DeLay convicted of money laundering charges

Just don't like liberal hypocrites piling on without all the facts. DeLay resigned in 2006 and this case has been ongoing now for almost 8 years. It will be appealed and more than a few attornies claimed that DeLay didn't break any laws. Austin is one of the few bastions of liberalism left in the state. What are you going to do when the verdict is overturned on appeal?

what will you do if the conviction is upheld?

Actually I was just asking. I'm not the one that keeps bringing up names that have nothing to do with this thread.

There are a lot of threads here that many of the same ones complaining about diversion from the thread topic actually participate in doing just that on other threads

Re: Ex-House Leader DeLay Found Guilty in Texas Case

Didn't he also influence the redistricting in Texas that shaped GOP voting majorities?

Now, now, you know better than to bring up something irrelevant in this thread.

what will you do if the conviction is upheld?

I will admit that I was wrong and that he is guilty, but won't do so based upon the testimony that actually was presented. DeLay didn't do anything wrong according to that testimony and he was convicted by a bunch of people just like you, partisan liberals who paid no attention to the testimony.

Re: Texas jury convicts Tom DeLay on money laundering charges

Love how someone from Minneapolis is such an expert on something that happened in TX. Wouldn't be any bias on your part, would there be? Charles Rangel, Maxine Waters, Bob Livingston, Tim Geithner ring a bell? What they did was far worse than anything DeLay did. I live in TX by the way.

Criminals are criminals, I don't care if they are GOP or Dem, RIght or Left, and all should be punished and removed. Our country is f'd up because instead of weighing the action of man, you weight his political beliefs.

This is a local issue and not national in scope. Attornies in Houston claim that the prosecutiion didn't prove their case and thus this will be overturned on appeal. Wouldn't be surprised if a few of the people here weren't sitting on the jury acting on their own biases. Austin is one of the few bastions of liberalism in the state of TX and we saw evidence of that fact tonight. I have no problem convicting DeLay if he truly broke the law but there still is question of that based upon the testimony that was presented. Doubt that many people here know about that testimony since they don't live here and in fact probably didn't even know that a trial was going on.

Seeing as you seem to think of this as a local issue, maybe Tom can serve his time in a local Tx for profit Penn, rather than a fed country club penn.

I can see it now...Tom meet your new cellmate,Bubba,Bubba this is Tom.Bubba says hi Tom, seen you shake your bootie on dancin with the stars.

O.K so now you're complaining about just the thing you are doing yourself. That justifies you doing it. Got it! ;)

Redistricting is a state issue, not a national issue. That is handled by the state govt. not House Members. If you think redistricting was bad then wait until you see the next one with a Republican Governor and 20 more GOP legislators.

I thought there was an open season on liberals in Texas and they are nearly extirpated?

I live 180 miles from Austin, the case was well covered in the Houston media, a city that is hardly Conservative having a Democrat Mayor the last decade or so, so I have a much better idea of what went on in Austin than you have living in Ohio. You really ought to stick with what you know, whatever that is.

Re: Texas jury convicts Tom DeLay on money laundering charges

Geithner avoided paying taxes which impacts the revenue of the govt, Rangel did the same thing, Waters got special taxpayer funds for a bank that her husband was involved with, and Van Jones was a Communist with influence over this President and the policies Obama has implemented shows that influence. Rangel got censured, Geithner is still in his position, let's see what happens to Waters, and Van Jones is now working for Soros.

Yawn… for this useless post.

You give partisanship a bad name.

These petty accusations add up to whole lot of ‘so what!’

Consider, just consider, the sheer magnitude of the consequences of Delay's crimes.

By illegally converting corporate funds into purchased media for select Republican state candidates across Texas, Tom Delay upset the national political map. Yes, it was just Texas state races, but, the consequences were far more dramatic than that after the 2000 census. Then the state legislature controlled the fate of dozens of popular Texas Democratic representatives to the U.S. Congress who were struct down and that state's delegation turned absurdly ‘red’ per Delay's evil design. The whole plan was solely that: destroy the Democratic party in Texas. It was ‘Murder, He Wrote.’

The whole of Texas is a crime scene and Tom Delay's hands are covered in blood. Let him rot!

The stars are a little brighter over the lone star tonight because of this man.Heres to ya Ronnie.

<Ronald Dale "Ronnie" Earle (born February 23, 1942) was, until January 2009, the District Attorney for Travis County, Texas. He became nationally known for filing charges against House majority leader Tom DeLay in September 2005 for conspiring to violate Texas' election law and/or to launder money.>

Coming from someone from San Francisco, I don't really have much respect for your opinions on a case you know nothing about.

I have made my rebuttal, you don't know what you are talking about, don't have a clue as to what the testimony was and I believe this verdict will be reversed. If not, I will admit that I was wrong, something that you have never been able to do on any other thread.

By the way, DeLay has been out of office for 4 years and we had an election on Nov. 2 when 20 more Republican Legislators were elected and Perry won in a landslide. Had nothing to do with redistricting as all were individual races. How did DeLay affect those races?

recent election is not the topic of this thread...there are other threads on that...stay on topic, which is delay.

Explain to me how DeLay affected the Nov. 2, 2010 elections when 20 more GOP Legislators were elected and Rick Perry won in a landslide?

I suggest you read Chappy's post about redistricting then you wouldn't be making a further fool of yourself. DeLay had no affect on the 2008 or 2010 elections.
