Referring to the young woman cited in the article for challenging Obama's bi-partisan platform.

It's not just Obama that young people have a problem with, but the whole system. My generation, generation X, can see things more clearly than the baby boomer generation. I can't wait for all these old farts to die off along with their draconian way of doing things so that some fresh blood can take the reigns. I don't think much will change economically but at least we could have hope for some social advancement.

I think you're totally missing what going on here, since you still think that mot young folks are Liberals.

No, not really. Look at the way social laws have changed in the past 50 years. The changes are have been gradual but sweeping, to the point that conservatives of today are defending the laws that the conservatives of yesterday detested.

The aristocracy still hands off its financial power to the next generation in a fairly direct way, but socially speaking there has been a linear evolution of social rights and that isn't going to stop anytime soon.

Generation X basically refers to people born in the post-modern era. They have had better access to education and ideas than the previous generations and so they tend to be better informed... we are also the most openly diverse.

You'r also the members of the past couple of generations that think that if a government entitlement pays more than an honest job, you're going to quit the job and collect the entitlement. i.e. you don't contribute **** to the system.

No, I'm part of the generation that has to work and still put money into social security even though I am never going to see that money ever again; I'm the generation that will have to take care of the elderly who are also being given money from the same bottomless pitt that I paid into. My generation has to inherit all of the baby boomer generation's failing systems, environmental calamity, and an economy that is falling apart, all because your generation had short term vision.

My parent's generation had it easy. They had cheap college, bountiful job opportunities around every corner that didn't ask for outrageous credentials, social security and even job security, an economy that was strong and short term enough just to give them all the cheap consumer crap they wanted. Our entire system of today was their doing.

So yeah, don't whine at me about how easy Generation X has it. I am paying 200% more than your generation did just to get the same education, all the while dealing with a housing bubble, high living costs, and minimum wage jobs that don't even make ends meet anymore. I have debt up to my eyeballs and my life hasn't even started yet, all because I don't want to work 10 ****ty jobs just to be able to afford things that your generation pissed away into the wind.

I'm only 41, so it's not, "my generation". How old are you?

What world do you live in? Seriously!

I'm not saying you have it easy. I am saying that you want it easy and that just ain't how things are in real life. Please, don't act like your nuevo-Liberal agenda is going to bail the rest of us out, because that same Liberal agenda is what got us here.

LOL... yeah, keep pretending that you know what I "want", or that I've done so little work. I have shared some aspects of my life on DP but you don't know the half of it. You are just labeling me as "liberal" and then projecting your delusional opinions about liberals onto me. I have stated time and time again my position on social entitlements, it's not my fault that you are blinded by your own hypocrisy and failure to read to notice them.

Life isn't easy. Life is damn hard. I am not asking for a free ride, and if you'd be paying attention, you know that I am the furthest thing away from a free ride right now.

What a pompous, ignorant prick you are.

I'm a pompous ignorant prick?

Now, there's a retort!...:rofl

I've yet to see you criticize entitlements. I think you're more interested in trying to shed your Liberal stand, than anything else, because you know--as we all do--that Liberalism is falling apart. It's embarrasing to be a Libbo now-a-days.

I have avoided your posts for a long time because you stink of partisan hackery and are incapable of maintaining a linear train of thought pertaining to any rational discussion; but you know, I thought I would give you a chance just this once and throw you a bone to see if you could show some promise. You failed the test, completely and utterly; not only that, you have managed to complete alienate me from ever caring about anything you have to say again. Congrats and welcome to my ignore, pissant.

Piss-ant? What could possibly next?

A young Republican woman from Austin, Texas, in the audience, kicked things off, saying she had "very much respected" his pledge in his 2008 campaign for more bipartisanship but "to be frank, when all was said and done, I don't think that actually happened." A young man from Mississippi thought Obama was too soft on illegal immigration.

And this is when an adult not running for office should have said, "Oh, how young you are, son."

Just a little bit condescending - No wonder We can't get along. If only Gore Vidal could have gottenm to be President.

How many times has this or that side touted their younger supporters, only to discover that they turn out to be less likely to vote?

Until they figure out that the world does not magically change, they become frustrated by that reality and turn to their own lives or community service.

And this is when an adult not running for office should have said, "Oh, how young you are, son."

So, who would be the adult, not running for office, here?

If the audience had someone older, it would be nice. Kind of like a father figure, to tell the young lad that the world often doesn't work that way.

I'm absolutely repeating myself, as it seems you're a bit slow on the uptake.
I agree, as a person, especially in the political spectrum, I am a speck. As are you.
I however have a problem with your arrogance and hyper-partisanship to the point where you avidly disagree with someone making basically the same point.
You seem to think that these individuals do matter in the grand scheme of things, simply because they agree with what you believe. I come along and say I agree that government should be questioned, but because I happen to fall on the other side of the spectrum (actually much closer to center than your extreme right) I "don't matter"
Why do you not in kind say "few care about these students?"
The only difference is that they have voiced there concerns in an an area where media happens to be present.

Be careful, your hypocrisy is showing...

Young people are asking hard questions, thinking critically, and criticizing the president on real issues!

Yahoo! There is hope for this nation after all!

It is pathetic that these children can not see the truth of the matters at hand. The important issues aren't if there are homosexuals in our military, or Mexicans in our country "stealing our jobs and houses",
THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY BUILT ON IMMIGRANTS.

The answers to those problems are simple, many "non-issues" tend to pop up around election time, when the real issue is that our economy was doomed long before Obama got into office.
The majority of the bills that democrats have tried to pass, have been turned down 100% by the PARTY OF "NO" (republicans) who HAVE NOT even presented any alternative options.

The fact is, Republicans drove America to the brink of destruction and bankrupt our country by going to war with an innocent country. (9 years later and naught has been resolved)

getting out of this ditch was never claimed to be an easy task, and of course it will take some time, but handing the "keys" back over to republicans would be foolish indeed.

I think it more pathetic that partisan rhetoric is clouding an already cloudy method of assessment of government performance.

I was tired enough of hearing Obama using this god awful analogy. Now, we have to listen to his sycophants using it? Ugh.

Are you for real? Come back when you have a clue, please.

Tim-

I believe that's the last thing that Obama wanted, was an older person in the audience. Then, not only would he have a kid asking embarrasing questions, he would have had an adult asking embarrasing questions.

Thank the heavens for that "party of no" that you so cluelessly refer to.

Democrats are doing everything humanly possible to turn a deficit hole into a deficit Grand Canyon. Republicans are in the fetal position, cornered by true conservatives who are demanding that they act like what they claim to be, or else.

We're seeing the end of the Democrat and Republican parties as we know them. Pissed off conservatives are taking over the Republican party. Who knows what will be left of the now-socialist driven Democrats after the fallout.

Im glad that other nations that have suffered the evils of socialism are stepping forward to support your battle against your own evil government.
Oh wait, they actually know what socialism is and they think you're insane.
