34 warships sent from US for Obama visit

j-mac said:
I wonder what the cost of this apology tour will cost the American people?

What "apology tour," and since when are conservatives interested in the cost of military operations?

Yes, that's exactly what I said

How is NOT wanting my job shipped to India 'clining to the past'? They need MY job in order to grow & progress?

I'm not talking about you specifically I'm talking about the nation as a whole, I'm talking about the economy and the country as a whole. Ask yourself, do we want to be doing jobs which can be done in a 2nd/3rd world country for a fraction of the cost, while we demand so much more for the same work? That makes no sense, its no way to be competitive world wide.

Also its not "Your" job. You do not own your job, and you have no right to have job. You have a right to pursue employment, and the government should do whatever it can do to set the stage to create job openings and opportunities for its people. However, that job belongs to your employer, and its up to them to say it exists or it doesn't exist and its up to them to say who they want to put in that job.

Its clinging to the past because its clinging to a job and an economy as a whole which is too focused towards economic activity which is no longer as productive and valuable as it used to be. AND more importantly clinging onto those types of economic activities cannot sustain the type of economic growth we as Americans demand and require to maintain an acceptable level of living standard, employment, and economic growth.

What puzzles me is if there is such a big security threat that they need all these warships and firepower. Who is the idiot who released the information that he'd be flying in a helicopter to where he's going?

... because the 34 warships have little to do with Obama being there.

Dispute over New Black Panthers case causes deep divisions

just wait til issa and lamar smith, our new judiciairy chair, get into this one

the watergate wunderkinds at wapo have already laid a full FOUNDATION

in FIVE fun filled pages

read em, i dare ya

Is this the one where he continued Bush's policy of not prosecuting them and then took the heat? We've got threads on it. I dare ya.
Guilty of standing around and being scary rlly. The guy with the cane was prosecuted on some minor charge though.

This thread shows us who is willing to believe anything that is bad about Obama, no matter how insane.

ah, you didn't read the article, i'm so disappointed

in january of 09 the bush doj filed action against the defendants for violations of the voting rights act

a default judgement was entered in april when the accused failed to appear

in may obama's doj very oddly dismissed all proceedings

This story is just a sad testament to how blatantly dishonest the media has gotten. It goes both way I know. But seeing Fox News peddle this rubbish is just sad. It was an outright lie with no evidence to support it. They reported it because it had "been reported in the press." Huh?

perhaps since it wasnt nearly as big a deal as outing a US agent then sweeping it under the rug, they just figured it was ok to let it go..

And once again, the partisan media machine strikes again.

Pffffttttt... truth smooth.

Just go with the lie, scream it with a loud and outraged voice, and see your followers believe you without flinching! And the best part is when the truth comes out, it will not matter because the damage is already done. I can bet you that for years, many will go on thinking that Obama spent outrageous amounts of money on trips... millions more than any other President! It's sad, but it's the drawback of this age of disinformation.

This is why I absolutely despise the far leaning (left or right) opinionated "entertainers". They can say what ever they want, fact or not, and their followers will believe them. The listeners are just being "entertained" afterall.

I have to wonder where the thread starter heard this story from? I'm assuming they aren't a daily reader at the New Delhi Television website.

Some pundits are now saying the "34 warships" is just another rightwing propaganda effort and those claims are not true at all. One called it laughable.

I have been looking around on Google and I can't find any credible source that can confirm that or deny it. Anybody got anything other than a NewsMax or FauxNews type website they could point me to? Something with some facts? I know that the propaganda sites work for those folks who wanna believe this about that "Muslim" black guy the socialists elected president but I have been cursed a skeptic. I should have been born in the "Show-Me" state. I need a little more.

Enquiring minds want to know.

It was all over Fox News until the Pentagon said "ummm that's absurd."

Try this one Captain: Pentagon Dismisses Reports of 34 Warships for Obama Trip Security - Political Punch

“I will take the liberty this time of dismissing as absolutely absurd this notion that somehow we were deploying 10 percent of the Navy -- some 34 ships and an aircraft carrier -- in support of the president's trip to Asia,” said Morrell at today’s Pentagon briefing. “That's just comical. Nothing close to that is being done."

