Republicans block child nutrition bill

John......? My post?

I dunno in my mind we cancelled eachother out, I am having a hard time thinking of much more. As for you Red Crow, I think I've addressed what you have said plenty of times, your attitude seems to be if parents are to dumb to do whats right, **** the kid anyways.

Huh? Your answers to all my questions were essentially "I dunno".

I'll try one more time. If all the suggestions by the government to eat healthy food doesn't work (and it already hasn't worked, so why spend billions more dollars on something that won't work), then what? What's the next step to get people to eat healthy?

The first lady could have salad bars installed in schools... oh...wait.... nevermind :ninja:

Attention John WOlin!!!!

Look at our conversations, this is what I previously answered you:
If the government was so interested in the kids health, THEY should be interested AGAINST abortion.
Please take your time reading my statements. Liberals are baby killers since they support abortion. Thank God I am not a Liberal.

Read and follow conversations, some of your questions have been answered already.

Oh yeah - that really showed 'em

You know who has to care for all the many kids that are born unwanted - or are abused by their "loving parents?"
THE GOVERNMENT

Who has to feed these kids, cloth them, provide them healthcare when their parents DON'T DO IT?
THE GOVERNMENT

(Yeah - but let's insist we bear more children to the lower-class - who will then just become unwanted and unloved burdens of the state and GOVERNMENT)

The solution to the abortion-issue is often cited to be adoption.
But there aren't millions of wealthy straight couples able and willing to adopt - but there are gays!! Lots of em, too - but they can't adopt, can they? Nope? Why? Because of REPUBLICANS.

And when it comes to saving lives - well - what better way to do it for some than to conduct stem-cell research to cure their dibilitating diseases - which is opposed by THE REPUBLICANS.

And of course we can't forget all the many many conservative and Republican women who've had abortions  or all the many republicans who are in the military kiling as we speak - can't forget all them.

What was your point, again? Trying to make this a partisan-hackery issue or something? ANY issue can be twisted into a partisan-hack job when it's not that simple (as my snide points clearly show)

Well when I was a kid, if I didn't do something right the first time I was beat until I acted right but you can't do that anymore nor would I suggest it. I dunno honestly, like you said you do what you can, the government can only do so much, when it comes down to it, it becomes an issue out of both our hands, and an issue of we need to make healthy food cheaper, or show parents and others that healthy food is cheaper in the long run at least than the unhealthy alternative.

I prefer not to go down the road of beating kids... not cool and I don't want to hit my girls for any reason... We teach our girls that healthy food is important for them to grow and that things like McDonald's are for occasional treats... my elder daughter's godfather is a doctor and he completely endorsed our view on this and talked to our girls about this as well (our girls both love him and his wife - so that helps) and we model that in our own lives. Also, my girls see me compete as an athlete and they want to do the same... they see the medals and trophies in my display case and they want to do the same... helps us to give another platform to drive home the importance of healthy eating and good nutrition. Though my girls are only 6 and 5, they know they have to eat fruit, veggies and lean, protein-rich meats along with their rice and bread... only occasional treats, and they are fine with that... kids will model their parents ACTIONS, not words...

Well that is excellent, it really is, but being a good parent and teaching good habits isn't the issue, it is the issue of the parents that don't, and the schools having the right choices in the first place.

I don't mind the right choices being available in the schools, but I like to have CHOICES, not federal government dictates... I don't want to see the federal government continue to bloat in a way that was never intended... this is a state and local issue, NOT a federal one...

So says the one stationed in Taiwan, "I like to have choices, not government dictates." - Did you know that the government dictates and determines your food-choices that are available in the mess hall and your MRE's by a strict calorie-intake checklist? did you know that your estimated calorie intake is high enough to keep a chubby kid happy? . . yours is calculated based on your rigorous workload and is excessively high.

The only time they don't care is when you eat fast food - because they know the calorie content is sufficient for your increased workload, and they profit.

:D That's cute, aint it? :D

A bit of a red herring. Different issue, and has nothing to do with this issue.

That's not material. In reality the "wars" are Constitutional while the school lunches are not. So yes, we can pay for two "needless wars" but not to feed children.

