I wouldn't read too much into 2012 polls yet. There's still two years to go. Even a strong Republican candidate will lose if the economy is doing well, and even a weak Republican candidate could win if the economy is still bad.
As for the RELATIVE strength of the Republican candidates...I would say that Chris Christie is probably the strongest candidate. Mitt Romney could be strong too, if he runs on his strengths instead of trying to be something he's not, which I think was his mistake in 2008. Mike Huckabee could probably do well. He comes across as being plain-spoken without being an idiot.
The weakest candidates are probably Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich.
Are you coming to bed?
I can't. This is important.

Obama calls for compromise, won't budge on tax cuts - TheHill.com
now that obama had his obnoxious ass handed to him, everyone's wondering whether he will emulate the great clinton, triangulate and move to the center
those who speculate so reveal very little awarness of obstinate obama, the man
first, he doesn't even understand what's happening to him, he's completely out of touch, tone deaf and doesn't get it
but even if he did he is characteristically incapable of changing course, it's his dna, he is hardwired to do no other than what he's done so far
that is, cram health care over the expressed and anxious opinions of the citizens, sue the people of arizona for finally taking action in a field that is at bottom HIS responsibility, try to move ksm to manhattan, back the building of a mosque at ground zero even tho it profoundly offends the sensibilities of the overwhelming majority of NEW YORKERS
this is a man, keep in mind, who once told us all to rat out our neighbors for expressing fishy thoughts, essentially told americans who disagree with him to shutup, questions repeatedly the perspicacity of the electorate who recalcitrantly refuse to see things his way, insults us all by suggesting that we don't like his leviathan moby dick because it hasn't been presented properly to all the knuckle draggers and neanderthals...

A Palin nomination would be great for Democrats and political humorists. Gingrich has way too much baggage. Huckabee is pretty extreme.
But, it is most likely that the GOP candidate will be none of the above anyway.
Can't we just turn Congress off and then turn it back on again?
