    Really?
so, everyone who has been wronged should get their own revenge?

I bet you still hold a grudge against someone from your past to this day. And "if you ever saw that person again you would let them have it"! Right? Now dont tell me that you have never said the exact same thing before because if you do then you would be lying. This man had the opportunity to "have them have it" and did. How is that any different from what you have said you would like to do to someone from your past?

What is so sad and pathetic is that there are so many of you here that would come to the defense of a rapist of children. Disgusting.

If I was the guy who got raped, I'd have done the same damned thing.

Not only that, but I would be willing to go to jail over beating him senseless.

I would look at those consequences as a badge of honor for doing what I felt was the most moral course of action.

Does that make me a violent savage in some people's eyes? Probably, but I don't care.

Under no circumstances will I defend the pedophile because there is no excuse for his actions, but I also cannot condone the brutality of this revenge attack.

It's hard to face the facts of this case because the statute of limitations has long ago run out, and any chance of legal action are way in the past, but we have to stand for something as Americans or we stand for nothing.

Had a pedophile ever gone after one of my children I would have been tempted to kill the some of a bitch, but we have got to use the laws we have to deal with this type of thing.

In this case there is no legal recourse for the victims and all this guy did was further destroy his life for a few minutes satisfaction.

His getting to call the accused into court to humiliate him will be a hollow victory when he's setting in jail for years.

I understand the urge for revenge but it was wrong.

On the opposite side of the coin, the beating can represent closure for the victim allowing him to heal emotionally. If that healing occurs, he may be able to get out of jail in a couple of years and rebuild a better life.

35 years later and the pedophile has not been brought to justice for his rape

the justice system failed this victim

hopefully, the younger man will insist on a trial whose outcome will be decided by a jury of his peers. and he will walk. the trial testimony should then be used to put the pedophile in prison

only then could we agree that the justice system (finally) worked

No, it makes you someone who accepts responsibility for their actions and is willing to face the consequences of same. There is nothing wrong with that in my book. You could go up one more notch if you were to call the cops and turn yourself in when you were done.

He had the chance to have this man put on trial about 10 years ago, but he settled with the religious organization instead. From the article:

Lynch and his younger brother settled with the Jesuits of the California Province, a Roman Catholic religious order, for $625,000 in 1998 after alleging that Lindner abused them in 1975 during weekend camping trips in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
What Lynch needed more than anything, more than money or a trial, was the closure than comes from confronting his abuser and have him acknowledge and apologize for what he did. Obviously that didn't happened, as the priest claimed to not even remember him. This is what sent him over the edge. It's understandable from a psychological standpoint, but what he did to that old piece of **** is still wrong in the eyes of the law.

Re: Man jailed for beating up his childhood rapist

In 1998, this guy and his brother received a settlement of $625,000. The victim seems to have reported the abuse after the statute of limitations ran. That is very unfortunate, as this guy deserved to be in jail.

The victim has had a lifetime to beat the crap outa' this guy and chose to wait until he was an old man who couldn't defend himself. He should have used some of that settlement money to get himself some serious psychological help.

While I have sympathy for the 7-year-old boy who went through that hell, I have none for the 40-something guy that chose violence.

There is more to this story. I suspect the victim has allowed this episode in his life to ruin it. That's the really sad part.

The real perpetrator in most of these priest abuse cases is the Catholic Church itself.
