Re: House GOP blocks bill to extend jobless benefits

This is going to make Republicans look pretty bad, but not deservedly so. True, in light of the Bush bailout of the banksters, it looks like the GOP is for Wall Street and against Main Street, but that is all on the surface. Many Republicans were genuinely pissed at Bush's bailout, and this is all I personally ask for. While benefits are being cut for those on the bottom rung, benefits must also be cut for those at the top. That would, IMHO, be fair. We must find a way to reduce the deficit, and some ways to cut it are going to be painful. The only way to make it fair is to spread the pain, making sure that those at the top also suffer. Without that, then the Liberals' accusation of "class warfare" is absolutely true.

I will, at this time, take a wait and see attitude, but at this point, I am not against cutting out unemployment extensions. After all, something is seriously wrong if someone cannot find a job in 6 months. It might not be the job he wants, but damn it, it's a job, and it's a tough economy right now, so just take what is available.

Finally, one more note - In this economy, employers who hire illegal aliens over jobless American citizens need to be thrown in jail. Period.

Yes, I think a lot of people will be surprised, my question remains why do Obama supporters want to penalize only the rich people? Sounds like they are just parroting ignorance. The projected tax revenue that would come in from those tax increases would be a drop in the bucket in the overall scope of things.

    Harshaw,

When did the last round of unemployment benefits expire?

I already said I was using Conservative's logic. Clinton still wasn't a socialist.

The rates have been posted before.

I asked what the effective rates were

so what was the overall tax rate on the top 1% under Ike, Tricky DIck and next year under Obama (assuming his tax schemes are implemented)

Tell us why you support raising the rates on anyone at this time and under these economic conditions? Why does it matter what the rates were during other times during history? Any idea what the exemptions were during those times thus the actual rates paid?

Of the few, for the few and by the few is the M O of the Repubican Elite. Neither wants real change because there is to much to gain from dividing the country and making everyone angery at each other.
