Let's not be coy. Sure there have been some RINO's adding to the problem over the years, but the problem is 90% Dem created and then:

    1. When a Republican spends... it's never enough. When he raises taxes, it's never enough (for a recent trip down memory lane, do you remember Bush 41?).

    2. Dems never want to cut anything; instead they use cutting failure as a baton to smash the right. In the real world failure is allowed to go under. With you folks it requires more time and more of our money, making the problem deeper and bigger. And now we are at the tipping point.

    3. There is a perverse system in DC where the programs are to be increased beyond inflation every year, and if the program isn't funded to that level THEY CLAIM IT'S A CUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And out come the batons, with the journOlists carrying their water.

It makes a certain level of deceit and disconnect to believe the R's are equally culpable in the mess created. This is why it was great the R's didn't vote for the ObamaKare fiasco... because 10% participation makes us equal partners in your eyes.

It is your Eurosocialist platform that has created the economic and regulatory HIV we have to cure. It's yours. You own it.

I really do believe that liberals want to help the poor and especially minorities. However, it seems, every time they try to help, they only make things worse. Why anyone would ever think forcing banks to make bad loans, would be good for anyone, is beyond comprehension.
It'll take time, but hopefully the Republicans and newly elected tea party backed candidates can turn things around. Sadly, I don't think they'll get much cooperation from the Dems because most are way too far left. Our president will fight them every step too, but it will be to his detriment. 2012 isn't that far away and we have plenty to do in the mean time to lay the foundation for when the republicans are in control again.

I agree, that is where many have their heads at, but the political class is more sinister. They obviously see the destruction wrought, but are in denial or need to keep selling the lies to keep power. Think of what would happen to the Dem party if they stopped? They'd have about as many seats as a Corvette.
However, it seems, every time they try to help, they only make things worse.
Yep. The worst words anyone can hear is "I"m from the government and am here to "help" you. Look at the ghettos they created, of course they didn't start that way, and they did so with huge fanfare. Not just in America, but throughout Europe too. Just one example with awful consequences.

Why anyone would ever think forcing banks to make bad loans, would be good for anyone, is beyond comprehension.
Voodoo economics. They knew and admitted some loans would go awash, but never saw it as the cards at the bottom of the house of cards... they thought it's be a few near the top that could be picked off without budging the house. Now we know they are at the foundation... of the problem and are bringing the house down.

They can try, try and try... setting the stage for and setting up Obama for a huge fal in 2012.

    oh yes he will,
but it will be to his detriment.
    That's the idea.

They've got a solid foundation, have the re-bar in place, now we need to secure it and pay attention to ensure they pour a substantial layer of concrete in the right place. Sorry to say, we can't trust them to accomplish this without our watchful eyes. The structure is too important and so badly in need of a new foundation, a restoring of our founding foundation to be complacent.

I believe they know they are going to be watched. I do trust most of them to do the right thing this time. I'm also really excited about all the new ones. People who haven't been corrupted by power. However, I think that there are still some who don't "get it" yet, but will hopefully get it eventually.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how things play out in the coming year. The last two have been disastrous.

A new record low by Zimmer.. changing the subject in his own OP ...

As for the OP .. the two Germans are only stating the obvious. Does not mean it will happen, not even remotely. The European debt crisis is more hype than fact and run by speculators and "fear" .. someone is making a ton of money off this.. trust me.

ROTFLOL... It wasn't a change of subjects, it was drawing a parallel.

Again, another socialist focuses on trivialities but misses the big picture in an attempt to score a point.

You scored alright, a goal in your own net.

Hype? Really? Is that you speaking Zapatero?

The fact Greece, Ireland have tanked means nothing? Italy is a financial powerhouse? Portugal and Spain have their houses in order? And Germany is the whore you go to for a fix for all this? You're wearing her out.

But I like it nonetheless, for the Germans and the gift from Bismark is coming back to haunt them. Now they are starting to sober up and realize socialism isn't fun and doesn't work when it's your wealth. Stealing from the wealthy to pay for those who didn't take care of their own damn house. Must be bitter.

It'd be damn hilarious if it weren't so serious.

Debt crisis escalates in Europe; fears grow about Spain

Yet unlike in Portugal, where fears center on the country's ability to rein in runaway public spending, the crux of concern in Spain is that nation's huge banking sector.

Like Ireland, which asked for an emergency bailout last Sunday, Spain is suffering from a real estate bust - and uncertainty about just how much that has damaged its banks' balance sheets. Any full-blown financial crisis would require massive new funds from the cash-strapped government to shore up the banks.

