Obama's Democrats in disarray over expiring tax cuts

It means the US healthcare is some of the best in the world

We may have some of the best doctors and facilities in the world, but it does not mean we have the best healthcare. In fact, we are #37 on your WHO listening dial.

The World Health Organization's ranking of the world's health systems

I don't think we will make the playoffs. Time to fire the coach.

The problem is the system does not work for the average citizen. Jetboogie's graphic well illustrates the problem: we have the most expensive healthcare system in the world and it produces mediocre results.

no - that is the narrow issue that you and libertarian right wing conservatives wish to prop up in your scheme to deprive tens of millions of people from voting in elections. You turtle, despite your pretend wealth, despite you proclaimed fortune, despite your boast of piles of cash in your mansion, you do not get to decide the issue. You do not get to take all the various taxes in this land and narrow it down to one and forget about the impact of paying all the others. No matter how hard you may try, no matter what the cato institute may say and no matter what right wing net pundits say. You do not get to decide that issue.

oh the drama!

yeah we wonder why so many rich Asians and Europeans come over here to get treated.

You take the word of the UN they have no credibility on any subject.

Again, having great healthcare for the elite does not translate into having a great healthcare system. As a matter of illustration, Mexico and Saudi Arabia have some of the richest people in the world.... do I use that as an argument for the strength of their economic system?

For the average American, its a poor system.... #37 per the World Health Organization, yet the most expensive in the world. I thought the private sector was more efficient than government --- better product at a lower cost? Apparently not in healthcare.

The US data on this is so egregiously out in right field (very, very high expense vis-a-vis the peer group) for very mediocre results, its embarrassingly indefensible.

The World Health Organization is a reasonalby credible organization, but feel free to offer up some 3rd party that contradicts this assertion, if you can. Until you can, then I take 3 points for making my point.

It is the UN that is not credible on any subject. The UN is a useless organization as is any organization they fund and run

World Health Organization

The World Health Organization (WHO) is the public health arm of United Nations, responsible for monitoring and responded to disease outbreaks, and other public health issues, around the world

Nice way to avoid calling Obama a liar a true tactic of an apologist

Call whatever you will, but we can call all politicians liars, and we accept that. But let's not pretend all lies are equal. And I notice you never addressed what I actually said. ;)

I am really torn on Afghanistan these days....I'd love to agree with you liblady, largely because I don't think that 'nation building' is what anyone signed up for. And I also know that ending our involvement in that country would save us billions of dollars that we could sorely use here considering the pace at which demo, and repub progressives are burning through it. But there is a 'face' argument to be made is there not? "Cutting and running" would invite further attack, and project weakness would it not?

nation building is exactly what bush signed us up for on day one. Odd that it is now a problem for you. Really, that's strange. :coffeepap

Nonsense. Spouting UN rankings that unfairly rank the health systems around the world according to whom has the most socialized medicine, and throwing in homicides for the US as an indicator is hardly what I would consider objective.

WHY... do people insist on touting the UN rankings, when they are a freaking decade old, and the UN doesn;t even bother anymore?!?!?!!!
The World Health Organization's ranking of the world's health systems was last produced in 2000, and the WHO no longer produces such a ranking table, because of the complexity of the task.

Makes it easier to ignore when you write thigns off that way. :coffeepap

Not writing off. The UN does things like oil for food scam with Saddam and their workers rape innocent women. The UN tells lies and manipulates data to promote Global Warming. There is much corruption and biased attitudes in the UN.

This organization is not credible and a useless bunch of political hacks

Not much for the better has changed in the decade. But the meaning of the numbers do speak to what we value, what we define as better. if access to adequate care is the standard, and for me it is, than we don't fair all that well.

So, anyone who does something wrong, like say the US government allowing Saddam to suggle oil, loses all ceredibility and can't be trusted, . . . is that what you're saying?

I did any UN linked organization is not believable and has no credibility. Just like UNICEF is supposed to help kids yet it promotes abortion

The US was not involved in the oil for food scam

Did you hit the right quote? If not, read above and try again.

No, they were involved in the smuggling. We turned a blind eye even though we knew. So, I ask again: So, anyone who does something wrong, like say the US government allowing Saddam to suggle oil, loses all ceredibility and can't be trusted, . . . is that what you're saying?

Who is turned away in America from any ER?

j-mac

Might as well be cause they're gonna have a heart attack when they get their bill...

No doubt, and as humorous side I can have chuckle at what you post here, but that wasn't the standard now was it? Boo said that there are those in America denied access. I want to know who.

Frankly, they can be if it isn't an emergency, and if they aren't and can't pay, we pay one way or another. And believe it or not, many people really don't go because they know they can't pay for it. You should spend some time in a free clinic if you can find one. My very conservative sister did in the Chicago area recently. She was shocked. If you do, I promise it will be an education.

Not true. No one gets turned away unless it is determined that they are just looking for a warm bed for the night, which happens.

I know several doctors, and the liability is just too high to turn people away, even if someone comes in with a bad bruise.

Had a good doctor once who admitted people in Montana for being tired and hungery. He was a good doc. But he could have turned them away. But, we're talking about the law here and no doctor fears. No one has to see anyone that isn't an emeregncy.