...

There are 288 ships in the Navy’s fleet, currently 147 of them are away from their home port and at sea. 110 of the 147 are deployed on missions, the other 37 are involved in training. Those numbers translate to 51 percent of the total fleet being at sea right now and 38 percent of the fleet being deployed.

Using the number of 34 warships being reported by Indian media outlets, 34 ships out of 288 would mean 11.8 percent of the fleet would supposedly be working Obama security.

Edit: Spud, stop being faster than me.

Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig surprise  republican wingnuts just LOOOOOOVE feeding lies and breeding hate. For "Christians" they sure dont mind causing evil.

I shoulda figured as much. Some folks don't seem to have any qualms posting lies and distortions in order to feel validated. What are they putting in their Kool-Aid these days? If it were me, I would feel pretty embarassed, time and time again, making myself out to be some kind of a gullible idiot for all the forum to see.

Yessir. I will remain a skeptic. Those who fall for anything with stand for anything. (Or, something like that. :3oops:) Weebles wobble but they don't fall down. They just keep on posting more of that wingnut B.S.

LOL!

read WAPO and repeat that

and, like i said, wait til judiciary and oversight start QUOTING the wonks

but let's return to the topic, obnoxious obama's overseas excursion:

Obama Faces Chillier Reception Abroad - WSJ.com

Two years ago in London, Mr. Obama and his economic team were greeted at the G-20 summit as something akin to rock stars. At the G-20 in Seoul next week, "they're not going to have a lot of allies," said Alan Auerbach, an economist at the University of California, Berkeley, who has close ties to the White House.

On some economic issues, the trip will play out as Mr. Obama against the world, with the U.S. president as one of the last adherents to Keynesian economic policies, which promote the use of deficit spending and tax cuts to spur economic growth.

of course, this is what it's all about, big happenings thursday:

Fed to Buy $600 Billion of Treasurys - WSJ.com

U.S. dollar printing is huge risk -China c.bank adviser | Reuters

CNBC: Dollar At Risk Of Crashing, Triggering Inflation

FT.com / Americas / Economy & Trade - Brazil ready to retaliate for US move in

CNBC: Germany Concerned About US Stimulus Moves

My Way News - Fed bond move spurs backlash from Asia to Europe

just more copy for you NOT to read, feel free to comment

of course you can ALWAYS count on me to scrutinize every word for you, and i'll be sure to keep you informed

are wsj, ap, reuters, cnbc and the financial times of london ok by you?

Assuming Cooper is correct, then this is a non-issue. If there's any other developments I'll be back.

The issue is that so many conservative pundits were willing to pick up this outrageous story and run with it without checking their facts.

Since this outrageous report has been debunked, I wounder if those pundits will admit their mistake or just leave it out there and hope that their listeners/viewers don't hear the truth.

No way. They will make up another bull**** propaganda piece and their followers wont even remember this (especially the part about it being false.) Or maybe not. Face it. Those people who support these propagandists don't care if it's truth or lies. As long as it makes their ears feel good hearing, keep shoveling in.

BTW, $5,000,000 is 200,600,000 INR (rupes). The source of the comment was an unnamed Indian official. For him to quote the cost in dollars is unlikely. He may have said 200,000,000 per day and the listener assumed it was dollars and not rupes. If this is the cost, it is lower than most Presidential trips in the last 10 years.

THANK YOU ANDERSON COOPER

Video - Breaking News Videos from CNN.com

This really is pathetic. Has no one heard of fact checking?

To hyperpartisans, whatever source reinforces their beliefs is true. Facts are irrelevant.

And anyone who has a functioning brain should be able to figure out that the $200 million is actually in Rupees. Which in conversion is about the same cost per day as other presidents' foreign trips.

Funny you woke up when a Democrat was president. You must have a really ****ty alarm. That's what? 8 years sleeping? That's almost a decade. I guess saying you were asleep is better than admitting you are a partisan hack.

Yet what is your excuse? Sleep walking?
