School Makes Boy Take American Flag Off Bike

because IT'S not. in the scheme of things, it's mouse ****. sounds to me like the school was trying to protect the boy.

The very fact you and the school think he needs protection is the entire point and why it is so serious.

How in the hell is flying an American flag in America offensive?

It is only my those who are Anti-American and supported by the same, or those who do not belong here and should be deported yesterday, we owe them nothing.

What some don't seem to realize is the more they push their Anti-American agenda the closer they are going to come to getting what so many of the fear the most.

That being a backlash that might one day lead to either a real revolution, which i hope never comes or the widespread deportation of all illegals no exceptions, which is way overdo.

A Nation without laws can not stand for long, and we are headed that way.

Whose outrage is manufactured or are you simply grasping at straws?

This is generic manufactured outrage. You are being played. Sorry to break it to you.

If the school really wanted to protect this kid, then they should have made it very clear to assholes who might do him arm, that such actions wouldn't be tolerated.

I knew someone would go there.

You know what I meant.

Smartass is like a faucet. You twist the handle as much as you can, but some always drips out :D

Actually yeah if they see the American flag as a racist symbol.

Maybe if you had read my posts you'd realise that its not of itself a racist symbol but some peple employ it as one. in which case youd make an enemy of ALOT of people.... funny that.

DENAIR - 13-year-old Cody Alicea rides with an American flag on the back of his bike. He says he does this to be patriotic and to honor veterans, like his own grandfather, Robert. He's had the flag on his bike for two months but Monday, was asked told to take it down. A school official at Denair Middle School told Cody some students had been complaining about the flag and it was no longer allowed on school property. "In this country we're supposed to be free," said Cody. "And I should be able to wave my flag wherever I want to. And they're telling me I can't." Cody's grandfather says the school was concerned about racial tensions or uprisings because of the flag. He feels if there was really a problem it should have been brought up two months ago, not during Veterans week. "No action should be taken. We don't want any repercussion," said Roger. "We just want Cody to be proud of what he's doing."

Racial tension? What kind of crap is that? If the American flag creates racial tension we have a far more serious problem in this country.

I agree with you, but to me, there is also another issue here.

From "The Flag Code" (United States Code, Title 4, Chapter 1):

The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.

The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.

The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.

Want to know what really grinds my ass? Many of the same people who dare to call others anti-American are the very same people who attached flags to the windows of their cars after 911, and drove around, showing the rest of us how patriotic they were, in rain and snow, and other inclement weather, until the flags were ripped from the wind, before they threw the flags in the garbage can, and then bought new flags and did it again, and again. Who is the anti-American here? It certainly is the school, and it certainly is those who disrespect the flag too.

Now I will be the first to agree with you that the school made it's decision for the wrong reason, and they are douche bags for that. But attaching the flag to a bicycle, or car, or any other moving vehicle, must be done with care, and that the Flag Code must be observed at all times.

That says it all. The boy needs to be taught proper care of the flag. You can't put it on your bike for 2 months. It must be put it up and taken down each day, with due diligence, and must be taken down in inclement weather. In Washington DC, where Federal laws apply, what he is doing amounts to a $100 fine per occurrence.

Now I am sure that some of you are going to accuse me of being nit-picky. I assure you that I am not. Our flag represents us. Our flag represents America. Those who don't properly take care of the flag disrespect America.

How exactly am I being played? You already ducked my question about the actual subject of the flag and why this is approperiate to discuss. As you can see many of us actually do care when someone claims the flag is a subject of racial tension.

Then you attack the source of the racist Hispanics who claim the flag itself is a sign of racism.

You assumed those white kids were displaying the flag based on race instead of national pride. It was an unproven and false theory.

He did say he puts it away every night but that could have been in the video.

You apparently missed the part of 'Flag Code' where it states...
Flag Code
The flag should not be displayed on days when the weather is inclement, except when an all-weather flag is displayed.

I bet Obama had a hand in this...

Eh, so, as an Englishman, I find myself wondering, as I can't find the location of "Denair" anywhere, whether this occurred in the States or not.

If it did occur in the US, as I assume, then it's a silly thing -- one should have pride in one's country. Nationalism is a different story entirely, but I see nothing overtly nationalist in having an American flag with you in America.

If this were in Canada, I could understand the school's reaction, and while still a bit overreactive, it would at least make sense -- I wouldn't want some bloke riding around here waving an American flag, as much as the Americans want people waving Union Jacks or Tricolores or the Crimson Banner around their towns.

Overall, I can't say I agree with what the school did, however, in any sense -- unless the boy was (and there's no evidence to support this), riding around waving it in Mexican students' faces, I can't imagine how the school thought it would provoke anyone.

Hell, I have a nephew in the States who regularly wears an ushanka (Russian hat) emblazoned with the Hammer and Sickle on the forehead, and for 9 May Victory Day celebrations brought a Soviet flag to school -- and the school officials respected it as his right.

Why wouldn't they do the same for any other flag?
