Pentagon: Letting openly gay troops serve won't hurt military

Not all but some will. Others will have to tell about their love life. Others will say and do nothing to bring attention to them. I am not worried about all but some. I have a gay family member but she keeps it to herself

Some heterosexuals feel they have to tell about their love life too. Both should be handled the same way. If someone is offended, then they should be told to stop. If they don't stop, they should be brought up on charges of sexual harassment. The rules already exist to handle this now.

Not hide does not mean flaunt. Not hide means to not have to hide. I don't hide my weight problems. I do not flaunt them.

Their will be those that flaunt it. Some will still hide it. Why is it so important for the world to know they are gay. I for one don't care and don't want to hear about it

back during the last administration those who were "very liberal" would balk at taking anything the pentagon stated as truth... I find the turnabout, humorous, if not ironic. ;)

Well there is also "very conservative" people doing the same thing now ;)

Besides I was 15 in 05, and actually thought I would be a conservative when I started to vote, then I started paying attention to things

Not to the same extent...... yet. the right tends to side with the pentagon far more than the left.... usually.

Like drinking? :2razz:

No they are forcing us to accept their life style and be seen as normal. Adopting, marriage DADT is all part of it

No, that is asking to be treated the same. No one says you have to like them, only that the law is the same for every one.

You are getting even further from addressing the simple question I asked. Let me try again. Is being allowed to marry the person of their choice a special privilege? Is being allowed to serve their country like any one else a special privilege? Is being allowed to own property, enter into a lease, hold a job like any one else a special privilege?

No one was stopped from marrying or serving in the military. I can show you many churches that marry gays without a license

If you truly don't care, then why do you want to force LGBT Americans to hide it? And trust me, LGBT people are just as boring as straight people, and are just as likely to flaunt their sexuality as straight people.

The difference in this case is "the right" asked for the DoD to do a review, and now that they did, don't like the answer given.

Those who actively flaunt it and are in your face over their sexuality will not have long or successful careers in the military. They will also most likely be rare.

But those go without the over 10k federal benefits from marrying. If I call a turd a rose, it still stinks.

Unlike marrying someone of the opposite sex, it is against military rules to marry or attempt to marry someone of the same sex. That is wrong. Since I am allowed, and even encouraged, to marry the guy I love, then a gay guy should most certainly be allowed to marry a guy he loves. And, eventually, after DOMA finally goes down, they should get the same benefits that I now enjoy as a wife of a sailor and formerly as having a husband while I was on active duty.

You have never been to one of my mother's parties...

They are normal, to me and many others. You and some others are the ones who don't see them as normal. Normality is relative. I was somewhat normal within the group of those I worked with in the military, nukes. I, like many other nukes, however, were far from normal in the eyes of many, many other sailors. Nukes are generally geeks and nerds.

They are not demanding that someone accepts their lifestyle. They are demanding that they be treated fairly. You don't have to accept that a guy likes other guys, but if you're in the military, you should certainly be expected to tolerate it. The military makes people who don't accept guys who date fat chicks or girls who date outside their race accept such relationships as allowed by the military. It doesn't matter how many people don't consider such relationships as normal.

You have your opinion I have mine. I believe gays will not rest till they feel their lifestyle is accepted by society as normal.

So you have never attended a military function with a girlfriend/wife? You have not told the military that you are married, if you are? You have never once mentioned a girlfriend/wife to any other person you worked with? You can do these things in the military you know. It is acceptable if you are heterosexual.

No my wife left me when I was in the military

Legally accepted. They cannot if they wanted to make every one feel they are normal.

Part of being in the military is having a built in support group. When some one goes through something like that, they have people to talk to and friends to share with who are close. Unless you are gay of course, in which case you can't mention it...

As they should be. They are not being treated fairly in either situation.

Still doesn't show them asking for special treatment.

They want to say sexual orientation is a civil rights issue I say it is not. Gay is not normal and has cosequences you know that from the beginning they are trying to change that and be accepted as normal. They have not been denied marriage or military service

I didn't marry when I was in. Too hard on the wife, plus it would have intefered with my tail chasing.

I don't reccomend anyone in the military who deploys to marry. Save it for later.

So the solution to that is to not let LGBT soldiers serve openly? The majority of the soldiers do not care, and there are already rules in place to prevent any fraternization problems that may occur.

Rules are broken that is gays got kicked out they had to tell
