I think we should repeal the ban with the stipulation that gives all personnel in every branch, the option to resign from the military if they don't agree with the new policy.

And I don't have a problem with that. There will always be people that don't accept them. That's fine, as long as those that can't accept them are not violating the rights of homosexuals. It is just like race, religion, or gender. There will always be people who will have their prejudices against people in these groups. As long as they don't try to violate the rights of those they don't like, they are completely entitled to their opinion.

Yeah, that is kind of the point of life. Everyone is seeking to be recognized and to feel like they belong. It's a large part of why people join religions. Of course, nobody can force anyone to accept them.

This would be a horrible policy. I guarantee that you would have some people getting out just because they could. Many of those would care less about the policy.

If someone is uncomfortable with a change in military policy that allows gays to serve openly that makes them not want to serve anymore, then they can either wait til their time is up and just not reenlist.

No one joined the military with a quarantee that policies would never change. And no one has joined the military in this day and age without knowing DADT was in place, and that they very well may have to serve with a gay person.

No, they should just suck it up and get used to it. There's a certain sense of justice in the idea of making the bigots and homophobes in the military suffer their discomfort in silence while they finish out their service.
