The level of classification and whether it should be classified is irrelevant. The information is classified and being released to damage US interests.

You made the claim. You can of course back up that it's the "left" claiming it, and not just a few nuts?

Oh. So, if we classified the type of underwear that lady gaga wears, and some newspaper leaked it, could we prosecute them?

Doesn't matter really. I believe in the rule of law and if he has achieved 'classified' files illegally and has published them then by all means, the law should nail him. He's not superior to any other person and should serve his time in prison like any other criminal of the same magnitude would, politics being irrelevant here.

Those documents are US state property, the illegal achievement of those documents is theft and the publishing of them is spying.

That nut was an advisor to the President and worked in this Administration. Are you claiming that he doesn't support that claim. Are you claiming that wasn't the argument from Democrats after 9/11 and after the invasion of Iraq? You seem to have a very selective memory.

Depends. Did the newspaper solicit people to obtain the information? Did the paper encourage or help people to break the law in obtaining and leaking the information? If the answer is yes, then yes we should. Prosecuting lawbreakers is one of those things I support.

I'm just not sure that what he's done is, in international terms, illegal. Or, if we have any standing to prosecute him. He's not a U.S. citizen. Just because something is damaging to our national interests does not necessarily make it illegal. It may be, but I'm not sure what our rights are in this scenario. I don't believe that they are nearly as clearcut as you think they are.

If they were, we'd have already issued warrants for his arrest and/or convened a grand jury, even in absentia.
