North Korea supposedly is going to launch more attacks against the free world.

Seoul, South Korea (CNN) -- South Korea's spy chief said Wednesday that there is a high chance that North Korea will attack again following a strike last month that has led to renewed tensions on the peninsula, the Yonhap news agency reported.

South Korean lawmaker Rhee Beum-Kwan quoted National Intelligence Service chief Won Sei-hoon as making the prediction, Yonhap reported.

"North Korea pushed for reckless actions as internal complaints grew over its hereditary power succession and economic situations worsened," the lawmaker quoted Won as saying.

Meanwhile, South Korea and the United States wrapped up joint military exercises on the Yellow Sea, while South Korea carried on with plans for artillery firing drills next week amid simmering tensions with Pyongyang.

This is South Korea's problem. America should stay out of this.

Great idea go all weak kneed and limp wristed and ignore the facts.

The United States and Korea are allied by the 1953 Mutual Defense Treaty.

We are obligated to stand with them as we are with many other Nations.

I know that it is not important to the "Firsters" that we live up to our commitments, but as a Nation we have to ignore the weak kneed, and live up to them.

The North needs to be struct down if they attack again, but it will not happen because Obama is in over his head and has no guts unless it has to do with destroying the Constitution and going against the will of 'WE THE PEOPLE."

Other than that he's a coward, so if the north attacks a little or a full on resumption of the war, Obama will just bow to the Chinese, and drag out a teleprompter so he'll know what to say next.

Ok cool. Glad to see you completely understand the world, you wise wise person. I'm sure letting one of the top 20 economies in the world, collapse because of war without support won't have a knock on effect at all to you... or Japan... or China... or anyone. Yep completely isolated and we shouldn't care.

A well thought out and intelligent argument, I'm proud of you.

1. Soon America will no longer have an economy with the ruthless efficiency necessary to produce the economic wherewithal to project power into China's back yard. The industrial capacity, unity and general level of education and skill have declined. America's reservoir of physical, financial and human capital is declining. America needs to husband it's strenth instead of jousting with windmills.

2. If America gets into another war the divisions between left and right will inevitably lead to politicization of the conflict and dead Americans.

3. Barack Obama is the Commander In Chief. Imo he'll screw up and get lots of Americans killed before he retreats.

It is only within America's power to save itself if it plays it's cards right. America must avoid non-existential military conflict at all costs.

Are there reasons why you disagree? Is so, would you please share them with me. Thanks.

The people of South Korea must be defended against the Tyrannical and clearly mentally challenged leadership of North Korea, I'd be the first to sign up to go over and defend South Korea, and if possible, to topple the North Korean regime and bring freedom to the people of North Korea, who have been living in an extra-ordinary human disaster, which has lasted too long.

Compare the military rankings, and you will find that South Korea can defend itself against NK, except on nukes. If the South Koreans want nukes that's their business. World Military Strength Ranking

You are clearly underestimating the strength of North Korea, the initial border is highly likely to be overrun. They've been preparing for this, for over 50 years, they're ready, and the North will send over a million souls over that border, including what will be, the most intense artillery fire since World War II.

They're gonna need help...

Assume solely for the sake of argument that what you have said is true. Why should Americans die for South Koreans?

The time for empire is over. Give it up. Time to come home and try to save what's left of the country.

Your sense of American superiority is appalling and embarassing. You should be ashamed.

If there is a war between NK and SK, it would be in America's best interest to help their ally. America is not yet ready to give up their throne and the repercussions would be too great if the world percieves America's alliances as nothing more than empty threats.

I think America couldn't fight it's way out of a paper bag considering the mental state of the American people. You can't send Americans to fight when the American people are so bitterlly divided. It doesn't work.

So, you don't think it is important for the U.S. to live up to its treaty committments? You think it is ok to cede influence in the East and Southeast Asia region to China and its proxies? Have you learned ANYTHING from history? Anything AT ALL!!! China is already putting itself in the same class as Nazi Germany; are you willing to allow it to go further unchallenged? Insanity!!!

America is at war with itself. We now use our foreign wars for domestic political purposes. This being the case, it makes sense to avoid military conflict.

If the nations of East Asia wish to avoid domination by the Chinese they should develop their own nuclear weapons, or buy them from Pakistan or North Korea.

With the exception of Taiwan, the other democracies of this region are party to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, something that the U.S. has insisted upon with the guarantee that U.S. friends in this region would be under the U.S. nuclear umbrella. The U.S. has treaty obligations to Korea and by international law is bound to uphold it. As has already been pointed out, the reputation of the U.S. in this part of the world is generally quite good, especially in the region's democracies and some non-democracies that are in China's shadow. No single state in this part of the world can stand up to China in the long term. The U.S. is necessary to maintain the balance. If the U.S. withdraws from this region of the world and China gains hegemony, do you think China will stop there? If you think so, you are as blind to the reality of the situation as the pro-China set...

Everything said in your post is true. But that doesn't change one thing.

America cannot effectively deal with any foreign power because of our paralyzing political divisions. These divisions will have to be given time to play out. We are engaged in a form of nonviolent civil war.

Pax Americana is over. Defend yourselves or accept Pax Sinica.

America's hands are tied.

There will be no Pax Sinica... it will become a long drawn out contest that the U.S. will have to deal with or it itself will have to succomb to the Chinese Dragon. Sadly, Americans are doing more to feed that dragon than anyone else...

China will leave America alone within it's borders because the Chinese avoid chaos. Nothing is worse than chaos. America can't be conquered and it can't be governed.

I think we have heard something like this before.... 1937???

America is much more stable now than it was in the past. The "divide" is merely a propoganda concocted by the GOP as a last resort to keep their dying party from being completely extinguished. There's always been public unrest in America. Read history.

Why do you have this false notion that America was somehow a big happy family up until this point? Forgot the Civil War? Forgot segregation and slavery? Forgot the depression? Stop looking out of rose colored glasses and get with reality.

The correct historical analogy is not to Munich in 1937 CE, but to Rome in 410 CE.

Not quite... Rome was an empire in which it conquered peoples and ruled directly over them. Amazing how often I have seen the U.S. compared to Imperial Rome when there are simply too many DIFFERENCES between them for them to be comparable. America is not an empire in that way. Its wealth largely comes from its own land and people, not from colonies like Rome did. If a country dared thumb its nose at Rome, Rome would conquer it and incorporate it into its empire. Good thing for France that the U.S. doesn't follow a similar policy.

No, A.D. 1937 is the more appropriate analogy as China is looking for more living space much in the same way Nazi Germany did. Only that the Chinese are more patient than the Germans are. They are willing to wait until they have a clear advantage if they can get it. Germany didn't wait long enough.

So, you don't think it is important for the U.S. to live up to its treaty committments?

Without doubt, even noting the current political divisions, the U.S. would live up to its mutual defense obligations were South Korea invaded. Otherwise, both U.S. credibility (far beyond security matters) and security would both be shattered.
