Bride burning - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yeah, India can be much better.

Bride-burning is a form of domestic violence practiced in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and other countries located on or around the Indian subcontinent. A category of dowry death, bride-burning occurs when a young woman is murdered by her husband or his family for her family's refusal to pay additional dowry. The wife is typically doused with kerosene, gasoline, or other flammable liquid, and set alight, leading to death by fire.

Virendra Kumar and Sarita Kanth point out that bride burning has been recognized as an important public health problem in India. They say that it is a historical and cultural issue accounting for around 600-750 deaths per year in India alone. In 1995 Time Magazine reported that dowry deaths in India increased from around 400 a year in the early 1980s to around 5,800 a year by the middle of the 1990s. A year later CNN ran a story saying that every year police receive more than 2,500 reports of bride burning.

India undercuts China on cheap labor. They have the same discussions about India "stealing" jobs as we do about China "stealing" ours. Ironic, no?

Hey...at least she is going to get a trial before being convicted and then killed. Most times people just drag them into the fields and behead them.

Absolutely! We can see all sorts of baseless complaints against the United States but Americans can dish out as good, or better, than they get. But criticize Muslim craziness and you've got people wanting to change the subject or they go looking for picayune criticisms of other countries. If any group but Muslims did this there'd be international condemnation. But when Muslims behave in a subhuman manner, and anyone complains, it's called "Muslim bashing".

It will surely get worse before it gets any better, with these attitudes.

Talked to many Muslims lately?

Do you need individually signed statements from 1.4 billion people? Maybe mailed to you, personally, because what YOU think of them is really the important part, right? If they discuss it with the family at dinner, disgusted at the actions of their government, should they send you the video tape or just the audio?

That's a lot of long steps for some of them in the ME. The ones I've met who want to assimilate and become Americans are pretty decent folk.

So Musims are discussing this at the dinner table, are they? And condemning what happened? That might be a guess.

It seems the only videos Muslims are interested in are those that involve Jihad, or the beheading of innocent people. All other videos are heavily censored..

The point is, are you happy to condemn this insanity? I condemn this action as a fellow human being to this poor woman, and those two men who were shot to death a while earlier.

One Muslim on an obscure debate board really isn't all that much. Out of 1.4 billion I'd like to see a broader consensus, but at least one turned up. I think it's safe to say though, that you would never initiate a thread on the subject.

Grant you have said it a a lot of the time along with Tex-master, and Gardner. Seriously you don't see that saying no Muslims will condemn this. is painting them as people who support this? And calling the people who defend the Muslims apolitical.
