You don't make them. This is America, and what parents feed their kids is up to them. You can educate parents about healthy diets for their children, but it is ultimately up to them, not the state, to make the decision on what food their children eat.

Aren't gays more likely to get AIDs? Isn't that costly to our health care system?

I don't think they should be denied the right to have gay sex anymore than I think people should be denied the right to eat what they want.

It's not as epidemic as obesity and a different problem. As far as I'm concerned they should have better sex education that includes homosexuality. That way people wear a damned condom when they do the nasty.

Am guessing most parents do try to oversee their kid's diet habits. With varying degrees of effort and success. That does not translate to need for state to be legislating/overseeing parental behavior.

Do need to draw some lines as to where the nanny state ends....

You know what- people piss me off with their whiny crap.
So the solution is for there to be 'no toy unless you order apple-slices . . .'

You know what - whenever we buy fast food my kids NEVER eat the fries - EVER. My older kids do - but my 6 and 4 year old don't eat *that much food* in a sitting.

So it's a waste of money (point blank - that's part of the reason why I don't often buy said fast-food) . . . so the apples or bananas or whatever would *also* not be eaten :shrug:

I posted another thread some time ago about the stupidity of my kid's school - they give bananas and apples with the lunches for an overall healthy appearance but they only give the kids 20 minutes to eat.
20 minutes is not enough time to eat an apple or a banana.

All that fruit goes uneaten - not even a single bite - and into the trash - no effort to save, no effort to consume. (I encouraged my kids to *keep* the fruit since they weren't eating it but I was paying for it - and the teachers had a FIT when they'd bring it back to class!)

It's just purchasing food to toss it in the trash :shrug: That's ****ing stupid - maybe I should take a bag of my kid's school lunchtime trash, dig out all the uneaten fruit, and box it back up and send it back to these healthy-trumpers and ask for suggestions.

We can educate all we want. However, if they still refuse to wear a condom we have no more right to force them than we have a right to force people to put down the fries.
Until fries and toys are illegal, McDonalds should have the right to market both products.
It seems they should be able to sue for something.

But don't conservatives oppose legalization of marijuana and gay marriage? It just seems that conservatives use the "liberty" term only when it applies to things they want to do. Without getting into some partisan bickering match, can you please explain to me what's the difference between mandating government "nanny state" laws that prevent people smoking marijuana because they feel it has bad effects on society and mandating government laws on fast food because some people feel it has bad effects on society.

Wait, I take that back, I had read through the forums and confused you with someone else. You actually supported prop 19. Most conservatives however don't, and I don't understand why. Wouldn't anti-marijuana legislation be an example of government telling people what to do and how to think? If an old man, who contributes to society and pays his taxes wants to light up a joint on occasion in the privacy of his own home, wouldn't that be restricting his freedom and liberty, aka "anti-american" to have the government interfere in his personal life and tell him he can't do that?

I believe marriage is between one man and one woman. However I am all for civil unions being treated the same as a marriage. Also, if states want to legalize by voting gay marriage they should be allowed to. Same with legalizing marijuana. I felt it was wrong for the federal government to say they were not going to recognize the Ca. law if legalization was passed.

While I disagree with the law, tyranny is something our founding fathers and people fought a war over for eight years at the cost of hundreds of thousands of lives.
