Proposition 19 to legalize marijuana defeated....

I'm glad prop 19 failed. Weed should be kept illegal and enforcement of its illegal status should not be taken so laxly.

Pot is defeated by old people that don't understand it that think you howl at the moon and need poison control if you come in contact with it--again. Obama hypocritically takes the same stance the Bush administration had on it. It's ok, within our lifetime pot will be legalized, (tax money which will be used to fund what remains of needed border patrol obviously) and pot, like other silly things that were issues a few decades ago like womens rights and everyones right to vote will just be another freedom.

The stoners lose again, even in California..........Eat your heart out Disney Dude:)

Proposition 19 to legalize marijuana defeated | abc7.com

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- One of the most controversial measures on Tuesday's ballot is Proposition 19, the initiative to legalize, regulate and tax marijuana in California. It was sure to be challenged, even if voters approved it. Some lawmakers had already been preparing to tax cannabis sales. The measure was defeated Tuesday night.

The Associated Press called the measure defeated at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Are you delusional Navy? Or are you just infatuated by me.....I never even commented on Prop 19....LOL.....

Well... its good to see you support big government. Welcome to the left. Dormitories are on the right. Koo-Laid stash is in the back. Don't forget to carry your 'We Hate America' manual wherever you go.

Navy has always been a pro huge government Republican....

Was in 3rd Battalion 325th... which no longer exists anymore. Got out in August 2005.

Was a "Blue" Falcon (lol).

Remember the 4th? Telling you my age, but I was a proud member back in 84-87 when I was doing time in Italy. I was sadden when they disbanded us. I ended my career in the 2nd.

Well that sucks for Cali. A lot of money could have been made off the stuff. Plus with Berkley right there.

I cannot believe anyone who tokes wants the gov't imposing taxes on weed. Good Heavens, they've made cigarettes cost more than gold with all the taxes. The go'vt would make sure all the good stuff gets taken out of pot. While this seems like a defeat, consider it a victory for what it didn;t cost you.

I would take those cost's over the cost's of imprisoning non violent drug offenders.
Also since I don't smoke it now, but probably would if it was legal, these wouldn't be an extra cost to me. Plus people I know who do smoke, would probably take that cost, over having to deal with drug dealers.

To quote a friend of mine who is living in California, "Who cares, you can get a medical card so easily it's a joke. So basically it's legal if you pay $150. "

The main problem with any of the de-criminalization laws is even though they're enacted by the states is the Feds will still send their own thugs to break down people's doors.

Exactly. Pot will unfortunately have to be legalized on a Federal level before any progress can really be made. Either that, or they will just have to stop stomping on individual state rights.

On top of that, even if Prop 19 passes, it's still federally illegal and the law falls the second it get's challenged by the federal government as federal law trumps state law.
I don't think this instance is exactly like that. The two laws aren't in conflict. The federal law would still stand. But there would be no additional criminal penalties at the state level. There's no obligation for states to have laws that are redundant with federal laws.
One couldn't use the federal laws to force CA to enact a law that criminalized marijuana. However, Californians could still be prosecuted under federal law--just not under state law.

The city where I live did what Scotland Yard ended up doing, making a work-around to the marijuana laws. Scotland Yard and my city both made it a matter of policy that marijuana crimes would be given the least priority behind all other crimes. So if they catch you committing another crime and you have some pot on you, you'll be charged with it. If they see you smoking some pot, they may look the other way if they have something else to do.
Scotland Yard's argument was that they just had better things to do with their resources.

California would end up spending more money that it doesn't have trying to defend the law during the challenge in federal court, etc, etc, etc. While the feds would put a hold on enacting said law for the challenge to go forward, meaning the bill would end up costing the state money without ever making it any money.
AmIRite?
On what grounds? What is the case that CA has to have redundant laws with the federal laws? Is there a federal law that describes what punishments states have to mete out for pot?

I was pleased with how this initiative went. Fact is 46% of the people who voted yesterday vote for Legalization, that's a pretty damn high number and should be sending elected officials a strong message. It will find it's way onto the ballot again in 2012 and it will be a better run campaign and it will probably pass on the second go around. I didn't expect the polls to be this close after seeing the exit polls. Conservatives and people over 60 were really against this proposition. Speaking of which, why are conservatives, in general, against Marijuana legalization? Is it not a conservative issue, why do they want government telling the people what they can put into their bodies?

Stoners are losers. Losers don't vote. Is it really a surprise this was defeated?

It doesn't matter anyway. Don't you pay a $5 fine for getting caught with it anyway in California? What's the point.

What an effed up state. LOL

Sadly, this sums up the basic argument many supporters of prohbiition have. How they are winning this debate is beyond me sometimes.

Stoners are losers.

True stoners are losers.

But am I truly a loser because I take a hit sometimes, watch family guy, eat some cookies and go to bed? Admittedly I've had my fair share of the Mairy Jaine, yet can still form a coherant sentence, still have a job which I am damned good at, go to the gym and get woman. Hoorah!

When you're paying $15 for a watered down joint, you won't be saying that. :naughty

Well, carry on, then.

I mean, what is there to life more than that?