Though the financial system in Spain is still considered relatively sound, the shocking swiftness of the deterioration in Dublin's situation - with snowballing bad loans and a run on the banks in recent weeks - has spooked investors about a replay in Madrid.

"What caught investors by surprise in Ireland was the speed with which pressures built up in the Irish banking sector,"

Stress Tests Missed Debt at EU Lenders - WSJ.com
An examination of the banks' disclosures indicates that some banks didn't provide as comprehensive a picture of their government-debt holdings as regulators claimed. Some banks excluded certain bonds, and many reduced the sums to account for "short" positions they held—facts that neither regulators nor most banks disclosed when the test results were published in late July.

Because of the limited nature of most banks' disclosures, it is impossible to gauge the number of banks that excluded portions of their sovereign portfolios from their disclosures, or the overall effect of that practice.
As for making money, of course someone is making money. Buffett's maxim is an excellent one; be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful. This bust is going to make some people extremely wealthy.

When money is tight and prices are low, that's the time to stock the shelves.

No you were being hyper partisan and this thread should be moved elsewhere since it is against BN rules.

Again, another socialist focuses on trivialities but misses the big picture in an attempt to score a point.
And yet another American "conservative" thinking the word socialist can be put on anyone that they disagree with. I am no socialist that is for sure.

You scored alright, a goal in your own net.
No you did by taking an European story and making it into a hyper-partisan attack on the Obama administration for something your own people had a huge portion of blame for.

Hype? Really? Is that you speaking Zapatero?
No it is based on facts and not wishful thinking from anti-Europeans like you. You do know that Spain (just as an example) has a less of s deficit than the US and much lower debt right? That the Spanish deficit is falling while the US is rising?

The fact Greece, Ireland have tanked means nothing?
Greece tanked yes because of many things, including using US owned financial institutions to hide debt and the lied about it.

Ireland did not per say. The Irish had their deficit going down and everything under control until their conservative politicians decided to guarantee all debt in all Irish banks. That the private owned Irish banks had expanded like crazy over the last decade with no one from the conservative Irish government even blinking an eye (much like the Icelandic issue btw) drove the Irish into the pit they are in now. The end result is that the left wing parties will gain power very soon.. ironic no?

    Italy is a financial powerhouse?
One of the biggest economies in the world yes. It is not far off being bigger than the UK economy. The Italian economy has never been the big problem, it has been the political instability in the country... but you should know that since you are such an expert.

Portugal and Spain have their houses in order?
Define it.. something you anti-Europeans seem to never do.

Spain's "house" is in order and getting better. For some reason the markets are focusing on Spanish banks, when most of the debt in the Spanish housing boom was built up by non Spaniards... go figure. Most Spaniards were priced out of the market long ago. And those banks that were in trouble (far far far far far less than American banks btw) were dealt with early. The Spanish economy was also in surplus before the crisis.. but I guess that fact is beyond your comprehension. Yes Spain has 20% unemployment, but that figure is always a figure you have to take with a grain of salt. Even during the boom years the Spanish unemployment numbers barely went under 10%. Not that it is not hurting here, I dont deny that.

As for Portugal's, their banking industry is fine and solid. It is its government's who are the problem and always has been. Be despite that, their debt load last I looked was not much higher than that of the US and Germany.. and their deficit was far lower than that of the US.

And Germany is the whore you go to for a fix for all this? You're wearing her out.
So now you calling Germans for whores?

But I like it nonetheless, for the Germans and the gift from Bismark is coming back to haunt them. Now they are starting to sober up and realize socialism isn't fun and doesn't work when it's your wealth. Stealing from the wealthy to pay for those who didn't take care of their own damn house. Must be bitter.
You seriously need to read up on facts.. I know it is hard for you conservative types. German's have always been fiscal conservative when it comes to governing since the years of hyperinflation. Their biggest fear is inflation and they plan their whole economic policy around it. And such a policy includes not having too much debt.. despite Germany having more debt than say Spain..

It'd be damn hilarious if it weren't so serious.

So, a Rupert Murdoch owned American newspaper suddenly is unbiased in how it reports things? The European stress tests were far more incompasing than the American.. so are you saying your banks are worse off than the Europeans? I would love to know where this rumour first started, since it has spread like wildfire and very few media outlets even remotely taking a critical look at it. First time I heard it was on CNBC USA, when some American mentioned it.. wonder why..........