No, to the point, we're paying for NEEDLEES wars. Legality aside, needless was the key word. And paying for them the point. And I don't believe that helping feed children is in anyway unconsititutional. Please prove that.

Once again, this isn't about feeding children. The GOP wanted background checks of cafeteria workers included in the bill, and the Democrats said no, then started pissing and moaning that the Republicans wanted to starve the kids. Since it is the cafeteria workers who serve the food to the kids, including this provision in the bill is most relevant.

This stunt by the Democrats was dishonest as hell from the very start.

I'm not sure what it is about. Yes, there is this call to add background checks, which still seems like a separate issue to me. But many seem to be arguing not to have the bill pass either way. So, some consistency would be nice. And do keep in mind, when discussing the Bill with people here who say we should not feed children, then we are talking about feeding children. :coffeepap

If we had spent less on turtle tunnels, cocaine habits in monkies, reparations and deer under-passes, spending this money on school lunches for welfare kids and unemployment extensions wouldn't be that big-a-deal.

You can't piss money away on bull****, then turn around and demand more deficit spending, because, "it's for the children". Your side shoulda thought about that while they were authorizing money for the study of Alaskan grandparents.

it really is a simple question, Boo, when will it be enough? just how much should we subsidize the standard of living for "the poor"

That doesn't speak to the silliness. you're asking a separate question. But as for an answer, I don't know. Perhaps when the need is gone? Hard to say. But it is not evil to use government as a tool to tackle our problems. What I see is that those who spout the silliness seen in Grants post too often miss the point. We still have plenty og wealthy people in this country. No one is being pulled from the rolls of the wealthy. Our tax rates for the wealthy are no where near as high as they've been in the past, so the whining over doing small things is so exaggerated as to be pathetic.

Then argue not to do those things. Won't see any complaint from me. But we're not in a position where we can't help kids who need the help.

Wait a minute...How is comparing the military even relevant to life as a civilian child in the public school system? Oh, it's NOT! The only reason for this non post is to attack and stiffle your opponent. The entire post has NOTHING to do with the subject and is an Allensky style attack.

GAWD you libs are getting so easy to read.

Back to my view on this subject: If the conservative and liberal parents ALIKE didn't decide on their own that the health of their children wasn't very important to them then we wouldn't even be HAVING this debate.

Obesity and poor health conditions that are related to it are NOT partisan issues - nor do these issues give a damn whether or not you're in the military or if you're 10 and in elementary school - rich or poor, black or white.

You can't take an issue that's not bound BY politics and turn it into a political-partisan topic. It doesn't work that way.

If it wouldn't affect everyone's taxes, health-expenses and other such interests nationwide, now and in the future, I wouldn't CARE what other people feed their kids.

But it does - so I do.

Lord, I can't wait to live in the liberal wet dream. Where the govt tells me what to eat, what to drink, who to marry, what not to smoke, where I can live, what % of my paycheck I can keep, etc, etc, etc. Then I can be a good little drone and go about my daily life in mindless bliss.

Bad choice of words there son.

who to marry

Well guess what, you're not allowed to marry Bob, Government already does that.

what not to smoke

Well guess what, you can't smoke weed, Government already does that.

what % of my paycheck I can keep, etc, etc, etc.

Must be awful to have Roads, Firemen, Police, A helmet, body armour, a uniform, and a barracks in Iraq?

Then I can be a good little drone and go about my daily life in mindless bliss.

Partisanship at its best partner, keep up the good work :)

So you can't deny, due to conservative policy the government already tells you who you can marry, and what you can smoke :)

seems to me, the democrats were in charge when most of those restrictions were put into place. sorry, you lose...again

Excuse the intrusion on the liberal dream...but..what do you mean "paycheck"??? You mean someone actually has to PAY for those services the crippled dependent pdets demand?

So you can't deny, due to conservative policy the government already tells you who you can marry, and what you can smoke :)

Not who. What. No...you cant yet marry your dog. No. You cant yet marry your sister. No. You still cant marry more than one person. But...you know...dare to dream...

And the strawman appears.

I was talking about Jim Marrying Bob but clearly your argument sticks
