD NOT GET PEEVISH WHEN PEOPLE POINT OUT THAT YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.

Your posts here are not thoughtful. They demonstrate zero grasp of the subject. You make amateurish mistakes and can't even remember (or demonstrate familiarity with) the key actors in this situation (Benning, Assange, etc.). You can't seem to distinguish between Wikileaks and unaffiliated/unorganized/uninvolved hackers who are attacking certain connected institutions. You don't show a basic familiarity with our laws and systems of governance.

If you want to be taken seriously, Erod, you have to spend at least a little time familiarizing yourself with the subject matter and posting in a thoughtful way.

Jesus.

That's fine because that's 80 percent of what this forum is. A liberal version of the crips that likes to pounce in numbers.

Oh, poor Erod, being beaten verbally by forum gang members. Being held accountable for your words IS NOT BEING VICTIMIZED.

And that's fine. I'm sitting in my big chair making money while I'm doing this.

And you think I'm not? Lulz.

Moderator's Warning:
Both of you knock it off.

Lulz at Catz..."Benning." The name is Manning. I hate it when I transpose people's names like that.

Actually, from what I understand part of what motivated him was an incident where he alerted his superiors to the fact that individuals Iraqi police had the U.S. military detain as "insurgents" distributing "insurgent literature" were simply disseminating an article criticizing corruption in Maliki's administration, but was told to shut up and that they should be helping the Iraqis get more detainees.

Wikileaks leaker angry over treatment of gays by military - National Law Enforcement | Examiner.com

:doh

Sorry, I just happen to think someone who exposures war crimes, corruption, and abuses of power is more deserving of recognition than those who simply kill the people their government says are bad.

I find this pitiful, your disdain for service members is noted.

Truly the days where just the charge is enough....I bet you believe that one must prove themselves innocent of a particular charge too don't you?

j-mac

Huh? The charge alone has never been enough in this country. Our nations motto is "innocent until proven guilty" when it comes to such charges. So mind explaining your post a bit? Or did you direct it at the wrong person?

So one of the leakers was a kid who was depressed because his boyfriend dumped him so he lashed out? Good lord. Try getting drunk and leaving pathetic messages on his answering machine next time. It's just as embarrassing but carries a lesser sentence.

Predicition: Liberals will be wearing "Che"-like shirts one day in honor of Julian Assange.

He is EXACTLY like today's American lefties. If Obama was still a community organizer in Rev. Wright's church, he would fully support Assange. They're cut from the same cloth.

Haha, now they're comparing him to Che Guevara. You can't make this **** up, I wonder what they'll come up with next.

You guys should collectively form a comedy show, you could open for Glenn Beck.

I do not doubt that he was angry about such a policy as any gay man would be, but your claim that he was leaking information because he was angry about don't ask don't tell is baseless slander.

I find this pitiful, your disdain for service members is noted.

I have no disdain for people who join the military. I do have disdain for war and the act of killing in general. Are you telling me you do not?

Depends on how they will react to us. Have you noticed any difference in how other countries are treating us? I sure haven't.

......
This has to be the stupidest comment of the thread.

How the hell would you know? Are you privy to all the communications and interactions between USA officials and officials of other countries?

Well, we're already preparing a celebration honoring Sgt. Manning in Berkley. Assange will be spoken of in great regard by the same types for years to come. I guarantee it.

Dire as he is, they lack sufficient risibility.

Umm...you DO know that there are more people in a country than just thier government right? You also DO know that those other countries also have news media that we have access to right?

Try thinking outside the box a bit ok?

i think that wikileaks should stop publishing until they have a more transparent and developed method of reviewing classified documents that they know won't jeopardize innocents. Do you think that it's safe for a group of hackers to deem what's safe and unsafe?

Actually thier method is based on themselves AND the news agencies that they send the info to. For example: when the NY Times recieved the Pentagon Papers from wikileaks the NY Times also vetted the material before publishing. From what I can understand the papers were not released until after it was vetted by the news agencies that it was sent to also. I would have to say that that is a pretty good vetting process.

Granted I don't know if it is still that way. But to me it doesn't really matter who vets it. And the fact that they are former hackers means nothing to me also. The material that they send out now was not obtained via hacking (at least on their part..not sure of Mannings part) so the fact that they were hackers previously is immaterial.

If it were "baseless" i wouldnt have given you a link. Face it your boy was upset about dadt and decided the best way to be a gay activist was to commit treason.

He needs to be hung.

Gay activist? Where's the evidence for that :S

Haha, hanging him. You have high class, I'll give you that much .

Even if I conceded that he's some sort of evil America-hater the most I'd roll for is 15 years. But I don't, I think he should be lauded as a national hero, and Assange an international hero.

Do I really need to link to the numerous articles yet again?

Uhm the penalty for treason at a time of war is death. He betrayed not only his country but his fellow soldiers.

He needs to swing like the treasonous dog that he is.

Assface needs a bullet in his face anus.

No, but there are 43 pages in this thread, think you could tell me which pages you linked them on? Thanks a lot!

Really? This is a debate? It seems to be a healthy discussion... but okay, whatever floats your boat.

Uhm the penalty for treason at a time of war is death. He betrayed not only his country but his fellow soldiers.

I didn't dispute that, I said what I think he should get if I bought your argument, ergo "Even if I conceded that he's some sort of evil America-hater the most I'd roll for is 15 years"

He needs to swing like the treasonous dog that he is.

"Until 1961, the last military execution to date, hanging was the sole and official method. Later, the military introduced the electric chair, which was never used.[4] Currently, lethal injection is the sole method.[2]"

Assface needs a bullet in his face anus.

The Espionage Act has never been successfully used in this context before. Also, the last people to be executed for espionage were the Rosenbergs in 1953, I doubt they'll break this roll without some actual evidence of significant harm caused. Also, since the Act, the Rosenbergs(who had a role equivalent to Pvt. Manning, by the way), further expansion of free speech has taken place, which could be an issue. Also, the federal government doesn't use death by firing squad. Also, firing squads don't aim for your ass, or your face, or your ass-face. Also, most nations in Europe (where he is) have rules against the death penalty, so that could make extradition problematic with that punishment still on the table. Also, the 1961 treaty between Sweden and the United States lists the offenses that qualify for extradition, and espionage is not among them. Also, this:

Article said:
"To the extent there are gaps in our laws," Holder continued, "we will move to close those gaps, which is not to say . . . that anybody at this point, because of their citizenship or their residence, is not a target or a subject of an investigation that's ongoing." He did not indicate that Assange is being investigated for possible violations of the Espionage Act.

Also, Sweden can't extradite him until the business with the sex crimes allegations
that he's wanted for questioning over are cleared up. Also, Sweden isn't full of **** (I consider this to be the greatest obstacle to your plan to kill Assange)

You have an innumerable amount of serious obstacles to getting him shot in his assface. Unless you mean something extrajudicial.
