North Korea reportedly fires at South

Don't underestimate your own Special Forces. My dad who was in Special Forces during the Vietnam era was familar with some of them. He said they were very, very, tough cookies. No one to mess with. I can't recall for sure but I believe he said something about them skewering VC heads on fence posts as a warning. Or maybe that was the Chinese that were on our side.
ROKs were the most feared soldiers in vietnam

Debate Politics: UPDATE
N. Korea: Peninsula being pushed to 'brink of war'

YEONPYEONG ISLAND, South Korea — North Korea said Friday that planned U.S.-South Korean military drills are pushing the peninsula to the "brink of war" as a U.S. military commander headed to an island devastated by North Korean artillery to show solidarity with ally Seoul.

North Korea's state news agency said drills this weekend involving South Korean forces and a U.S. nuclear powered supercarrier in waters south of a skirmish Tuesday between the rival Koreas are a reckless plan by "trigger-happy elements" and that the maneuvers target the North.

Alas here is the latest......

This thing seems to NOT be going away. :(

I hate to say it, but none of this is within our control, if North Korea make a serious move, I'll be the first one to stand up, and go over to defend South Korea.

But I think the more attention we give Pyongyang, the more brazen they will get. They're looking for a crisis. After all, if he dies, it's much easier to enable his son to be "leader" during a crisis. People need something to look up to.

None of this makes any sense at all.

There's no logic in the North Koreans move here.

They're even alienating China, just makes no sense.

There's some people on crack in Pyongyang mother****ers.

Yeah, right. China SAYS they are annoyed. However, they have said this several times and yet China is sending more to the DPRK than it ever has and has repeatedly given it cover in the UNSC. China isn't annoyed by this at all... they welcome this. Anyone who believes otherwise doesn't know the agenda of the People's Republic

Actually, if "Dear Leader" dies now, this could even more rapidly spin out of control. The military has no respect for his son at all... The military, rather than the Kim clique, could be pushing this testing how much they can get away with within the DPRK system... This is a VERY dangerous situation...

I "hate to say it" but this is as close as we have come to a conflict since the 50's. There have been skirmishes and causualties but no artillery fired on the ROK since the active war. The upcoming manuvers which involve U.S. ships could trigger something. Things could get very interesting. No one wants to back down. All ingredidents for a serious incident to say the least.

Agreed. They are probably sending weapons to NK as we speak. In a way this may be a test of our resolve or response for future reference. It would be a great diversion for our Navy while they take Taiwan. Or just a way to get us spread even thinner than we are.

wth is wrong with NK? i think this calls for serious action.

I think at this point it is time that we come to the side of our incredible personal, political, and economical ally South Korea. The time for talk right now has passed. The time for action is at hand and I believe that ramping up our armed forces in the Pacific surrounding North Korea would be in the best interest of our allies in Asia.

Yeah, it's not like they could wipe our troops out in just a few nuclear blasts or nothing. When are you people going to get it? Once these nations gain nuclear capabilities, they are free to do as they please and there's nothing even the U.S. can do about it.

Your dad was a GB or a ranger?

Anyways I doubt the capability of NK's special forces. They are too big in number.

You are welcome to set your emotions aside and actually introduce the grand practical solution to dealing with an irrational nuclear nation that is fond of launching missiles into its neighbors land and seas. Every think tank in Washington has been without solution for the last 15 years, but maybe you have the magic wand. South Korea and Japan have been tormented by North Korean bullying. You think its cowardice that the U.S. and the UN has focused solely on writing strongly worded letters of condemnation with China ignoring it? You think China has the magic wand? What's your solution?

Oh, and before you vomit some rediculous scheme, keep in mind that we fought an entire nuclear Cold War with the rational Soviet Union and not once did either side engage against each other. Do you know why? Because nuclear bombs have a way of obliterating militaries. So let's hear it. Besides a Army dog's desire to create more "Custer's Last Stands," "Mai Lais," or "Abu Ghraibs," what is your solution?

Special Forces, Green Beret.

We have more than we used to also. Back when my dad made the cut hardly anyone made it.

A despot for a leader that controls his country with fear and propaganda, and a paranoid backward nation still living in the 50's. At to that a lack of food to feeds it's population comfortably, and a willingness to use violence and threats to get what it wants, and you have all the ingredients for aggressive unpredictable behavior with it's neighbors.

i think this calls for serious action.

It will come to that. I'm still trying to determine if it will be a sudden flare up with a show of force by both sides which will quickly stop after a week or so, or it will go all out and last for months and finally lance the boil that is Kim Jong Il and his band of thugs. Either way there will be significant loss of life in the north and hopefully Seoul will not take heavy damage.

With the technology and command of the skies available now on our side, I don't see it lasting as long as the last
conflict, as long as China does not get involved with troops on the ground. I may be naive but I don't think they will commit troops. No doubt they will try and supply NK with more weapons but if the strategic planning is right on our side it will be too late.

What I would love to see is a boycott of Chinese goods in this country if China tries to get involved. It's about time this country started making it's own goods and putting it's people back to work on jobs that have so far are gone forever.

Wait wait wait.....we've been down this road with liberals before. The last time we passed a resolution involving "serious consequences" against Saddam, you didn't support a war. So what is "serious action" to you liberals this time? Inquiring minds want to know.

Ok Inquiring minds, more than likely we will conduct military exercises with the South and Secretary of State Hillary most likely is on the horn with China as we speak. The end results will more than likely be the same as the last time...we will feed them.

Now lets here your take on it....to the liberals that you say "we've been down this road with liberals before "to. Oh, by the way, show where this thorn in Americas a** has been only a liberal problem. :2wave:

Quit trying to create strawmen don. I asked her what "serious consequences" meant since the last time liberals used that phrase they didn't really mean anything SERIOUS, just more cheap talk. So I wanted to get clarification. Does she mean a full invasion of NK? Ousting KJI? A military buildup in the area? Strategic strikes against NK's nuclear capability?

I was asking her, not you. But thanks for playing.
